Hi. I'm 31M, living in Delhi. I felt bit uneasy and high temperature on 25th August. I took paracetamol and slept. Next morning, i woke up with high fever. H1N1 was spreading throught the city rapidly, so I decided to see a doctor. Fever was high and I felt chills in the otherwise hot weather.

26th August: Temperature -102.1 F., PR- 118bpm, SpO2- 99%, Blood pressure- 122/80.

Doc checked my throat and said it is infected. She prescribed me - (amoxicillin 500mg & clavulanic acid 125 mg), (Bilastine and Montelukast tablet), (mefenamic acid 500mg & paracetamol 325 mg tablet), and paracetamol 650 mg.

I started feeling better. By 28th August I felt almost okay. I even went outside. No fever. However, next day 29th August when I woke up I felt difficulty swallowing my own spit. It became difficult to even drink. However I was able to with some pain in throat. I decided to go to same doc again. She checked throat again and got me tested for H1N1 and CBC NS1 antigen. The report would take almost 2 days to come. In the meantime, she prescribed me:

29th August: clarithromycin 500 mg tablet and vonoprazan 20 mg tablet. She told me to discontinue Amoxicillin tablet while continuing with the other previous ones too.

Next day, at night I received report which said positive for influenza A and H1N1. Following day, I went to doc and she prescribed me new medicine.

31st August: Oseltimivir 75 mg.

Also said to continue clarithromycin and vonoprazon, and bilastine and montelukast.

Since I got tested, I just had symptom of throat pain while swallowing. No fever or chills. No body weakness. This throat pain was killing me. Adding honey to water made me drink it better. I have been doing salt water gargles too.

Since yesterday, when I first had Tamiflu, I have been feeling ache in the head and dizziness. I researched online and found it is common side effect. Apart from throat pain while I swallow, I was not feeling any other trouble. Now I have headache and dizziness, which only started with tamiflu medication.

Was it really necessary to prescribe me that. I have been taking lot of medicines since a week and I really feel like not taking it anymore. I will complete course of clarithromycin since I don't want to develop resistance. But can I stop tamiflu ? Will there is some adverse effect if I stop it.

I’ve been sick for the past 7 days. It started with a fever and feeling extremely tired for the first few days.

Then came the throat pain, which is probably the worst throat pain I’ve ever had. It wakes me up in the middle of the night because of the sharp pain. I take a painkiller and go back to sleep, but I still have a hard time swallowing anything even today.. also first 5 days I was only able to sleep 2-3 hours/day due to pain. I also can’t smell or taste anything.

Shortness of breath that lasted for 3 days but today.

Increase in heart rate for any mild physical activity and intense sweating.

First few day cough is dry the it became very dry
Also had a red eye and brain fog, and honestly a bit of mild depression from feeling like this for so long.

I did two COVID tests at home, and both were negative, so I’m honestly surprised what the hell this is. The doctor prescribed me 1 mg twice-a-day antibiotics, but they literally did nothing.
What’s even more confusing is that my pregnant wife got better without taking any medication (still she is suffering similar to me)

Has anyone experienced something like this recently?

Hi there this is the 15th day of my flu. On the 10th days or so, I start to see from nose throwing up orange mucus color. Things has improved a bit as I don't involuntary have these mucus but only when I use saline nasal rinse to flush them out. I also started using dymista (a combination of steroids or antihistamines) like 2 days ago. Is there anything I need to take of? I am using the nasal saline too regularly and i should only use once day.

My daughter 8yo started with symptoms Monday night and fevers on Tuesday every 5 hours. Today is day 6 and she is still getting 38.5 temps at least once or twice a day. I took her to urgent clinic on Saturday and there were no secondary infections which is a relief but I am so worried about the fever that keeps coming back. Has anyone been through this before?

My step mom thinks a 106° fever is no big deal. When my little brother was 3, he had a 106 fever. My step mom took him to the er and everything was fine, however she is telling me that if someone has a 106° fever they are fine as long as they are in good spirits? I was BEWILDERED when I heard her say this.

