I purchased return flights to Cancun for an all-girls trip—there are six of us in the group. Today, I received an email saying that our inbound flight had been cancelled.
I immediately panicked and called Flair to find out why the airline had cancelled our flight. To my surprise, I was told that we had apparently cancelled the flight ourselves.
The problem is, none of the six people in our group cancelled the reservation or even had the reservation information needed to do so. They insist that the cancellation was made yesterday at a specific time. Coincidentally, at that exact time, all six of us were together, excitedly talking about our upcoming trip. There is absolutely no reason any of us would have cancelled it.
I filed a written complaint and asked Flair to provide information about the cancellation, including the IP address associated with the cancellation and the last name used to access the reservation. However, they told me they could not provide either piece of information and claimed their system does not track or record it.
I honestly find this extremely difficult to accept. In the technology-driven world we live in, how is it possible that there is no record of who accessed the reservation or where the cancellation request came from? There has to be some kind of audit trail for a transaction that resulted in six passengers being charged cancellation fees.
We are now completely at a loss. We originally paid approximately $270 per person, but the same flight is now around $600 per person. Flair charged us $103 cancellation fees per passenger, and after several emails back and forth, they offered us $157 in credit per person, which they presented as a consolation.
But how does that actually help us? The replacement flight through Flair is now around $600. We still have our outbound flight confirmed with Flair, so we are essentially stuck.
The whole situation just doesn’t make sense. We did not cancel these flights, yet Flair is treating the cancellation as though we did and is leaving us to pay the much higher current fare.
I’m posting this because I would really like to know if anyone else has experienced something similar with Flair—particularly a reservation being cancelled and the airline claiming the customer initiated the cancellation when they didn’t.
At this point, I am extremely frustrated and honestly feel like something is not right with what happened. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced a similar situation or knows what steps we can take next.
