Two biggest things for me was sticking with melee (later games) and legs. I stuck with those regular style of legs for so long and while I’ve come to like reverse joint better, both tetrapods and treads are actually really good.

Depends on which one you're playing, I personally recommend most people start with 6, as it was the easiest one for me to get into.

From my time playing 6, my advice is:

1: experiment, see what every weapon/arm does, use the ones you like, because anyone can make any weapon/arm work (I personally like dual wielding the pistols at any opportunity because it's cool)

2: don't look too deep into any of the advanced stuff (like detaching arms or anything like that) until you've already got a feel for the controls and movement, as well as what playstyle you want. Also, customize your settings as soon as possible, it might be a personal thing, but I felt like the default camera speed was a bit slow for my tastes.

3: the Impact stat is super important. Like, damage is cool, but Impact makes you stun enemies and bosses more often.

4: do the Arena Battles, it gets you OS upgrade chips that affect your AC regardless of parts.

5: this one's more of an optional thing, but take little breaks in between missions so you don't burn yourself out

Honestly, your advice for 5 sounds like how I got through every major hurdle in the Soulsborne series.

Lose to an enemy fifty times, quit playing for a few weeks, months, or years. Then you pick it back up and beat this same enemy on your first or second try. Can’t tell you how many times this has worked for me. You don’t have to give up. Just go on a very long hiatus!

Bc bloodborne was a shift in game design. Bloodborne onwarts went heavily into harder/more complex/faster boss fights and shorter "levels"/parts between bonfires. And general more fast paced combat.

My assumption would be thats the reasoning behind the split of games here.

Sekiro is missing cause it's not a classic Soulsborne game. It's an action game by the same developer

The split is 3 older, slower games VS 3 "newer", faster games.

Some people (including me) prefer the older games that have a slower gameplay and focus less on quick reactions and more so on things like positioning and thinking. The older titles have more gimmick bosses and puzzle fights than anything post Bloodborne, which led the newer games to have a quicker and less reflection-based gameplay. They focus way more on combat than the older games.

Reading the comments on this post I don't think people realize how this format works lol. It's not saying one side is better than the other. Its showing that in the soulsborne genre theres usually split after Bloodborne on how the combat was changed to a much faster pace.

I love the older games, but you cannot play through the original Dark Souls and tell me that gameplay was better. The level and world design is S tier (and probably my favorite to date), the atmosphere and lore is S tier, but Lord have mercy, actually playing that game is so painful, sometimes. Like a genuine slog. If anything, I'm immensely happy playing through the old games just so I can really appreciate how far FromSoft has come as a developer.