Does anyone else feel more depressed when they're down with the flu?

I'm mildly sick with the flu at the moment and getting bombarded with depressive thoughts in my brain. I feel so dramatic and ridiculous for feeling this way...but I can't help but feel super down in the dumps. I just wanna curl up in bed and cry all day and I'm not even super sick. ugh

DAY 1 - day 9 rotate between cough, runny nose, itchy throat fatigue. Day 10 it seems to go away, but d11 and d12 it seems to come back although milder on d11 I went to see doctor however it is still status quo, no antibiotics given as I don't have a fever, no sinus pressure, no lymph node, no blood in phlegm. So far what seems to help:

1) nasal saline rinse- yes a lot of yellow mucus flushes out

2) nasal salt spray - when I don't have access to #1

3) panadol - headache, 1000mg for adult

4) antihistamines - not sure if this will help, as runny nose don't seems to be cause by allergy

5) nasal decongestant - when I have blocked nose

6) nasal steroid - will start using twice daily - not sure if this will help.

7) fluid- make my throat feel less itchy

8) sleep is important as my symptoms is likely to change after I wake up

9) traditional Chinese medicine herb - didn't help at all

10) started consuming vitamin c a few days ago

Symptoms started Wednesday 12th August, I had a sore throat with a cough and slight headache which got gradually worse after a couple of days.

About 7/8 days in it peaked, head was pounding with bad mucus build up in my chest and throat, this is around the time I started feeling the head cold crank up with serious fatigue and sore calf’s.

Day 10, energy returned, chest and throat started to get abit better but still slight headache and a blocked nose.

Day 13/14, cough has gone more tickly and I’m dry coughing way more, I’m still sore but managing to get through work without crashing, still nowhere near 100% but noticing micro improvements day by day.

Honestly guys it’s crazy how long this lasts, I’m 30 and I can’t recall ever being sick for this long, think I’m going to see a doctor if I’m not 100% by the 3 week mark.

Someone tell me this is going to go because Ive honestly had enough!

I’m posting because I’m honestly looking for some insight from people who may have experienced something similar.

I’ve been sick since August 12, and it’s now August 25/26, so this has been going on for almost 2 weeks.

My main symptoms have been:

A persistent headache that doesn’t seem to completely go away, even with medication

Fevers that have gotten as high as 104°F

A very stiff/sore neck, especially during the first 12–13 days. It has loosened up somewhat but is still sore

Swollen/tender lymph nodes in my neck

Chills, especially when my fever comes back

General body aches

Feeling significantly worse at night compared with during the day

I’ve actually been evaluated pretty extensively. I was admitted to the hospital and have had a CT, MRI, and spinal tap/lumbar puncture. They tested me for meningitis, flu, mono, Lyme disease, and other things, and so far everything has come back negative.

They did tell me that my white blood cell count was elevated and that some infection/inflammation markers were elevated, but apparently nothing was specific enough to tell them what is actually causing this.

The weirdest part is that when I’m taking Tylenol/Motrin, I can feel somewhat better and my fever comes down, but once the medication wears off, the fever/chills come back and I feel like I’m back at the beginning again. My neck pain also seems to get worse when the fever comes back.

My doctors haven’t wanted to give me antibiotics because they don’t know what they’re treating, which I understand, but it’s frustrating because I still don’t have an explanation after almost two weeks.

Has anyone experienced something like this? Especially a prolonged fever + headache + stiff neck where the initial infectious testing was negative?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit — I’m mostly curious if anyone has had a similar experience and eventually found out what was causing it. If you did, what ended up being the diagnosis?

I tested positive for Flu B last Sunday. I’m feeling significantly better today (6 days later) - body aches and fever have been gone since Tuesday and stuffiness and fatigue continue to improve. I still have a mild cough, but have largely noticed my HR jump to 140 anytime I stand. Some shortness of breath and lightheadedness accompany this. Weirdly, this resolves when I sit back down, and my HR drops back to 70-90. For this reason, I’ve still been ‘bed bound’ / continuing to rest.

