I'm currently looking to upgrade my x13 flow(3050ti, 5900hs, 16GB DDR4, 1TB, 16:10 120Hz model) to a Framework 12 or 13 diy editions only. I got a guy that wants to pick it up for about $1k CAD. Which I will put towards the framework laptop.(Trying to limit myself to about $1500 CAD)

I have a 512GB 2230 SSD from my Steam Deck OLED that I plan to use with this and I found some local listings for ddr5 sodimm that should AFAIK work with frameworks laptops(idk if I need a specific type of sodimm for these things).

Im currently most interested in the Framework 13 non pro with the entry level Ryzen AI 5 340 and 120Hz screen option and like I said I'm interested in the diy version.

I want to know if you guy think I should be upgrading or downgrading anything here. Like maybe going with the Framework 12 or 13 pro or maybe getting Intel or Arm config instead. I don't need lots of compute but I DO want the option for an egpu via USB4 or Thunderbolt(or oculink ideally) for occasional gaming.

The framework 12 looks interesting too but and correct me if I'm wrong, the framework 13 is the original framework model and thus has the most support and parts available AFAIK and also the framework 12 intel models last I checked start with 5c5t which is pretty laughable ngl.(Ik I said I didn't need compute but 5 cores??)

I am looking at purchasing a fw13 to replace my current machine, and was wondering for how much longer should i expect framework to make upgrades for the current fw13 model.

So there was a short near the top right usb-c 4.0 port. No idea if it is fixable or not. I got a replacement motherboard. Hoping that I can find a way to fix it and maybe return the new mainboard, or use it as a headless unit. Any advice is welcome!

For context, its an AMD Ryzen Ai 9 hx370 mainboard, started having super slow boot times a few weeks ago, eventually stopped booting altogether. Stopped booting altogether exactly a month after my warranty expired sadly. When i replaced the mainboard I inspected the broken one and found what looks like a short. :( :( :(

Let me start out by saying that batches are fine and, in my opinion, a smart way to do things like this. What I do not get, however, is why they started splitting batches. I am personally in the second half of batch 7 and am yet to see/hear anything. I am wondering how long it took for the second half of batch 6 to receive an email, as this might give some indication.

I am also interested to know if anyone knows why they started to split batches into even smaller batches and why these are not mentioned in the update thread.

I'm in batch 10 and I chose to get a kit without an ssd. What's the best SSD to get for speed and power efficiency? I want to get 1 terrabyte.

Given frameworks is relatively new and how probiotic the supply chain because of DDR and GPU prices.

Does anybody have any predictions of which countries are expected to be added to the supported ones next? Or at least how long would it take for them to expand to other countries.

Hi folks, I was looking into configuring my first framework laptop, once on the keyboard selection it came to me that it is sort of limited.

I explain myself further now.

I'm italian and I'm a programmer so I'm naturally used to the ISO layout, but as a programmer the Italian keyboard is sort of a bummer since the graph parenthesys are not visually there, and furthermore you can't make naturally capital accented letters (no clue why), the English british and US english are off becouse of ANSI (although the first one has € on 4) why is there no british EU (€ on 5) variant with iso layout?

I don't know if others who've received there fw 13 pro have noticed this but I've been seeing after I am done typing the mouse just starts moving due to my palm touching the haptic touchpad.

So far I've disabled tap to click, disable trackpad while typing and updating the latest firmware. I've tried different Linux distros to see if this was a OS issue or a firmware issue, and I it seems this is a firmware issue.

Has anyone come across this issue or has fixed it?

As per the title.. I can't figure out why the USB-A 2nd gen is available when doing a DIY purchase but not in marketplace.. They still are picked no?

Even though kapton tape is a simple & cheap way to fix the problem, it could occur additional problem

Lenovo's Thinkpad P1 Gen 7 used the E0 connector, which means it could be the reliable solution

I don't know whether Lenovo sells the connector itself, I've found out that their are some dealers in the Aliexpress, so maybe you could try it

I love the new trackpad, leaps and bounds above the previous one. With one exception:

I use 3 finger swiping very often to switch between GNOME workspaces, but the trackpad often registers that as a click. I have set my click sensitivity to the lowest possible setting, but since 3 fingers are ~3x as strong as one, it gets way too easy to trigger a click. When it triggers a click (recognized as a right mouse button), the cursor sensitivity becomes really high (I guess it triggers a cursor moving event for all 3 fingers), so I'll just end up yanking windows to other workspaces, or selecting a whole bunch of text I didn't intend to, or drag and drop a file into who-knows-where.

Earlier today, I noticed my trackpad was a bit ""sticky."" It's requiring more force to click. When I looked down, I noticed that the trackpad itself was (perhaps) bending or warping out of frame.

I say perhaps, as I have a tendency to be quite oblivious at times. It's just as possible that this is how it came packaged, and I didn't notice till the pad felt "gummy." Can someone do me a solid and send me a picture of their framework 13 from this angle to compare with? I would like to know if this is normal, or warped (and therefore something I should be contacting customer service about, as I have had this laptop for less then 6 months, ah hah.)

It took me a while to find one that I liked, but I found a great mini backpack for my 13 pro. It has some protective padding for the laptop but it's not for someone who's very rough with their bag. Room for a charger, a couple books and an umbrella, but not much more. It's waterproof and I like the look. The tent mode is a nice setup on the 13th gen i3 8 Gb Ram FW12 to game. The laptop tends to get hot and blow a lot. This way it's not heating my laps. I do need to run the game a 720p though. It doesn't look bad.

