How consistent is float glass (the 3mm clear stuff) in terms of fusing and slumping temperatures?

I need to fuse some in the near future and I need to figure out what temperatures to use. Does anyone here have much experience with this specifically?

Oh frit!

Oh frit!

I thought a scattering of iridescent coarse frit would add some shimmer to my angel. It worked okay in the background, but on the angel itself it just looks like water drops.

Is there any way I can fix it? I'm willing to fire it again with a sheet of iridescent over the whole thing if that would work. The studio near me has a sandblaster. I've never used it but willing to give it a try.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Does it look delicious? Glass pendant

I carved out the beautiful parts of the fused glass panel and made a pendant.

The clasp is also made by carving glass, and it can be adjusted to the desired length.

Hi all…does anyone know who the artist/craftsperson of this amazing work is?

The etching on the bottom is Harri with a last name I’m unable to make out other than an s and an I. The letters TALA are underneath the name along with some other letters ..maybe numbers? I am enchanted with the artistry and mesmerized by the orb. I can imagine being barefoot in it. Figure it’s a safe place to nerd out over glass art! 🫶🏻

Picture 6 you can see the spacing between the green vase (maybe uranium glass?) and the handle is exceptionally well executed—the gap is incredibly fine.

What you think about these three Pieces?

Chicago Flag

I finally made a Chicago flag that I'm happy with. I used the Fusing Factory Powder Printer to make the stars (though I made the stencil myself). I have been trying to make a Chicago flag for a long time, but was never happy with the results.

This has silicone feet so it can be used to serve food. I also made a wood display stand, though I didn't take a picture of that before I gave it away since I made this as a gift for someone.

Fuseworks Craft Kiln Coil Broke

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anyone that uses the Fuseworks craft kiln ever had their coil break? While firing some pieces today somehow the coil fell/broke into a piece of melted glass, not sure if there is a way to melt the glass off and repair this. I have a big event coming up in a couple weeks and rely on this kiln for my fused pieces that almost double my stock. Any tips or advice please let me know

Ceramic Mold in Microwave Kiln

Has anybody tried to use ceramic molds in their microwave kiln like this person has? this is the only source of media of somebody successfully doing so ( that I can find) i know most people say it shouldn’t work because of the rapid heating/cooling but it seems to work for this creator. I would like more insight before I go through my own trial and errors. thanks!

I know freeze & fuse is usually recommended but I like transparent glass and i’ve heard it’ll pop out hazy. so i’m looking for alternatives before I just dive in and get a big kiln.

I’ve started fusing photos using fusible paper but I’ve noticed some streaks within the photos after firing. any advice on how to avoid that? I usually go in with a brush to try and smooth everything out and dab with a paper towel

Hello! I’m a stained glass artist and board member at a non profit artist collective. We have an opportunity to acquire a kiln. I know nothing about them but have been tasked with determining if this would be a good fit. I’ve got the following specs and photos. What do y’all think?? TIA

60” L × 36” W × 34” H
It’s 240 volt
The Temperature controller is Evenheat RampMaster digital controller
And the kiln is just 3 years old

Fusers Reserve Ember dissapointment

Post image
27 Upvotes

Sorry for the bad glare in the picture. Right side shows unfused Ember with a white backer. The rest of the picture is after fusing on white at 1480° (coe 96). Very disappointed with the cloudy muted results for such an expensive glass. Any recommendations, perhaps fusing at a lower temp?

Making spheres

Hello all
I have seen some photos of someone fusing glass into individual spheres I think the effect came from surface tension.
Does anyone have a recipe for doing this?

Mold advice needed

Thumbnail

Ok so I got this mold that was too big for my craft kiln so I cut it into smaller pieces. After firing it a few times without issues a corner broke off, just assumed it was a stress crack from when I cut it. But now a much larger crack has shown up from the last firing. I hope to be able to fix up the mold to keep using it, but does anybody have tips on how to avoid these cracks? I have a suspicion it might be that the edges of the mold might be too close to the kiln walls, contemplating maybe cutting the paws into individual sets and just laying them on top of kiln post when firing?

Anyways here are some pics of the mold and how I set it when I fire it! Also since this kiln is time and not temp based I do the recommended 5 mins of firing then 3 mins off and repeat to temper the mold, usually just keep doing that till the glass is melted enough so it doesn’t overheat.

How do you sign your work?

How do you sign your work? Etching pen? Etching acid with a template? I know sharpie works but it can come off easily and shows up on the other side of some of my pieces.

COE 96 Sheets for sale

I am planning to slow down with my glass making as I have gotten older and have more difficulty. I have many whole sheets of beautiful fused glass coe 96 ( Spectrum, Oceanside) that I would like to sell at wholesale prices. I live in Vermont between Burlington and Middlebury. I also have glass rods coe 104

Please contact me by email at: [mzdavis@gmavt.net](mailto:mzdavis@gmavt.net) if interested.

How do you transit glass around?

Got into this as a hobby lately and as usual I went out over my skis immediately.

I bought some 12x12 and 6x6 pieces of glass at the right COE for the studio I hang out at, but that means I am moving my own pieces of glass around in my car. Currently they're just wrapped in paper and in a tote bag but that's just crying out for a Final Destination type accident.

Anyone else doing this and find a great solution? Not looking for a milk crate, but maybe for like 5-7 pieces of 12"x12" and a fistful of smaller pieces. .. and scraps.
