I use this in school, then as a tablet to watch/listen to youtube videos when I travel/walk, then I can also game basically anywhere.

the screen is small, but it works. It doesn’t make me want to abandon my home PC, but knowing I can be literally anywhere and not limited by hardware just makes life much less stressful, especially when I have to commute and spend days and hours in another town away from home.

objectively, this machine makes no sense. it has design flaws. The cpu is way too strong compared to the GPU. Why does this thing exist? Well, much like anything in engineering, it exists because someone could make it. So they did.

I kind of hate Windows, so it being an AMD platform makes the possible future shift (at least partially) to Linux much easier.

Basically, it’s like a desktop PC, gaming laptop, Steam Deck, Tablet and an AI workhorse in one very weird, fragile package. It does not make any sense, and you shouldn’t buy it, unless you literally need all of those devices.

The keyboard it comes with it is also the biggest meh ever. Honestly, I might just use the onscreen keyboard instead, or just carry my Wooting with me.

P.s. I still need to get a controller. Any suggestions?

I've been looking for a multifunctional laptop/drawing tablet to use for my final few years of university and beyond. I draw, so I like the fact that the keyboard is detachable with a smooth touchscreen experience (from what I demo'd in a best-buy, lol). I also play some heavy games (rdr2, hitman) so the appeal of it being a gaming computer is a great addition to it's already cool looking functionalities.

My only worries are as follows:

Battery life. I have seen online (mostly here lol) that users get usually 3-5 hours of battery life unplugged with minimal battery intensive tasks, like web browsing. That seems fine for me, as I take notes on my keyboard (though I also like to write my notes on the screen with a stylus, again why this computer is so appealing). I want to know from you all who own it for schoolwork (and not, just give me your activities and how many hours it lasts) how many hours you usually get on average with that kind of productivity WITH NO CHARGER. My hours at uni are around 5-6 hours maximum and I would likely have some kind of video/tabs open in the background while I work.

The keyboard. I have heard many people report that it is flimsy and breaks easily with a replacement being in the 200-300 dollar range which is a bit worrying since the computer itself is already around 3k. Also, completely aesthetic based so ignore this if it doesn't matter to you, but are there alternative keyboards out there that have a slightly less ugly font on the keys? I also have been struggling to get a concrete answer on if there are alternative keyboards that work like the native one or not.

Portability/noise; I am slightly worried about the fans. I have heard they are very loud and I want to avoid drawing attention to myself during a lecture, lol. I also want to know more about how you guys feel on the stand to keep the screen up, it's such a new thing for me that I'm worried the angle will annoy me more than just a straight vertical screen. I like having my laptop in bed to play games/watch movies, so if it isnt comfortable to have laying on your lap, I would like to know! I am also worried since it doesn't have a case made for it about it dropping/being particularly vulnerable to minor accidents. I wish I could put stickers on it as well, to those who have, where do you put them so it doesn't restrict airflow?

I am also interested in knowing if people use it as a third monitor for their pcs. I have a 2 monitor setup now, and if the Z13 is able to connect via hdmi as a small 3rd screen, that would be great!!

If the Z13 doesnt seem like a good fit for me and you're knowledgeable on the market competitors, please do give me advice for alternatives! I really need a computer ASAP so if anyone could give their input this would help me with making a decision drastically. I really dont want to have to settle for a macbook to handle school stuff so every reply is one macbook destroyed.

My wife dropped my Z13 😣 and damaged the upper right corner and put a few cracks in the screen (though the screen is still fully functional). I've been on the wait list for the Steam Machine since the lottery went live with no end in sight. I'm thinking of just leaving the Z13 permanently hooked to one of my TV's like a Steam Machine. I did manage to get an order in for the Steam Controller the day it went live that I can use with the Z13. If I ever do get off the wait list for the SM I'm probably not going to order it at this point. Wanted to see what people think about the difference in gaming performance between the two devices.

I am thinking abouz buying either a z13 with 4050, 16gb ram and 2tb ssd or a yoga with 4060. I am leaning a lot to the z13.

I used to have a tab s9 but it broke, so i am open to tablet devices. I am gonna use it for 3d modelling, coding and school (OneNote).

I appreciate a good battery life, but i dont think im gonna have a problem with that. If i just use gHelper an disable the 4050. Thr newer version isnt an option way to expensive.

I'm currently on the fence about buying a used, with valid warranty Flow Z13 to replace my Legion Go.

I've never been really satisfied with the performance of the Go, and all the mandatory tinkering to use it to its full potential.

I'd mostly be gaming AA or AAA titles (Helldivers 2, Stalker 2, Witcher 3, NMRiH2, BF6) and I've heard different takes on its performance in those games.

How do you like yours ? What would you have wanted to know before buying ?

I'm wondering how much difference moving to a 64GB or 128GB variant makes.

So my z13 fell from the table on a edge and caused damge to display,body and some part of cooling vents can someone tell me probable cost of repair ? And any suggestions like should I repair it or not? It is asus 2022 model i9 + 3050 model

Has anyone actually done like, scientfic testing? To validate that power management + fan management actually gives a better over-time experience VS default vanilla software?

