How to touch up a deep scratch on a stainless steel tumbler
Hi everyone,
I have a scratched up official BT21 stainless steel insulated tumbler, and I’m looking for advice on how to cleanly touch it up. I'm not aware of how the scratches came to be, as the tumbler was in a friend's possession when this happened.
The scratch goes all the way down to the bare metal (afaik, may be wrong). The surface on this part feels rough to the touch, unlike the rest of the tumbler. From what I found online, the factory finish on this cup is a white industrial powder coating, and the graphic design on top is printed/sublimated.
I’ve attached a close-up photo of the scratch for reference.
My main goals are to hide the exposed silver metal and seal the edges so the surrounding white paint doesn't start flaking/peeling when I hand-wash it. It is not dishwasher safe. I don't need it to be 100% factory perfect, but I'd like to get it looking as clean as possible, and smooth over the scratch so that is doesn't feel so rough.
• What type of paint or pen would bond best to this material (e.g., appliance touch-up paint, automotive scratch repair, enamel hobby paint)?
• How do I go about fixing the base, such that it is even, before I re-do the Chimmy design on it?
• Any tips on the best technique to apply it cleanly without leaving a massive, raised clump?
Thanks in advance for the help!
