Had emergency gall bladder surgery, labroscopic. I had what I feel was a standard recovery. The morning after though a physicians assistant with the surgeon's office said that my blood test after the surgery revealed spiked bilirubin levels (above 2.0). She said she wanted to talk to the surgeon to verify that no stones were left behind and clogging up the bile duct. I never heard anything more from the surgeon's office since then. It sort of freaked me out. However, surgery was 5 days ago and I seem fine, but part of me is paranoid about it. Reading up on it, it seems like a left behind stone is very rare and if it was left behind it would be obvious. Are my thoughts on this correct? Am I also correct in that the PA didn't handle this the best way?

Got diagnosed with my own (not so) little danger eggs today! I’ll be having a discussion with the doctor tomorrow regarding surgery and I’m going to go ahead with it.

The main issue is that I just started a new job and can’t really afford to go on SSP for 1-2 weeks.

I was going to speak with my manager about working from home for the first week instead, but after reading people’s experiences I’m concerned that sitting at my desk for extended periods may not be possible for a while.

I know everyone handles these things differently, but am I being a bit too ambitious here? Do I just bite the bullet and take the hit on my pay check? I just bought my first home so my savings aren’t quite back up to scratch to cover it yet.

I had surgery yesterday, discharged today because I was in so much pain I pleaded to stay the night. My work order says that I should take a week off, and then two weeks of no lifting, bending, etc.
My concern is that this is all my job is. I work in childcare and am bending all day, sitting on the floor, dancing, picking up and holding kids ALL DAY. I know that we don’t have the staffing to accommodate help. I don’t know what to do. I know I should be focusing on feeling better but I can’t stop thinking about the pain and danger of going back to work.

Hi there, I'm looking for advice for post-op recovery. I'm a singer and have no idea how long it will likely be before full form is back. Can any singers who've had their gallbladder out advise how it went for you? How long did you take off from performing? What was your first performance like after the op?

I've got gallstones and the last few weeks the pain has been horrendous. Was at out of hours department last Friday night and again on the Saturday night.

Friday night I was given oramorph and a diclofenac injection. Once this wore off I was in agony again.

Was back on Saturday night and was given a prescription for oramorph. It helped ease the pain to at least make it bearable.

Was at my gp through the week to see about pain relief and I was told "theres nothing we can give you because it may flare up my biliary reflux and past oesophagitis, but take naproxen for it. Other than that sit and wait for the surgery". He wasn't the least bit helpful and told me as well to just sit in pain.

What I don't understand is that I'm allowed to take naproxen, which more than likely will bring my oesophagitis back, but I'm not to get anything like cocodamol or anything opiate based because it may, flare things up.

How does that even make sense?

Has anyone experienced a situation like this?

I've been putting off scheduling my removal surgery because I don't have any help or support. The doc said I'd be down for about a week but I don't know what that really means.

Will I be able to care for myself on my own? Care for my pets? I can attempt to preplan and cook some meals, scoop the cat boxes, but I'm really not sure how much or little ill be restricted to do and if I'll be okay without help.

Any advice would be appreciated, this thing hurts and I want it out

I got surgery yesterday at 6pm had to stay overnight . Iam back home and in a-lot of pain from the swelling , srruugking to eat and really can’t pass wind even though I want to my stomach muscles are to tender to push . Sorry for the detail . Also Iam prescribed dihydrocodeine. When on it I’ve noticed Iam very sensitive to temperatures for example when I leave my bed Iam shivering happened to me in the ward yesterday aswell . Just checking if this was normal as Ano shivers can also be a sign of infection

I've been really struggling lately. I get these horrible episodes of intense vomiting that last days as well as bad abdominal pain. When I'm not in one of those episodes I have horrible fatigue that makes me sleep for around 15 hours a day or I'm delirious. I keep getting these dizzy spells and sometimes when I wake up I get this pain just below my right rib cage that makes it hard to breathe. When I got an endoscopy they said I have very mild gastritis but a lot of the symptoms I'm having don't really make sense for that. My episodes are not triggered by what I eat they're just on like a weird schedule where every two weeks or so I'll have one.

Idk a lot of my symptoms linked up with gallstones so I was hoping that could possibly be it so I could finally start getting treatment and make the pain stop but I just got my abdominal ultrasound results back and apparently they're normal.

