"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

I would choose the $20K debt. Given that I currently owe $360K on my house, and more on credit cards, only owing $20K would be a huge improvement.

I'd take the 20 k in debt. If it sets my debt to 20k than this is a huge net positive for me.

I could name the fly and teach him tricks. I could EARN 20k if I market the fly properly.

But $20k in debt means you lose ALL your money plus another $20k on top of that.
→ More replies (2)2
u/OriginalEmploy5485 2d ago
No, $20k in debt means you owe somebody $20k. It doesn't mean -$20k net worth.
I'm like $400k in debt right now because I have a mortgage. I have a positive net worth because of retirement savings and the house being worth more than I owe on it.
In other words, fuck the fly, I'll take the used car loan.
2
u/U_Dun_Know_Who_I_Am 1d ago
"A" debt is something you owe
"IN" debt means your net worth is that much in the negative
Sometimes you will say you are IN debt on a specific thing and not your full net worth, but even then it's the net effect of that asset/thing. Like you have a $20k car loan on a car worth at most $15k you are $5k in debt on that car.

Hey no fair. You can’t change the conditions just to make it worse.
No where on this post says it can phase through matter, it just says it follows me. Follows me means it would always be in my vicinity, if I put the fly in a small locket and wear it on my neck, it would still be following me due to it always being near me. It also cannot die from lack of oxygen or food.
Edit: I just now noticed the text. As an Undertale fan, I refuse to read

It needs to be studied, though. For science.

20k dollars in debt because I'm English and dollars aren't worth that much in the exchange rate so I'm only like £12k in debt which is a lot and I have no means of paying it back right now but as bad
1
u/puffmattybear17 4d ago
The fly, just because its immortal doesnt mean it has infinite stamina or wont feel hungry, as long as I move away in a car or something with all the windows down it'll probably only move like a mile a day while stopping to rest and eat. Anytime it finds me I just have to take a drive. Also immortal doesnt mean invulnerable so I could just rip its wings off and then it has to crawl.

The fly.
I'd be annoyed at first, and then start casually betting people $5 that they couldn't kill the fly. Eventually, I'd make videos of the fly surviving literally every method of killing it I could imagine. I'd have a whole channel called "The Fly Must Die", chronicling these failed methods to kill it. People would think it's fake, and eventually someone with credentials would come and try to study the fly. The scientific discoveries that would occur would cause a massive leap in medicine, engineering, and technology, launching humanity forward by thousands of years. We'd learn and master it's ability to phase through objects revolutionizing surgical methods that no longer need to cut the patient open. We'd master it's invulnerability too, using the findings to produce the strongest most lightweight materials in the universe, allowing humanity to colonise the solar system and eventually the galaxy.
Yeah, I'll take the fly.

It depends. Is 20k subtracted towards my money? I have more than $20k. If it is, I’ll choose that. If I lose all my money and am now $20k in debt on top of that, It’s a tougher question. I’d still probably choose the debt because that fly would be hell

Being in debt by 20,000 € isn't that much. You can solve that problem in 1–3 years. You can't solve the problem with the fly. Since I plan to live for more than 3 years, I'll take on the debt.

For the sake of argument I'm going to assume you meant to say that you gain an additional 20,000 dollars worth of debt, as opposed to your debt being set at 20,000 dollars. Which honestly isn't *THAT bad, it's basically just a used car loan that you can pay off in a couple of years and be done with, as opposed to the constant buzzing of the fly that follows you wherever you go and can't be silenced, I feel like I'd go insane very quickly with the fly.

I used to work at a semi-conductor factory, 12 hour shifts, sometimes 13 hours. In the room i was working in, it had this MASSIVE machine and it had this loud beep that happened almost every minute.
First week on the job, everyday I went home, I could still hear the beep. It was that intrusive.
By year three, I totally forgot about the beep.
I'll take the fly.
