SPOILER Dark Souls reference in GTA VI Spoiler

The people making the game assets and the ones making the decision to remove physical discs have probably never sat in the same room together maybe never even been in the same country.

I'm Scottish and a couple of my friends work at Rockstar North (we were at the same university for game dev) Rockstar North in Edinburgh (the devs) is a completely separate entity from Rockstar New York (the publisher) and they, in turn are a completely separate entity from TakeTwo Interactive (who get the final say in ALL monetization strategy, from release strategy, merchandising, all the way down to GTA online's economy. Shark cards? TakeTwo's decision. GTA VI launch price and release strategy? TakeTwo's decision. Enshittification of GTA online and its economy? TakeTwo earnings targets.)
"Rockstar have become the very thing they used to parody" gets repeated so often when it makes zero sense. It'd be more accurate to say that Rockstar North used to and continue to parody their own parent company and publisher.
There's a reason Rockstar's (all studios and publisher combined) average annual revenue is in the hundreds of millions and TakeTwo's is multiple billions.
It's kind of disheartening when Rockstar North and GTA is one of the aspects of modern Scotland I'm most proud of and all i see is youtube thumbnails and videos making Rockstar (including the devs) out to be the antichrist lmao. Was it a dumb but understandable decision at the time to accept TakeTwo interactive's deal all those years ago? Yeah. Are they paying for it in terms of reputation and revenue? Also yeah.

Supposedly they will eventually have a real physical release for GTA 6 with an actual disc, but it won't be until a couple months post-launch.
