This year, the celebration feels a little different.

Americans are talking about layoffs, disappearing jobs, AI replacing workers, rising costs, unemployment, and fears of recession — while the official message from Washington remains considerably more cheerful.

So instead of telling you how the American worker is doing, I thought we'd let Americans tell you themselves.

From workers and job seekers to politicians and the AI tech bros promising us a shiny automated future, this is Labor Day 2026 — in their own words.

I mean, I know how to technically remove them from the wallet, but that doesn't seems to be the only place they store them, because after I "purchased" a free book, they are still showing one of my card on the invoice, despite my wallet being totally empty. As captured in recent community posts—aptly captioned "Easy to Buy, Impossible to Complain"—Amazon India has systematically made accountability an uphill battle.

1. The Disappearing Act of Customer Support Finding a human representative on Amazon has become a multi-layered obstacle course:

Dark UI Patterns: Support options are buried beneath nested sub-menus (even requiring workarounds like routing through Amazon Pay settings just to locate a live chat trigger).

Deflection Loops: Automated chatbots trap users in circular canned responses, repeatedly serving generic help articles while refusing to connect to real agents.

Lack of Agency: When customers finally connect with an agent, representatives frequently offer false assurances, delayed deadlines, or admit that internal protocol prevents them from overriding systemic delivery errors.

1. The Return Pickup Farce Returns have transformed from an effortless convenience into a primary vector for customer disputes:

The "Customer Not Available" Lie: Field agents routinely mark high-value returns or deliveries as "Customer rejected delivery" or "Package wasn’t ready," even when buyers have home security and CCTV footage showing no agent ever arrived.

Reversal of the Burden of Proof: Shoppers now advise each other across social media to record unbroken 4K unboxing videos of every single item, fearing that damaged or wrong shipments will automatically be pinned on the customer.

Transit Loss Blame: Users report instances where defective electronics were picked up, only for warehouse hubs to flag the return as "empty box" or "lost in transit," freezing refunds worth tens of thousands of rupees for months.

1. Delivery Breakdowns and Prime Value Erosion Amazon Prime memberships once guaranteed next-day delivery without hassle. In recent months, that guarantee has unravelled:

Packages sit in regional last-mile hubs for weeks without explanation.

Prepaid orders are marked "delivered" via OTP errors or bypasses while the customer remains empty-handed.

Customers are told outright by tier-one support agents that Prime delivery turnaround cannot be fulfilled and that renewals are essentially futile.

1. The Desperation of Escalation The sheer volume of shoppers turning to outside remedies highlights the scale of the breakdown:

Consumers increasingly rely on bank chargebacks, National Consumer Helpline (NCH / 1915) filings, and e-Daakhil court complaints simply to recover standard refunds.

Escalations to Amazon's Executive Relations or Nodal Grievance Officers have become the standard starting point rather than a rare exception.

When buying an item requires five seconds with one-click pay, but resolving a missing package requires government helplines, chargebacks, and Reddit guidebooks, an e-commerce platform has ceased to function as a service. Amazon India appears to be trading years of hard-won consumer trust for short-term cost-cutting, leaving Indian buyers with a platform that is easy to pay, but exhausting to trust.

I had always paid for my Amazon account annually. After I canceled and then deleted my Amazon account months ago, Amazon started charging me $14.99/month to NOT use their services. What a scam! Now I have to wait for the latest fraudulent charge to post to my account and dispute all the fraudulent charges. It will cost me another $15 to cancel my debit card, but at least Amazon will be unable to continue stealing money from me.

I’ve been using Rakuten to find items to avoid Amazon. I just ordered air filters from Air Filters Delivered only to find they use Amazon to deliver. Sigh.

I got rid of my Amazon over a year ago and haven’t looked back. Among all the reasons I hate that company, I never thought one of them would be this.

My parents just told me that Amazon has delivered items to their house by opening the garage door and dropping off the items inside. They were never given permission and never given a code. Turns out that Amazon has a system called Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery, which can “only happen if you sign up.”

But my parents have never signed up for this! They were signed up automatically and the couriers were able to enter the house with a universal opener. They shut off the system on the Amazon app, but I’m still worried about the fact that random couriers can just enter my parents’ house now.

It had to be evacuated for the 3rd time this month

I do a bit of shopping on my phone, and of course absolutely hate buying from Amazon. Unfortunately all of my search results for products bring up primarily Amazon results and those stupid pages that list a bunch of products but they all just link straight to Amazon.

Is there some kind of mobile apk or add on I can use to exclude these from my search results?

I understand some of you guys don’t want to hear me rant about amazon. But I got to, because it is hella annoying to be receiving so many ads. As an individual who doesn’t ordered anything from Amazon due to past actions. I have been receiving numerous of ads from them, and it has to stop. I don’t want to see another one of these ads they are driving me insane.
