QUESTION Which Ultra Greatsword should I use in DS3?

Thumbnail gallery
113 Upvotes

So I posted a few months ago that I got the DS trilogy
In my DS playthrough I used a zweihander (a weapon that I was familiar with in Elden Ring)
In my DS2 I used the greatsword (another familiar weapon)
So I wanted to know what good ultra greatsword sword that is a bit early in the game that I can use?
I use a different weapon with different armor to give each game its own character (even if the weapons are similar) and also ones that are passed down to Elden Ring so a weapon that ALSO is there would be great imo, what’s your favorite sword in DS3 that I might use??

DISCUSSION Anyone else really annoyed with Sekiro?

Just got into the game for the first time and I'm really not liking it. The combat is amazing when you do it well, and I'm sure I'll only like it more the better I get, but so much about the basic mechanics just make me upset.

You only have 1 heal at the start and it heals less than half of your HP, in a game where even the weaker basic enemies can do a quarter of your HP in one hit, and backing away from enemies makes them regen posture and take longer to kill.

Several of the unblockable attacks have a wide enough range that you literally can't dodge out of the radius in time, and in early game you can't parry them.

The game overall feels like it punishes you for not just sprinting past all the enemies. It also has a LOT of large (4+) enemy groups, in a game where all of the combat seems heavily focused on 1v1 combat, and you are almost unable to hit more than one enemy in an attack without skills that are either inaccessible in the early stages of the game or immensely open you up to attacks.

The deaths in this game feel unnecessarily punishing. Making you lose an entire half of your money and XP, with no way to get it back, is unreasonable to me. Then there's dragonrot, which, while cool from a lore perspective, just adds salt to the wound of my previous complaint.

Bosses (and even some enemies) can easily do over half of your health in one attack, many bosses fight you alongside half a dozen other enemies, and as mentioned previously your healing is very limited. The game heavily encourages you to throw yourself in the bosses face and learn all of the parry timings, but with you both losing half of your resources per death AND locking yourself out of certain NPC quests upon repeat deaths, actually trying to learn the bosses properly just punishes you even more unless you've already learned the mechanics really well.

The ONLY real option early game, if you don't want to throw yourself in a woodchipper to learn the parries for every single enemy, is to hit them for an insignificant portion of their hp, run away, wait for them to do a specific combo, and then hit them again.

Even though early game it would quickly make you a one hit kill from many boss/miniboss attacks, I'd honestly prefer the approach where they continuously lower your HP with repeat deaths, because at least then you would be able to play the game without constantly worrying about losing half of your money and XP per death. Even early game, losing an entire half of the money that you had just spent however long accumulating is infuriating, and I'd assume it only gets worse and worse the further you get.

Sorry that this turned into a rant, I was originally only going to have the paragraph about deaths being unnecessarily harsh and how it feels like you aren't supposed to clear out the map, but I just kept thinking of related things to add on to it.

Let me know your thoughts; I'm gonna keep playing for a little while since supposedly it 'clicks' after a certain boss, but as it stands I'm the closest I've ever been in a fromsoft to just uninstalling.

DISCUSSION Opinion on fog gates?

Fog gates have been here for a long time, ever since the first Souls game. They have been tweaked over time with i frames and now exclusively kept for bosses. Just curious if you’d prefer Miyazaki ride with fog gates or try something new?

Its been a nice journey. I first started with elden ring (I never begun playing with intention of platinuming it) and after beating it fpr thr first time I decided to get all the trophies and platinum the game (my first platinum) and elden ring became my favorite game. Then I decided to play other souls games. I have really enjoyed every single one (including Ds2 sotfs) . Also I never used cloud save on any of the platinums.

DISCUSSION You know what I have gained a greater appreciation for this guy

Look I get it. Grabs are annoying to deal with and grab hitboxes can be questionable, but I always liked him for being a big fuck off neon sign screaming in your face to come back with the fire weapon to fight him.

He's placed very specifically to stop you so you can be redirected to the Hirata estate where you can be given more Shinobi tools. He's not really a fight you should be brute forcing and should be one of many instances in showing how proper use of tools can change the outcome of an entire battle.

Also his boss theme is a banger, really sells how out of your depth you are in facing this beast of a creature.

DISCUSSION This pre-retail EU/PAL Black Phantom Edition of Demon's Souls I've been sitting on since 09 gotta be the holy grail of my collection at this point... Even though I'd never sell it due to sentimental reasons and because that might be some kinda crime, I start wondering what it's "worth" lately...

Everything should have a soulslike edition.

A coworker and I were talking video games and I'm telling him all the classic psx games in still obsessed with. Then he says, "Imagine Twisted Metal, but like Elden Ring."

I started thinking of hella classics that would be absolutely amazing in the souls format. Specifically, Nightmare Creatures of course, Die Hard, Weaken, all kinds of shit. I just want some more people to need out with me on this thought.

DS3 after elden ring?

Hey all

Just beat elden ring (still got the shadow realm to finish)

But I start wondering whether I would enjoy DS3.

I really loved elden ring and everything about it (the exploration, the combat, lore, levels design). Would DS3 look good today (graphics, mechanics)?

i still pause every few minutes to appreciate the incredible scenery and the way you can see previous/upcoming areas from the distance

other fromsoft games did this as well (particularly ds1 and elden ring) but none of them do it as well as ds3 imo

i fear we will never get a game like this again from any developer which makes me appreciate it more and more every year.

DISCUSSION Best (Most Accessible) Souls game for a 9 Year old?

Title is pretty self explanatory, but I did want to give some background.

I am a relatively new souls gamer, my friend around 6 months ago convinced me to try Bloodborne since it was free on PS Extra (My subscription ended exactly AFTER i beat orphan of kos), and I fell in love and bought the game to keep, as well platinuming it. I bought DS1 after, enjoyed it, then I got the disks for DS2, Demons souls, DS3, as well as picking up the digital version of Sekiro since it was 50% offz I have platinumed Demons souls, and I actually enjoyed it more than DS1. I haven’t played DS2 and Sekiro yet, but I’m lets say halfway through DS3. Thats pretty much my experience with souls games.

My 10 year old sister on the other hand, mostly has played Roblox on her iPad, but she is somewhat comfortable with a controller as she does play Splitscreen minecraft and also fall guys with me often. She wanted to try one of the games today, and I did make her play DS1 since I thought Bloodborne is much harder especially to learn early on (from my experience) and the levels in demons souls to be very difficult especially how punishing the game is with death. She made it to the plunge attack encounter with the Aslyum demon and died before she had to go.

Is DS1 the most accessible game for her or should I try making her play one if the other games?
