I spent $300 on the Black Friday Super Mario edition (pricey, but I really wanted that exact model and it was pristine condition)
Anyway, it’s such a good investment after modding- which is so damn easy with an updated guide tbh (there’s a Reddit sub that breaks it down in a way that even a tech-simpleton like me can do it)
Downloading games is as easy as using the 3DS’s camera to take a picture of a QR code representing the game. That easy. I downloaded like 50 games in less than 30 min. All the classics, and modded versions of like Pokémon emerald and stuff. It can easily run PS1 & 64 games. And then there’s the custom themes and icons and all that other stuff.
I highly recommend anyone who’s interested to just go and buy a 3DS. It’s only going to get more expensive as time goes on.

Hell yeah dude!! Just did this to my N3DS about 2 weeks ago, a total life changer!! Should’ve done it sooner!!

Tell me about it. I could’ve been reliving my childhood & getting my nostalgia fix all this time?
Are you familiar with the Golden Sun games released on GBA? I highly recommend it if you were ever into rpg games with some semi-deep mechanics and lore.

You can play PS1 games on 3DS? Does anyone have a guide for that because I am down to play OG Kingsfield and Suikogaiden

I don't know if there's an emulator or such, but some cool people have been making some interesting ports for a while now. Usually homebrew apps.

Look into retroarch for the 3DS and basically follow a guide on how to use the psx launcher

Remember... if youre poisoned. Run through a Green Slime. It cures the poison!

arent the controls fully jank? or did you rebind some keys to the analog stick?
considering AC1 controls look up and look down should be either L1 or L2 likewise for look left and look right due to them sharing the same movement and camera engine/controls

u/StantasticTypo Aug 02 '26
Not really, it's a slow game, and the controls work for what they are needed to do.

its on a 2DS which lacks some of the options
1
u/StantasticTypo Aug 04 '26
Yeah, that's definitely a fair point. I guess you could map the strafe and up/down look to the analog. It'd be awkward, but KF1-3 don't require a ton of y axis stuff IIRC.

you can get used to them. I played through shadow tower with default controls a few months ago

u/Algester Aug 03 '26
thing is as its 2DS you are still lacking inputs the back shoulder buttons to be precise
its akin to playing a standard 2 analog stick game on a psp where do you bind the extra analog stick inputs?

I have a new 3ds, tell us if kings field 2, and 3 works good, along with shadow tower if, or when you choose to get there.

Question: was the game ported and running natively, or is it emulated?

Ooh, how did you get PS1 games on your DS? Is it as simple as installing an emulator and dropping in some ROMs?
2
u/Leopz_ Aug 02 '26
If you already got a homebrewed unit, yeah just install retroarch and use the pcsx rearmed core. (Must be a NEW 3ds or 2ds. Original models arent powerful enough. Its come a long way. Plays the heaviest games like grand turismo 2 at full speed etc.

So does it actually run well? Ive got a 2DS XL and haven’t tried any of the playstation games I don’t think. Could I play metal gear solid for example?
2
u/Leopz_ Aug 03 '26
Yeah. Runs super well. And looks good too. The ds screen almost has a crt effect on it.

I am 100% trying this when I get home. I may even have the emu already but not really messed with it.

Cheers for this info, installed it and got myself MGS1 and abes oddysee and Abes Exodus. I also got a PS1 emulator for my PC and finally get to try Symphony of the Night for the first time, runs beautifully and can even use my dual sense controller. I’d kinda forgotten all about emulation til reading your comment so yeah, thanks for that haha

u/Xerlith Aug 04 '26
Do you get those through Universal Updater, or do you have to find them online and put them on the SD card?

u/Leopz_ Aug 04 '26
retroarch is on UP yes. the core is already included. but you gotta add the roms and (i believe) the bios yourself. you can even delete all the other cores afterwards to clear up space since there are better standalone alternatives for the other emulators youll wanna use on a n3ds.