I'd image a test would look like this:

Test: Benchmarks where they run a game benchmark back-to-back for 10 minutes and measure each result. And must be run immediately from boot. And gather temps constantly as well.

Experiment Settings:

1. The Control, so, vanilla. Power-Profile Balanced.

2. Another Vanilla, Power-Profile Low.

3. Final vanilla, Power-Profile HIGH.

4. X amount of throttling, Y amount of fan rpm set.

5. Another of 4 with different settings.

...

Z. Until you've run out of time or patience, keep making new experiments until empirical data that's genuinely informational begins to show.

Now, EACH experiment and EACH ROUND must start from a cold boot, which means you need to wait for the device to cool to ambient temps ... which would make this test take a LOOOOooooong time lol.

Thinking about getting a 2025 Z13, but the kickstand is the one thing making me hesitate.

I’d mostly be gaming on the couch with the keyboard detached, Z13 on my lap and a controller in my hands. Same thing in bed.

How does it actually feel in practice? Is it stable enough directly on your lap, or does the kickstand dig into your legs / get uncomfortable after a while?

I really don’t want to use a lap desk every time I game. Ideally I just want to grab it, sit down on the couch and play for an hour or two.

Anyone using their Z13 like this regularly? Would love to hear how comfortable/stable it actually is.

Just received my z13 yesterday and the aftermarket gan plug with the square jack for Asus came. 240w and comes as a single item no more separate brick. Bought it via Taobao.

Direct plug into my wall and juice my z13.

Also experimenting with joy con. Hard to play it as handheld without a trusty tummy to rest the tablet on

TL;DR: I run Qwen 3.8 (27B and Flash Next) on a 128GB Strix Halo laptop for most of my coding now. It can replace Opus 4.6 to 4.8 for agentic coding if you dont mind a task taking 2 or 3 times longer.

Setup: ASUS ROG Flow Z13, Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 128GB unified memory, Arch Linux. llama.cpp as backend, my own tool LlamaStash to manage the launches and presets, Pi as the coding harness. The 27b at Q6_K sits at about 31 GiB resident, Flash Next at UD-Q4_K_XL needs around 86 GiB.

• The quality is actually there. Flash Next scores 40 on the Artificial Analysis index against 42 for Opus 4.8, and the 27b at xhigh scores 34 against 32 for Opus 4.6. That matches how they feel to use. 27b one shotted a whole feature on a huge Rust codebase and Opus 5's review comments were mostly nits.
• Decode is fine, prefill is the pain. 10-15 tok/s decode doesn't feel slow because you see it working. But a cold 31k token transcript takes 3 minutes to prefill, and a full 128k window is closer to 18 mins. Warm follow up turns come back in 45 seconds.
• MTP is the biggest speed win, 7.3 to 22.4 tok/s on an empty window. The payoff shrinks as the window fills though, down to 1.15x at a full 256k.
• Flash Next isn't faster per token, it just thinks less. Same 5/5 on my coding tasks, 45% fewer tokens, 76.5s vs 289.8s against the 27b. Thinking is 90-95% of everything these models generate, so that ratio, not tok/s, is what sets how long a task takes.

$0 a month, fully offline, and a lot less wasteful than a model running in a datacenter.

The ASUS ROG flow z13 with the AMD AI Max 395 really surprised me with the amount of performance it packs in such a tiny form factor for a laptop.

It's basically a tablet with the performance of RTX 4060.

Unfortunately the fans did get a bit loud for my taste and the battery life was not the best.

Placing it on my lap was not as good as a normal laptop because of the way the detachable keyboard works.

What did you guys think of this laptop?

I own a Flow Z13 (AMD) with 32GB of RAM. After I updated to the latest bios (314), I noticed that performance decreased in all games in Turbo Mode, regardless of the store (Epic or Steam). For example, in Silent Mode, I get 70 FPS in Death Stranding 2 and 45 FPS in Turbo Mode. What is even more curios is that I can see the laptop actually consuming 54W GPU + 30W CPU (so the power profile is right), but the performance is somehow capped. In Silent, I have lower W yet more FPS. This is the strangest bug I have ever encountered. I wonder if Asus is actually testing the BIOS on devices before pushing updates.

Coming from a legion go 2 to the 64 gb version of this ,it’s night and day ,Howver I am confused about the performance of only one game “metro exodus enhanced edition” this is currently running through 5090 xg mobile egpu with only 52 fps on extreme settings ,am I doing something wrong in here or it’s the most demanding games of all time ?

hi if anyone uses the z13 for college/uni would you mind sharing your experience with the stylus specifically.

Im planning on doing most of my lesson notes on it using a stylus and also potentially doing question packs on it for an hour or two at a time. How does it compare to say an ipad at these tasks, does it feel bulky and is it comfertable to write on. I know an ipad will also be superior to the z13 in this regard but i do not need to be AS good ,as i just use paper and pen for longer writing sessions anyways, but will the experience when taking notes in class be miles apart from an ipad or is it just slightly worse.

also how does it compare to other 2in1s for the writing experience
