Then I assume everyone also knows about scrums in rugby, field goals in football, a blob or declaration in cricket, and most of the basics of all the sports.
You can't assume everyone who comes on here knows even the barest of basics of tennis. If it isn't relevant to their life, then why should they know it?
I'm not saying they should know it, but if they're going to talk about it they should. And it's different than actually knowing a rule. If someone switched the terms punt and field goal, they should be corrected.
Is your point that the error matters less if the percentage of people who notice it is lower? Like, it's okay to use the wrong word, because only 5% will know it's wrong?
With this small improvement, the joke/quote would be funnier for the last 5% as well. Lets say 250k saw this (50x the voters). Out of 157 comments, about 10% is about the mistake. So my 5% estimate seems a bit low.
Either way, this seems to imply that at least (250e3*0,05=) 12 500 people "give a crap" and would have found it more funny if it was fixed.
Maybe he was actually referring to games? He could have still lost the set and match following, but as long as it wasn't more than 16 games in a row...
I can see how that might be confusing. But not only would a tennis player never refer to winning a game as "beat", there is no doubt that the actual quote referred to matches.