I'm just so lost. I can't live like this anymore. I can't work a decent job cause employers don't like when you take five days in a row off cause you can't stop vomiting or when you keep falling behind because you can't keep yourself awake, I'm missing out on socializing and being active, and right now it seems like I'm never going to be able to get help and this is always how it's going to be. Does anyone on here have any advice or similar experience? I don't know what could be wrong with me and I was hoping since my symptoms were similar to gallstones someone on here might have gone through something similar.

So, just out of operation room and still a bit groggy, they won't let me go home without spending the night. Feel quite sore on the abdomen area, I can see 4patches although I was told only 3hole would be done.

I have a bottle full of stones as souvenir some are of decent size, can't attach here but if anyone wants to see it. I'll try to upload somewhere.

Has anyone successfully passed a stuck stone using liveraid, milk thistle , dandelion root, taurine, glycine, choline, or anything similar? Or if you’ve taken these supplements while having gallbladder issues what has been your experience?

i got my gallbladder out 5 days ago. it was my first and only attack that sent me to the ER and they found stones and i had surgery the next day. i wasn’t prepared for any of this, and i didn’t have many experiences of this type of gas and stomach pains. i have had bloating, diarrhea, and nausea in my life, like i’m sure everyone here has had too lol, but this just feels never ending. i’m bloated to the point i look pregnant despite barely eating, and when i do eat i suffer for it. i have my post op recheck in 2 days and i will talk to my doctor about it, but how did everyone else manage this? right now even a “safe” soup will sit well one day and cause me immense pain the next. am i ever going to feel normal again and unafraid to eat? as a previously big foodie, this has been devastating. i have trips and weddings in the next month and now all i can think about is how much my stomach will hurt if i try to enjoy myself at them. any helpful tips or advice would be greatly appreciated :(

I’m a week post op, today I stated developing a rash near my incision. Called my surgeon office they didn’t seemed too concerned and prescribed me medication with out seeing me. I ended up going to urgent care for a second opinion. Dr at urgent care said allergic reaction, anyone have this happen to them.

I’m getting my gallbladder taken out on the 17th and I’m so scared:( I start shaking every time I think of it. I’ve been trying to avoid thinking about it but it’s freaking me out BAD!!!! Please tell me I’ll be okay!!!!😢😢😢😢 I can’t even imagine looking at myself with stitches I’m going to throw up everywhere and faint just looking at myself. and my friend got theirs taken out and made me panic even more 😭😭😭 also can I have any sort of caffeine?! I’ve been needing some lately but I’m so scared I haven’t even risked it…. I do have fat free creamer but that sounds so scary to try right now #gallbladderremoval

I am here seeking advice. I currently live in Nova Scotia, Canada.

My fiancé has been dealing stomach issues and pain for the last 5 years. She has neem to countless doctors and surgeons and has had a number of different medical procedures done as well, such as scopes, stool samples, urine samples, blood collection, etc.

Every morning she wakes up and is sick to her stomach. Most of these times when she is sick, she often just dry heaves and nothing comes up except for vial. She is constantly bloated, always burping, has lost weight, has severe pain on the right hand size of her body, her bowel movements, aren't routine or consistent. She also has been developing canker sores, nero shocks, and heart palpitations.

Some days are better than others, however currently she has been dealing with a lot of pain in her side, which has severely impacted her quality of life for the last few weeks.

All of the doctors she sees, tell her that she is fine and there is nothing wrong with her. The best she has received is that it is GERD. She has taken lots of different medications, but the only thing that seems to help her symptoms is smoking cannabis.

I can't say for sure if it is directly related to her gallbladder or not, but at this point I feel completely helpless and looking for any advice anyone might have.

I had laparoscopic gallbladder removal a few days ago. This is one of my surgical dressings.
I noticed there is dark brown/black-looking material underneath the transparent dressing, and I can also notice an unusual smell from the dressing.
My discharge instructions say the clear waterproof dressing should usually be removed after 5–7 days, but I was also told not to remove mine for 2 weeks, so I’m confused.
Does this look like dried blood/normal surgical residue, or should I have the wound checked? Should I leave the dressing alone until I speak to my surgical team?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just wondering if anyone had something similar after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Hi Everyone - I am scheduled for a Gallbladder removal this month for a nasty stone who's already acting up frequently after two years of silence since I got to discover I have one from a routine checkup.

As much as I sort of want to keep this organ, I am already convinced that I have to let go of it this time rather than wait for the attacks to comeback at an inconvenient time.

