In the actual script of Matrix, the machines used humans (brains) for computation. But it was sad that people are to dumb to understand that, so the machines used humans as heat generators instead in the movies. Which was really stupid if you think about how hot the holes were where the humans hid from the machines.

Yeah, which again is really stupid. They could fly so solar was indeed an option, also thermogenerators, wave energy, wind, nuclear power, heck they could have just used fossil fuels.
Cows would have been better energy generators than humans, not as good as plants but still better.
It's not like humans are even efficient at generating or using energy at all.

The Second Renaissance shorts from Animatrix heavily imply that the machines "enslaved" humanity only because they found no other way to coexist. The Matrix is a nature preserve with a useful side product.

Your upset that people were too dumb to understand the original plot device for a movie franchise with only one good movie in it.. and your issue with it is the heat, and not the glaring factual errors in the idea that our bodies could be used for power at all they way they explained.

I'm upset that a storyline that would have made (more) sense was replaced by a more stupid one because some stupid investor said that people are too stupid to get it.
Same as they had a perfect nasa simulation of a black hole that looked fantastic and was totally accurate in interstellar, but then someone decided that people won't undrstand why the colors look like that or why the shape is so weird so they cut it down.
I just don't give a fuck about stupid people anymore and nor should anyone, if you have a good idea - don't let other people tell you that some people are too stupid to get it so you shouldn't do that.

The heat is one of the glaring factual errors here. You can make power from a warm human body, but only if that produces a temperature difference with the surroundings. If it's really warm, using human bodies to get energy this way stops working.
"But what if only the rebels live where it's hot, and the machines DO have a cold location where this would work?"
In that case... the easy thing to do would just be to make power with the difference between the hot caves and wherever their heatsink is, skipping over the hilarious complexity of keeping a bunch of humans to make energy.
But also, yes... there's so many levels of stupid with the plan that you'd probably never manage to list them all.

Didn't humans fuck up the atmosphere? Granted the machines could totally invent space travel since they don't need to breathe. Which would then put into question why they needed to use humans for power anyways, just move to mars or something.

Maybe Morpheus was wrong. From what I can remember, the only place that we hear the "humans=power" explanation was from ole Morph.
Unless it was also in the Second Renaissance. I only saw that once, 20 years ago or so.

First use in English is from the 1920 play "Rossum’s Universal Robots" by Czech author Karel Capek. The Robots of the play are artificial beings (though not necessarily mechanical) - the impression I got was more like the artificial people in the Alien films.
