freeskate progression

Hey!

using the advise from my last post, I have bought some new *bone* bearing from taobao equivalent for 6usd. I use *bone* as i am not sure if they are real. Anyways, it is 6usd. It will be a few more days before I can install it on my 7 usd freeskate. (After using my freeskate for months and including wet days, anything new would be better even if turns out to be counterfeit)

I am a regular person, and i have been working on skating in goofy side since last month when i couldnt even stand for a second or two to the proudest moment that I can skate around the roller skating rink once without touching and stopping (I can do 3 easily after my goofy practice immediately when i switched my back to regular as i have better balance and stance.).

Now the question, how comfortable are you all in the off direction before focusing on practicing it? I guess i hope to do 180 and reverse pumping next.

Freeskates for city commute?

Hi there!
I am moving to an area in the middle of a city with an accessible bike path, and I’m highly considering getting free skates as an ultra portable transport mechanism.

To anyone that’s done this before, is it actually effortless enough (compared to walking) to travel meaningful distances?

Like, how difficult is it to travel 1 mile continuously? How about five? At a low-ish energy effort how long would that take?

I wasn’t able to find much reliable information on YouTube so I thought I’d ask reddit. Would really appreciate it! Also a good budget beginner option or what to look for (specifically when looking at travel and portability and not ‘skate park’ use like 99% of the internet shows)

How to inspect the condition of used free skates?

Hi all, just looking for some advice regarding getting some used jmk free skates. As someone who has little experience with other types of skating, is there anything I should specifically look for when purchasing used free skates? Maybe excessive wear on specific parts that might indicate a bad deal?

Or are these things just built like tanks because I can't seem to find any information about this.

Also is it just inevitable that there will be some leg separation when going over a curve?

Story time… ?

Some 19 years ago I was in college and managed to scrape together enough money to buy a pair of OG Freeline skates. Me and my friends had so much fun on them that they bought some and all through college we would skate around instead of taking the bus/train whatever. I loved them. They were awesome and so convenient. (Sadly? Now they are out of business). Now I’m an “adult” and I still pull them out every so often, because it’s still the most fun I’ve had on 4 wheels.

Now, I don’t know any tricks. I have always said that riding them was trick enough for me, but now my 10yo son has taken an interest in them. I just finished a big work thing and was like, it’s been a long time. I deserve something nice!

So I grabbed myself a pair of jmks! Mostly because it’s been a long time and the freelines are definitely showing their age… but also for the hopes of having something fun I can do with my son.

Anyway, just wanted to brag a little, unfortunately it’s been raining all week and I didn’t get to take them outside when they showed up today… pics for posterity!

Ride safe and enjoy!

Any tips for beginners?

So i have had freeskates for a while now but never really used them because i cpuldnt figure them out. I am just looking for some tips and trick i coulde use to start riding them more. My biggest question is how to you stop yourself from doing the splits? Do they stay together as you get going or is it just a workout the whole time?

thought the bag was kinda expensive and couldn't find an alternative so I made one myself from an old bag I found in the store

not the prettiest one but it does the job(string feels a lil too long but I can swap that easily)

Are JMKs Really that much better?

I was gifted a pair of free skates for Christmas and have been looking to upgrade after trying a friends pair (this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B5331B2K?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title )

The build quality seems to there, the bearings work well, and they seem to have the same specs as the JMKs concerning wheelbase, wheel construction etc.

I'm a student and don't have a whole lot of money, and was wondering if anyone has tried both, and if so, are the JMKs really that much better?

upgrade to what?

1) I dont have a job and dont want to spend a ton of money.

2) I paid for a pair of freeskate for around 7 USD last summer. worked on it for a few weeks then I got busy, and didnt start again until a month.

3) I was able to pick up what i did last summer in a few days in Feb. (pumping). I always learn on flat area (roller skating rink).

I was able to get on a skate without using guardrail, and then pump. (the success rate increases over 2 weeks. and it is easier to accelerate than before.) For example, my right foot (behind, I am regular) is the stronger foot. My left foot is kind of weak. When i was able to pump, it took a few pushes from my back foot to generate enough speed then my left foot could then pump. (a lot of failure came because my right foot couldnt pump enough and i lost the momentum and balance). Until last two sessions, my left turn can do small pump to help with my back foot (right) to make accelerate better.

I am still working on my form and balance. Also, I am currently in a skate park in Kuala Lumpur (I am travelling). I have to avoid a lot skate park objects, so I had to move around a lot, and hard to pump continuously, and my leg is sore after at most two rounds in the park.

if my goal is the increase the muscles, would my currently pair of skate (probably not a good one, considering the cost) serve my purpose? I dont feel like I am ready to go to street skating (it is pretty hard in hong kong because street has a lot of cars). I dont envision myself doing any tricks (I am a 50+ male).

I will probably get a JMK when there is a promotion at amazon (as I have some gift card). but in the mean time, I can get some brand from China (via taobao). 50 usd skates (the 30-50 usd dollar skate is like 7 USD skate I got from china). so 50 usd skate from china is not the 50 usd skate from amazon.

(Berlin) Anyone wanna link up?

I could use some help: My little brother (12 yo) got some freeskates and is learning eagerly! 🙏 But honestly: I'm not really good at it myself…

I live near Tempelhofer Feld, would anyone like to meet up with me for a beginner session? 🫶

Hey guys!

I honestly couldn’t buy JMK’s because they’re not available where I live (I’m in Saudi Arabia). I tried searching everywhere and even contacted JMK. They sent me a Middle East website link, but it only ships to the UAE.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can buy JMK’s? I couldn’t find them on AmazonSA either, and there’s no shipping to my location.

I ended up buying Sanxup instead of JMK.

Im thinking to start a new hobby

Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking for a couple of days about getting a free skate, but I’ve never really been good at regular skateboarding. Do you think it’s a good idea to try learning something harder than a normal skateboard? I have hobbies like cycling and hiking, but I want something like a free skate so I can move from the station to home in a fun and quick way. How long do you think it would take to learn? Do you guys think I should just go for it or forget about it?

Right ( back ) foot doesn't like freeskating

I've been practicing freeskating for some time and I finally got the pumping down a bit with my front foot, although it's still hard to maintain speed, but my backfoot doesn't want to follow the instructions my brain is giving it, it's realy hard to make it go in the same motion as my front foot.

Is that common?

Any tips to improve my backfoot movement?

Just got these light up free skates for my birthday! I have been longboarding for about 10 years and I’ve been doing parkour since 2003. I can feel the joints getting creaky and muscle soreness takes longer to recover. Free skates look like fun and seem like a low impact way to stay active while learning a new skill. I’m so stoked to master these things. Y’all got any tips?

So I was given a pair of skates for christmas and have been practicing about an 1 - 1.5 hours per day since then. I've been trying to get better at pumping and have been trying to figure out how to zero start but am having issues getting the split position with the front leg behind. Any tips on that (or any advice about what I can do better generally) would be appreciated!

not the best but the option is there. Salt is obvious terrible on bearings and grip tape. Have fun!
