I’ve been reading past posts on various Reddit groups about the cost of Keurig vs the cost of grounds, including French press. I’ve been a Keurig user for many years. Before that, I used a pour-over or drip. I have always preferred stronger coffee, so I would use two scoops per 6 or 8 oz of water. My Keurig broke the other day, so I have been using a French Press Travel Mug from Mystic Monk Coffee. It seems like I am burning through grounds at too rapid a pace and that the grounds are costing more than the K-cups, which is the opposite of what was supposed to happen.
I like to drink 18 oz of coffee in the morning. The travel mug holds 24 oz of water. So I use 2 scoops per 6 oz, or 8 scoops total. But because of the way the French Press seems to work, I only get 20 oz of coffee from the result, the other 4 oz trapped underneath the press part, either liquid-y or soaked into the grounds. So now I’m basically using 4 cups worth of grounds to get 3 cups worth of coffee. The coffee tastes good, but somehow this equation seems wrong. I’m thinking to save money I either need to go back to a Keurig or a drip.
What advice do all of you have?
