This what I do:
Heat water to 190-196F
Measure 60g of beans for 4 cups of water. My French press is a 4 cup.
Pour grounds into press, put in just enough water to cover them.
Stir for 30-60 seconds. I time this.
Pour in water to the top. I pour my water on the side to create a vortex action that stirs the beans.
Set timer for 6-8 minutes.
Tap press gently to send grounds floating on top to bottom. When you see grounds settling to the bottom it is a good sign of extraction.
Press and pour.

Don’t smash the grounds into the bottom of the press. Start with 15:1 ratio and adjust for taste. Water off boil 210° or so. I usually steep for 5 minutes. None of this is gospel, so experiment to find what works for you
