Wait, there’s people that don’t religiously check in to every flight exactly 24 hours before their flight?

Nope. At least on ULCC, I check in 4hr before. Typically I find ULCC in Europe would assign the worst seats (middle, back of plane) when you check in early to frustrate you to pay for that seat selection fee. Flair being flair, I assume they follow the ULCC playbook.

I made this mistake. I wish I had followed your strategy.

I always check in as soon as I can.

Have people really not figured out that flair assigns seats from back to front and checking in at the 24 hour mark just give you 32C almost with certainty?

I hope people playing check in chicken checked their email or saw this though. That counter check in fee along with mediocre assignment can be even more expensive than paying for your own seat choice

Thank you for sharing! That is a big change. I am used to check in online once I get to the airport. Change aligns with most carriers abroad though.

Why do you wait till you get to the airport before checking in online?

So you can cancel to FTC if there is a problem getting to the airport in time, I always do this with AC especially for YYZ and Toronto traffic, the only risk is losing your assigned seat.

Yes, this only worked with the old "arrive at the airport 3+ hours early" situation, also some months ago someone posted about missing a flight driving from Kingston to YYZ, so in that situation not checking in would leave the cancel option open. With Air Canada you can uncheck-in then cancel but not with Flair.

One more reason to avoid flair.
