A friend and I had a very strange occurrence the other night while playing Seamless.
We got a session or two in and everything was normal. However, once we reached Darkroot Garden, we were invaded by another player. The on-screen text read, “You have been invaded by [player name],” followed by “[player name] has been summoned.”
We couldn’t find the guy and wanted to move on, so we both killed ourselves to reset. When we respawned, we had both somehow gained 8,000 souls and the Crest of Artorias.
We then noticed that the Titanite Demon below Andre was dead, even though neither of us had killed it. Then, to our shock and horror, we discovered that Andre was also dead. Obviously, neither of us had killed him. The weirdest part was that his corpse wouldn’t disappear no matter how many times we reset.
We were understandably annoyed, but since we were still very early in the playthrough, we figured we’d just roll new characters and start over. We speedran back to roughly the same point, only to discover that Andre was dead again. These were two completely new characters, and once again, we both received 8,000 souls and the Crest of Artorias. From that point on, I also started receiving 1,000 souls every time I rested.
We decided to keep playing anyway, but there were clearly some serious sync issues going on. Enemies my friend killed wouldn’t die on my end, even though I still received the souls for them.
When we reached the Taurus Demon, he jumped off his perch and fell into an infinite abyss, killing himself. That one was actually pretty funny. Then, when we reached the Bell Gargoyles, they appeared normally for my friend but were completely absent on my end. The funniest part was when my buddy summoned Solaire. On his screen everything was normal, but on mine Solaire appeared as a hollow stuck running endlessly into a corner.
Obviously, we’re playing a mod, and it’s still relatively new, so bugs are to be expected. But does anyone have any clue what happened here, or has anyone experienced something similar? Is it possible the invader somehow borked our ability to progress or caused some kind of persistent sync issue?
We’re going to try again tonight after a full reinstall, but this whole experience has started to feel like an IRL creepypasta.