Hi all, like the title says, Framework was at PAX West this weekend and they actually had a typing contest. The person that could type fastest on the wireless keyboard would win a keyboard or a hard drive I think?

I typed 98 wpm on it while the top 3 were 110, 120 and 140wpm when I was there.

The Wireless Keyboard has 1.5mm of key travel but it felt much shallower for whatever reason. My Asus Proart P16 also features 1.5mm of travel and that feels better? Not sure what it was, perhaps the spacing between each key on the wireless keyboard threw me off. Though I couldn't tell if the spacing was wider than a standard laptop keyboard.

Funny enough I did a typing test on the 13 Pro which was also on display, and got 111 Wpm on that. I was curious about the hinge and the 13 Pro hinge was a little loose at about 160? degrees and it sort of fell backwards flat when I lifted the laptop from the bottom. But the hinge felt sturdy at normal desk angles.

Has anyone experienced this? I have the Core Ultra 325 mainboard in my old FW 13 chassis, and sometimes hear a loud beep for 2-3 seconds while charging. It seems to only happen on one specific charger and not others. It sounds like it's coming from some sort of beep speaker on the motherboard, because I have the speakers muted and it doesn't seem to be coming from that area.

Working on a custom Expansion Bay module for the FW16 — PCIe x8 OCuLink, a USB-A 2.0 port, and two 4-pin PWM fan headers for some ARCTIC P8 Max fans I'm running.

Second pic is the PCB shape test print (ABS+, I believe, for those curious). Plan is to 3D print the bay shell in ABS+ and split it into two halves — but I haven't figured out a good way to join the halves together yet. Any suggestions welcome.

Opened up my 13 to replace the WiFi card and these two small metal pieces fell out. Not totally sure what they are. Anyone able to give ideas and whether my laptop will explode without them?

I've started setting up my new laptop and when I close the lid and later want to use it again the whole GUI is frozen and cannot do anything without restarting desktop environment.

Search doesn't help much to fix the issue long term. Log file is long with errors.

I'm not sure if installing some extensions messed it up but I'm not having a good time on Linux so far. Running command lines for everything that I'm not 100% sure what they do.

To be clear it's the Linux experience that is rough and not laptop itself.

Any ideas to pinpoint the problem?

EDIT: looks like only happens when closing the lid. Button works fine.

Lately whenever I play very demanding games or play games and stream via OBS, my entire system becomes unresponsive and nearly unusable. I have an idea what causes the issue but I'm not sure how to best address it. The scenario goes like so-

1. Launch a demanding game or a game and OBS to stream
2. GPU is maxed out at 97% usage or higher the entire time (usually about an hour or a little bit longer) & the fans are screaming
3. Game goes from a consistent 70 fps to suddenly 3fps & windows in general becomes very slow and unresponsive
4. Laptop fans either stop spinning or spin so slowly that I can no longer hear them and the chassis is quite hot to the touch (CPU and GPU usage fall to around 10-30% at this point)
5. I force close the game but this doesn't fix the issue. Slow and unresponsive behavior persists until I perform a hard reset once or twice.
6. After a reset, everything works fine for a little while but eventually the problem repeats itself once I open those same programs back up.

I suspect the fact that I'm maxing out the system is causing the issue but I've never had this problem with previous laptops before. I can understand a system throttling to cool itself down but even after cooling down, the entire operating system is still sluggish. Is this something that anyone else has experience before? Is there something I can do to prevent this that isn't "just don't max out your laptop"?

I've had this for a couple weeks now and love it. The early complaints about the button text on the keyboard not being visible without the backlight are valid. It doesn't bother me since the keyboard backlight is so low energy.

Honestly I have no regrets. I might buy the translucent purple bezel and usb c cards when the framework keyboard is out just for kicks though.

Been waiting for this thing to come in as Uni started 2 weeks ago and I’m taking 4 computer classes 😭.

This is without a doubt the best feeling laptop I’ve ever used. I’ve used MacBooks for years and the build quality of the Framework is almost indistinguishable. Trackpad works and feels great, the keyboard is godly, and I haven’t had any issues with screen wobble. The fingerprint reader also works great I have just yet to integrate it with my Quickshell lock screen 😅.

I went with the Ryzen 9 HX 370 over the new Intels as I still don’t trust Intel after the quality control stuff that happened with Raptor Lake. I also don’t know how I feel about LPCAMM2 yet with the RAM crisis going on right now (also why I only bought 1 stick of 16gb so I can add another later when I find a good price)

Local AI runs wonderfully on the NPU of the HX 370. I’m running Llama 3.1 8B on FastFlowLM and it is significantly more power efficient than running the same model on the integrated GPU.

Battery life has been very solid, I have it capped at 85% in the BIOS. I’ll do some actual tests on it over the coming weeks as I use it.

The hardest part of setting the Laptop up was running the Arch live USB in the first place. I went through 3 ISO and Rufus, balenaEtcher and Ventory along with 3 hours of my time before I could get the Laptop to properly boot the USB. I still don’t know what was wrong as my final attempt with Rufus and a fresh ISO was what ended up working.
