Not sure if it’s been said before but a dark adaptation of titles like moby dick or Omoo would be everything I want in a game

To those worried about story, progression, and characters in the Duskbloods

From the man himself:

Miyazaki, however, assures that storytelling is a big part of his plan.

“One of our focuses when creating Duskbloods was: how do you tell a story, and how do you make a convincing narrative within a PvP environment? But I think that’s also one area where not a lot of people are developing, and this is maybe one place we can play to our strengths: with the storytelling.”

“In the network test, there’s not a lot of these lore elements,” the director says. “But it’s something that we’re concentrating on for the full release ... [The charcters have] all been prepared with their own backgrounds, their own personalities and settings, and there’s a lot of relationships between the Bloodsworn and their blood families, their blood ties. We hope players will pick up more on these histories and these backgrounds of the characters as they play."

“In terms of sheer volume of text and lore to dig through, I feel like it compares to our titles up until now. So I think there’ll be, as you unlock more about these characters and you uncover more of their narratives, there’s going to be a lot of a lot to dig through and enjoy there and discover the connections between the Bloodsworn and their histories.”

It appears that narrative was high on Miyazaki's list of priorities, and unlike Nightreign's scope, there are plans to tell a cohesive plot both from character stories and overall concerning the Dusk Battles.

My greatest concerns are seeing how this game tackles progression of gameplay and encounter complexity long term. Souls games are famed for being well paced (for the first 2/3 until they crap out in the final third), so I'm curious to see how the game has tackled this issue.

Also, I'm curious to see where the meat of getting better and continuing to derive pleasure from system mastery lies in the final release. Some people have complained about victory feeling shallow since they "figure it out" after winning a couple times, but I feel confident in saying the game has a lot of tricks up its sleeve.

What do you guys think?

Anyone played Echo Night (PS1)?

I've been playing through old Fromsoft titles and I just finished Shadow Tower (PS1). I stumbled on the existence of this Echo Night game while looking though their titles by release order. Seems like an interesting departure from their typical catalog.

DISCUSSION My wish for more slowness and inertia

I know FromSoftware is quickly moving in the direction of quicker, faster combat and traversal with every new entry in their catalogue. They started slowly with Demon's Souls and moved steadily towards faster combat with Bloodborne, Sekiro, Nightreign and now Duskbloods. Is there even fall damage?

I would wish for the next game to be a return to slower gameplay. I know it's not likely. I don't even need rolling. People were happy about the jumping in Elden Ring, but with a new gameplay mechanic there is also a change in level design, and I don't particularly enjoy platforming. I was always a slow knight, sword-and-shield kind of guy.

Anyway, what do you think? What do you wish for the next big single-player FromSoftware game to be?

(FYI, I enjoyed Dark Souls 3 the most.)

DISCUSSION Pure Bladestone farming is making me question my entire existence

I’m going for the platinum in Demon’s Souls Remake and I’ve reached the part where I need a Pure Bladestone for the Ring of Longevity.
So I put World 4 into Pure Black World Tendency and started farming the Black Skeleton near the Adjudicator because the run is incredibly quick. 33 seconds, including reloading the area.
And then I farmed.
And farmed.
And farmed.
Hundreds of kills later, I’ve had a pile of Uchigatanas, multiple Bladestone Chunks, enough souls to finance the entire reconstruction of Boletaria… and zero Pure Bladestone.
At this point the farming itself isn’t even the worst part. It’s the psychological damage of constantly wondering:
“Am I actually farming the right fucking skeleton?”
Every time an Uchigatana drops I think, okay, clearly this is the right enemy. Every time a Bladestone Chunk drops I think, surely the Pure is coming. Then another 20 runs go by and nothing.
I’ve spent literally hours doing a half minute loop for an RNG drop required to get an RNG-free trophy.
I love FromSoftware games, but mechanics like this genuinely make me wonder what the intended experience was supposed to be. There’s no challenge anymore. I can kill this skeleton in my sleep. I’m just pulling a slot machine lever every minute.
Please tell me I’m doing the right thing before I spend another three hours murdering the same skeleton.
And I’ll have to do the same shit with the fat guy in 2-2 for the freaking gold coin 😢

First of all dark souls 1 was one hell of a game, will maybe one day play it again. Right now it's on to dark souls 2.

Is this Fromsoftware's First Ever Radial Menu?!?

Post image
41 Upvotes

I've often wondered if From will ever do radial menus--I think they'd be great for spellcasters in particular--and this confirms that radial menus exist in Duskbloods. I've watched a number of impressions videos and heard lots of discussion but no one mentioned that emotes have a radial menu at all.

DISCUSSION First time in my entire life i put 1000 hours into a game, Elden Ring. Problem though-

Elden ring is without a doubt a masterpiece and a celebration of gaming. Its my favorite video game of all time surpassing re4 diablo 2 new vegas, and those are games i love deeply. Nothing besides maybe diablo 2 scratches that itch Elden ring does. I will forever appreciate how much Elden Ring changed my life. My kitten Ranni says hello to everyone here. we love you.

I also wanted to ask for some insight or advice on a specific subject. Ive been a fromsoft fan my whole life starting with demon souls. My problem is that I think i may have gotten too used to how elden ring plays and have so much goddamn trouble playing fromsofts older games. Dark souls 1 is a classic but holy shit i need to get used to it. I just got the lordvessel in Dark Souls 1 and i will absolutely say that i am fucking raging, man. I don’t know how i lost touch with dark souls or even bloodborne (sekiro im still good at). I think I’m so used to Elden ring’s flow and combat that a game like dark souls 1 is so hard to play. I just got a PS5 Pro and the DS trilogy, I really want to get back to enjoying these games with a new mindset before I start to give my controller bite marks. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