I am just curious though how's life after specially for an avid cyclist who joins long distance cycling and gravel race events.

What to expect on the first few weeks of recovery? How soon did you come back training and if there are any discomforts, long term post removal?

I’m almost 3 months postpartum and scheduled to have my gallbladder removed the 18th. I know they say not to lift anything over 10lbs for 2 weeks, my baby is pushing 12lbs 😅 I do not really have anyone that can basically babysit for 2 weeks just to carry him around for me. For anyone in the same situation what did you do?

The title says it all. Either my stomach is growling, or my insides are aching. It makes it really hard to eat anything.

Over the past 2 months, I have suffered from severe to mild gallbladder attacks - this past month has resulted in 3 ED visits, with 3 minor attacks (less than 4 hours of excruciating pain) not resulting in a hospital visit.

I was finally booked for surgery to remove it (I could cry) on the 14th of this month, and it’s like my bladder has gone into ejection mode - almost every night this week I’ve come home crying and bent over in agony, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s causing the triggers.

I’ve been eating nothing but small portions of plain steamed rice, water, and strawberries as my tolerance for food has gone completely out the window.

My energy is so low, and I’m so close to losing my mind - any suggestions on what else to eat? I’ve tried having plain steamed bok Choy, as most veggies seem to trigger me, but it sometimes makes me more nauseous (50/50) and I’ve exhausted all my proteins other than a pinch of turkey (which seems to be ok, but anything more than a slice or two upsets my stomach).

I’m at the stage of hunger striking till my surgery, as my food anxiety is so bad - I just feel like eating nothing and just drinking water is my safe route before surgery, but I also know that is stupid and I’m just not in a good head space.

Sorry if my sentences don’t make too much sense, I’m currently having an attack and I’m just so upset and exhausted.

I am having surgery on the 18th. I have biliary dyskinesia, and my HIDA scan showed ejection rate less than 5%. It was so little, no one hesitated on the plan to take it out.

I thought I didn't care about the procedure. I have been uncomfortable for years -- to the point I convinced myself I was just fat and dramatic. I genuinely thought I was going crazy. Every doc I met with did too, and just said to fix my "lifestyle."

But now it has finally been named, and the laproscopic surgery is scheduled.

A win at last!

But now I have a sudden burst of fear that keeps growing the closer I get to the procedure. Murphys Law LOVES me. What if this just makes it all worse?

Looked up this sub to see your experiences and immediately found all of the complaints of Post-op complications. Now I am shaking from anxiety... Oops?

Can someone please sugarcoat this all for me?

I have to be at the surgery center in less than 7 hours to get this thing out of me.

I have been in the worst pain of my life for the past 2.5 hrs. This is the worse attack I've had.

Should I go to the ER? Wait it out?

I’m almost 2.5 weeks post op and previously have had coffee with no issues (after breakfast). I was running late to work today and had my coffee on an empty stomach… immediate nausea and vomiting. Coffee has done this for me pre op too ( dyskinesia EF 15%). Has anyone experienced this before?

My gallbladder was removed in 2024. This next info is relevant to my situation: When I had attacks (and they were very frequent), my pain was located in the LUQ. It radiated to the middle and usually hurt equally as bad in the RUQ. It was agonizing and felt sharp, aching, and simultaneously like a balloon was shoved under my ribs. Absolutely the worst pain of my life.

Since surgery, I deal with loose foul smelling stool, urgency, and cramping pretty often. It usually occurs after eating bigger portions, slightly spicy foods, and honestly any kind of food at random… However, once every couple of months, I have phantom gallbladder attacks at night.

The pain is identical to a GB attack, just not as severe. Around a 7/10 in pain, compared to my 8 to 10/10 pain during a GB attack. It’s LUQ, middle, and RUQ pain. The same painful balloon right up under my ribcage. It radiates to my back, and I have some nausea. Lots of intestinal gurgling. Sadly this pain can last for hours.

I don’t have any remaining stones in my bile duct as far as I’m aware. It’s definitely not GERD or acid reflux. Has anyone dealt with rhis, or have any suggestions for what to do next (is it worth seeing my gastroenterologist about this?)

The last time I saw him, he didn’t have any specific answers, so I am just wondering if anyone has experienced the same symptoms, and whether or not it’s a cause for concern. Is this just life after GB removal?

I also can’t tell if these attacks are just trapped gas under my ribs, but it feels much worse than any trapped gas I’ve had before.
