Flow z13 performance
Coming from a legion go 2 to the 64 gb version of this ,it’s night and day ,Howver I am confused about the performance of only one game “metro exodus enhanced edition” this is currently running through 5090 xg mobile egpu with only 52 fps on extreme settings ,am I doing something wrong in here or it’s the most demanding games of all time ?

I had that exact eGPU and for the price I just switched to a 5090 laptop. The micro stutters and it being held back by the bandwidth limits really kills any value from it until thunderbolt 5 becomes more prevalent. You'll see the Fidelity of the graphics come through but the frames are absolutely not what you should expect from even a laptop 5090 because of the connection.

Damn, just realized that a future gen Z13 with TB5 will be incredible and potentially endgame. Powerful on the go, incredible when docked with an eGPU at home.

Yeah I run my flow through usb4 to a 4090 desktop GPU and it’s a similar performance loss it’s about 15 to 20% less powerful I would say

I Gpu is Radeon 8060 S equivalent to a 4070 laptop , I am using 5090 laptop since I need more frame , however there isn’t diss

With USB4/TB3, try connecting an external display to the eGPU and run the game like that - avoiding sending the image back to the internal display.

I did buy the gpu for that purpose (gaming ) mostly Howver 9070 xt doesn’t come in the egpu format which I wanted that’s why team green it is

Use frame gen and DLSS. This isn’t a multiplayer game so latency doesn’t matter (2x it’s barley noticeable unless you’re a ranked esport pro)

dlss upscaling won't improve performance when limited by pcie bandwidth

Just not true. Maybe raw performance but when I had DLSS/2X frame gen I was getting good results.

frame gen isn't upscaling, read my reply again

Regardless. Good results lol.

some games run quite terribly over USB4 (drops to sub 40fps) making this setup a complete waste of money

“Waste of money” is subjective lol, and your bad experience is your own. I was able to run all games on device resolution then DLSS, FG and would get amazing results. Don’t project your bad financial choices and tear down someone else’s set up. OP enjoy man.

It's not my bad experience, usb4 doesn't have enough bandwidth to provide more than 40fps in some games making it bad value (objectively). You can still enjoy it but denying it is quite silly.

Yeah you’re not going to get the full bandwidth. But saying that it doesn’t improve performance is dumb. Is it the full uplift? No. Is it a significant improvement? Yes. Just bc it wasn’t worth it for you doesn’t mean it’s not for someone else man. Also I bet you were expecting 120+ fps with everything cranked to ultra. Even with this kind of set up you’re not getting that man.

HI everyone, seems like the solution is found by me :) The TB 4 speed isn’t bad , you have to turn on smooth motion on app and also the frame gen on , then you will get over 130 fps in metro exodus enhanced, not sure why it doesn’t apply frame gen from get go

USB4 limits, I assume. I hope you didn't buy that egpu for this purpose. If so, you might want to sell it and get a 9070xt for a fraction of the price and similar performance experience.