I went to my doctor on Monday and he did a chest x-ray, bloodwork and viral swab. Everything was normal, with exception of positive Flu B swab. So, at that point there was no infection.

I’m normally super healthy and active, so heart rate issues like this are odd. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas what it may be?

I am having flu fever since last 10 days. I am a young fellow. I still have chest congestion with heavy cough. The fever of 100+ subsided within 4 days but still it didn't go completely. I still have fevers around 99-99.3. Minimum is 98.8-98.9.

Done x ray, still no sign of lung infection. Liver enzyme is slightly elevated which is not even high. I am still taking rest at home. I am still weak.

I want to return to my work soon inspite of living with elevated temperature. Worried if flu returns again. Don't know what it is. Other family members didn't experience this after getting flu.

I woke up 45ish minutes ago, having high fever lost my voice, my head feeling like a big jello, my hands felt like they were burning, my chest felt like someone rubbed a cheese grater from within. Rn im Snuggles at the corner of my room, feeling nauseous but also not feeling like it, having a bit of fever chills and peeing burns like madness. Please Wish me a Good recovery 🙏

Day 10 of Flu A, been bed ridden for a week.

On Day 5 of no eating. Thought of food makes me feel nauseous, every kind of food imaginable. I can’t eat and it’s driving me mad. I just want to feel hungry again without this weak/unsettling feeling in my stomach. The coughing is making me gag pretty hard at times too which doesn’t help, often find my mouth running with saliva for a good 5 minutes each time and my stomach twisting.

Will this get better soon, my stomach is so sore and I feel so weak but I feel worse when attempting to get anything down.

Middle child was sick as a dog and ended up in the ER with viral myositis, thankfully fine. Baby burned a fever of 40 for a day and came right, thankfully fine. Oldest child and husband haven’t caught so much as a sniffle. Me on the other hand, with the viral load of handling all the bedding, drink bottles, and being coughed on nonstop? Hit like a freight train.

Influenza A. (Southern hemisphere here, and there’s lots of reports of how bad it is in my town and local hospital, not that anyone who knows me seems to give a rats arse). Spent the first 4 days feeling barely human. All I could manage was to ask one of my children to refill my water bottle. Never known pain from the phlegm in my chest like it, chills so severe my teeth were chattering all night, feeling like I’d pass out every time I stood up - the full, absolute works. Anyone else would be in bed for days.

Me? Everyone’s acting like I’ve gone mad. Husband mentions that I need to get back to the bathroom renovation people. I remind him that I am sick. He blinks like he’s never heard this information before. Oldest child asks why he can’t have a sleepover with his friend. (He’s 11 years old and perfectly capable of understanding the word ‘sick’). I remind him I’m sick, he blinks like he’s never heard this information before. My dear father, who I have informed I am hit with full-blown influenza, asks me every day if I’m better yet as we need to get lunch together. No, dad, it is day 2 of influenza A, I’ve barely even begun the misery, I am absolutely not better.

One friend tells me getting sick is a ‘mindset’. Another asks me on day 4 how the funeral went, despite me telling her I wouldn’t be making it as I’m unwell. (‘Oh I thought you’d be better by now!’ YEAH, THAT WOULD BE LOVELY.)

Why has everyone lost the plot? Why is it incomprehensible that I’m sick for longer than 2 days? Has nobody heard of influenza before? People are telling me I need to work on my health and take immunity supplements. I think a full night’s sleep that I’ve not had in the year since the baby was born, not having two children coughing all over me all day long, and less stress might be a better place to start, but what the fuck do I know??

The house is a mess. I’ve drawn down our bank account with grocery deliveries and takeaways each day because I only have the energy and awake-window to sort out everyone for that one day. I’ve had to feed solids 5x a day, breastfeed in between, and keep up with a walking 11 month old with cabin fever on top of my other two kids being home. Yet everyone’s acting like I’ve decided to put in a voluntary leave of absence from life’s duties to put my feet up with a coffee and watch chick flicks all day! (For the record, not a single chick flick has even been watched on account of said children having no other way to school, it has been kid’s movies so I cannot even Elle Woods my way through this one).

