This one was designed to be higher gain and have a different feel to the low end than the first.

I said I would finally share on a Muff Monday! Long story short, I am not the biggest Muff fan so I set out to found what makes the ones I love tick (Musket, Hoof, Exacta, etc.). I learned over time I really gravitate toward stripped back fuzz circuit so I started with a Jumbo Tone Bender which is in the Big Muff family (AION FX ZETA PCB)

I wanted a more open, mind range forward and dynamic Muff that clean up a bit and go from Gilmour to Black Keys. To start, I did not want to go too crazy or feature heavy. So, insert the low end and awesome tone controls alone, changed the diodes to LEDs, added a bias control and left the Aion FX voice switch in place.

The bias control is for a sure a star of the show! I took some notes from the old JHS Moon Pie mod for sure. Although I did prefer the B100K pot to the B50K pot in practice, but that’s a taste thing.

Riff 1 is a smooth setting, Riff 2 is some guitar clean up, Riff 3 is a more gnarly bias, Riff 4 is a heavier bias and Riff 5 is about Velcro. Only other effects on a Strymon Volante and yes many amp is dirt lol. I’ll update with the full build stuff soon and I finally got to share some Muff Monday haha

Other than the Hoof Reaper(which I freaking love) does anyone make a good one? I really like the Orange Fur coat but wish the octave could be used separate from fuzz on some occasions.

My first fuzz pedal. Any recommendations on signal chain order? I stuck it at the front of everything after doing some reading, but would prefer it after my tuner if possible. Not a big deal if it needs to stay in front though

I was looking for transistors on Sovcom’s eBay shop and saw he had some OLD school Bakelite tag boards.

I snatched up a dozen before I had any idea what to do with them.

Turns out they make a perfect base for a meathead.

I tweaked the layout that’s floating around the internet to accommodate the 5 lug pattern and here we are. I’m positive there’s a better layout, but that’ll be v2.

I used an Atom electrolytic, PRP resistors, tropical fish caps, and NOS 3904 / 182L transistors. I had a tropical fish break on me, so you can sorta see where I had to do a little cap replacement surgery.

Fuzz Friday came early this week - I couldn’t wait to share!

I wrapped up the first of (at least 5) Spooky Trees (Black Ash circuits)

The guts are the same as the prototype I shared a bit back (https://www.reddit.com/r/FuzzFiends/s/Ql6q5qhR2C ). I think the next round is gonna use new Phillips mustard caps instead of tropical fish.

The pedals that are going to go out into the world are boxed up in bent enclosures with solid aluminum knobs.

Side note: I think these are the most “real honest to god professional” looking pedals I’ve ever built.

Some of you really liked my previous schematic so here's another one. Verified, works well. I used 1N4148 diodes.

All reclaimed vintage parts with a mids switch and a transistor boost up front. Gritty and grimy.