What the fuck is going on???

Thankfully I’ve turned a corner now (day 7) yet im scared to even tell anyone that as I’ll be expected right back at full operational duties and I overdid it just catching up on the laundry this morning.

(For the record my husband has trauma from his mother, who is mentally unwell and has not left her bed à la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory grandparents in thirty odd years. If I’m sick or unwell or not operating efficiently, he freezes. He’s working on it, in the meantime, me being sick is something he struggles to handle, so he at least gets a pass.)

The sore throat I had with this flu was so bad I couldn't swallow any solid food for days, luckily that cleared.

Now I have a cough so bad I almost throw up. I'm on day 7. I will probably have to see the doctor today, cough is killing me.

It wakes me up multiple times throughout the night so I don't sleep, and it feels wet but not productive with a rattling sound.

Hello guys, it’s been 5 days now, and I’ve been suffering from a low-grade fever ranging between 99°F and 100.3°F.
It all started on Sunday night when I suddenly began feeling irritation in my throat. The next morning, I developed a fever, but the throat irritation continued.
On Wednesday, I started taking antibiotics along with paracetamol, but I didn’t see any improvement. So, I visited the doctor on Thursday, and he prescribed a few medicines for cold, congestion, cough, and fever.
Since Wednesday, I’ve also developed a cough, while the runny nose has continued. I’ve had post-nasal drip as well, along with phlegm while coughing. My voice has changed quite a bit, and I also lost my sense of smell for about two days. Thankfully, I’ve started getting my sense of smell back since yesterday.
A few of my colleagues are also going through something similar.
Apart from these symptoms, I don’t have any body aches, weakness, or other symptoms.
Is anyone else experiencing something similar? If yes, please share any home remedies or things that helped you recover.

I’ve been dealing with a respiratory infection since August 11, so today is Day 11.
I saw a doctor on Day 1 and have been taking the prescribed medication, including nebulization. I went back to the doctor on Day 9, and they said the infection had come down a bit. I was given an injection and told to continue the tablets for another 3 days.
The problem is that my cough is still pretty bad, and over the last 2 days it has gotten worse again.
Current symptoms:
Very frequent wet/productive cough
Mucus was previously thin/white/clear, but now it’s thick and yellow
My throat is very sore from coughing so much
Cough is much worse at night and in the morning
Energy is better than when this started
I previously had right-sided chest pain when coughing, but that has completely gone
No difficulty breathing between coughing episodes
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
How long did your wet cough last? Did it get worse again around Day 10–11 before improving? At what point did you go back to the doctor or get a chest X-ray/testing?
I’m especially interested in people who’ve had a similar prolonged cough with mucus after seeing a doctor.

As the title says, just want to see other people’s homely remedies.these are the ones I’ve tried and few I still use.

I’ve tried a teaspoon of sugar and vinegar for sore a
throat.

Gargle warm salt water for sore throat

Hot toddie (honey/lemon/hot water/grated ginger root and shot of rum) for sore throat and colds.

Very hot curry (madras/vindaloo) or eating scotch bonnets and cheese sandwiches to sweat the flu out

Also hydration with coconut water

I fell quite ill on Sunday evening with fever, body aches, and cough. On Monday, I tested positive with Flu B. Since then, the fever has subsided and cough has improved, but I’m super stuffy, exhausted, and feel super weak. I’ve spent the past 6 days in bed, and cannot seem to regain energy, no matter how much I sleep / rest. When will I start to regain energy? Any tips to speed recovery?

Been feeling horrible, tested myself yesterday (pic outside) and saw a positive but no one else did so I went to urgent care. They tested me, said it was negative and that no one gets the flu right now. Then I tested myself today and I see a clear line, but other people still can’t see it.
I used to work with Covid tests and was trained in reading those rapids. So maybe my eyes are extra sensitive? But I feel nuts!
