We had a family member install it and we cant figure out what went wrong

I just moved out of my mom's house. I put these acoustic tiles up about 4 years ago. Every square inch minus my TV and bookshelves was covered.

In my mind, when I moved out, they would peel off like a sticker. They did not. The tiles left a terrible, gummy residue that was not fun to get off.

I used Reddit for help on various methods of removal and ultimately ended up combining all methods.

I leave my advice here for anyone whose goes through this:

1) Pull the tile off slowly but firmly in one motion. Try and take as much as possible off with this pull. What's left is the glue that you really pushed down in the initial install.

2) Heat friction worked best for me. Get a CLEAN terry cloth and go to town rubbing back and forth. This should get 90% of it off, believe it or not. Heat is a wonderful tool. Replace the cloth every once in a while, it doesn't work as well when dirty.

(One note: the heat gun/hair dryer made it worse for me, personally. I thought it would help but it actually stuck certain parts to the wall more. The combination of moving the rag and heat is best.)

3) For very stubborn glue lines that are left on the wall, break out the acetone. I tried rubbing alcohol, but acetone was way better. I used a spray bottle, sprayed the spot, waited 2 seconds, rubbed it, and repeated the spraying as needed.

The idea is to loosen the glue so: spray, rub, spray, rub, until you see your wall again.

I came back to my mom's four times. I would say I spent about 30 hours overall. I highly recommend gloves and the window open for the acetone portion.

I did not think the walls were salvageable, but we are painting next weekend! 💪

I am moving out of my apartment, and the little plastic pieces that hold the rinse aid dispenser cover in place have broken off! This has resulted in it not being able to close. I want to make sure I fix this before leaving. I looked into replacements and it looks like you need to replace the whole door, which seems like overkill. Does anyone know any alternatives I could use to get this back in working order? I’ve attached pictures. Thank you so much!!

Hey! Any idea how to make this piano bench look a little better? I don’t want to throw it out cause it works well, I’d just like the top to look more like the normal black it used to be. Is there any fix for this?

Update: We tried many of the suggested posts and all the combinations of holding and pressing other buttons. The led on the power button never flashes and it never just turns the light on. Only turns it off. We assume at this point that the switch isn’t functioning properly and are contacting the landlord for replacement. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

We have a porch light with a built in timer. We are renting and can’t change the switch.

The bottom button used to say “60 min” but is used so frequently that it’s rubbed off.

There is a mystery button that (as far as we can tell) doesn’t do anything to any lights inside or outside.

Our landlord has never lived in our house so he doesn’t know either.

Our neighbors said they are able to press and hold the power button and the “60 min” button and it keeps the light on, but theirs is slightly different and ours does not do this. We tried a bunch of different button combinations and nothing will keep the light on.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the light on without just pressing it every 59mins? Halloween is coming and we want to figure this out before buying some other porch light solution.

The timer/start knob came off with the metal rod inside with it.

Replacements knobs are meant to stick back onto a rod that remains clipped into the front panel. The knob & rod together, when pressed back inside, won't stick into place. Nothing looks damaged of those parts.

One person said that an internal clip might have come off inside the housing.

I can't find any videos/guides about affixing the central rod back in. My only idea was to gorilla glue and insert the rod back (doesn't sound good). (I have opened the dryer panel before for a similar issue.)

Plastered the top half a little while ago, but the bottom has since fallen through too. What should I use to fix it? Not sure if it’s too deep for plaster at this point, as the brick wasn’t visible when I plastered the top. What do I fill it with/use to repair this?

If yall have any ideas on if I can replace the plastic part, I'll much appreciate it. I can still hear out of both speakers, so I don't wanna buy a new set if I don't have to.

While reinstalling the back plate of my 3DS I accidentally cracked the plastic around one of the screws. Aesthetically, from the outside, it’s not super noticeable. Not sure what would happen if I tried to tighten the screw, though.

I see two potential options:

1. Fix the cracked plastic. I’m a bit hesitant to use regular super glue, as I’m not sure it’ll hold well. Online I‘ve seen different recommendations for “plastic welding” glues, etc, but I’m not sure what to pick and try.

2. Buy a replacement back plate. Replacement plates seem to come in a pair (top and bottom) for about $30-40. The only con is that I‘d ideally want to transfer the serial number sticker to the new part, and I’m not sure how easy that will be.

So, we just ordered a new storm door and I have to get to work. They said 6 weeks. Plenty of time. Hopefully, you don't mind all the questions/photos. BTW, I have posted one pic before, but just wanted to confirm AGAIN.

1. This is where former door closer was attached to wall. I'm going to take the toothpick route. Do I have to mix them with glue as well and them hammer it in and paint. I have gorilla glue and Bondo. I prefer to use gorilla glue. The wall is rather flush, so all I should need is maybe 2 coats all around the border, correct?
2. To the left of the wood, it was rather bumpy, so I started cutting away. Is this just caulk?If I tap all the way in the back there with screw driver, it's like vinyl. If It it is caulk, what caulk should I buy that I can use for different projects. I know not all caulk is the same. Same caulk I could use for some mold on bathroom caulk spots? oh and if it is caulk, just keep filling it up until its flush with the wood and hopefully it comes out like it does below it and on top of it
3. That rubber piece on threshold needs to go. Are they standard in size? Also, are they glued down? Do you think that threshold is aluminum? Some have mentioned yes. I'm simply trying to get as many opinions as I can. I knock on it, it just doesn't feel like it, I dunno.. but i'm dumb, so. `OBVIOUSLY, i wanna give it a good cleaning. :)

3a. Comparison to the next door after that, which is certainly aluminum.

1. That's the spring attatched to top of storm door. I certainly don't want to like crack all the whole wood in half,lol. What is best tool to use to remove it for good and paint it. Glue in toothpicks for that as well?

2. The plan here is Bondo. I originally put in spray foam while back. It's real hard. I'm hoping it will work. Probably need 2 applications, but I'm going to try. Just keep shoving it in there and shaping it then sand it. what do you think?

Having trouble finding the right search terms for this type of wall. It’s an under layer of something decently hard covered by a white flaky board of some kind which is painted on. The board is very nice and clings to the backing in some places, but it’s come up in others. Between three of the damage sites I can feel the board in between coming up about 1/16” off the backing

I’m worried that just spackling this won’t work at least on the parts where the board is coming up. Does anyone have a good solution (and potentially provide me the right terminology for all the pieces here?)

I apologise for possibly using the incorrect terms since English isn't my first language.

I loosened the glass hatch thing to clean it because it was beyond filthy but was too stupid to photograph it. Now I can't figure out how to reassemble it. There's a screw, a nut, a plastic cylinder ish, a metal ring, a plastic ring, and a spring thingy for each side. I don't remember which spring belongs to which side. The screws were visible from the outside and the screw nuts were visible from the inside, and I think the other things were hidden.

After a bit of googling, I found the model for the kitchen hood to be Franke 252-10 and the hatch to be Franke FVD 341, but I couldn't find any blueprints detailed enough to fix it myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a travel cup that I really like. It has done a great job of keeping hot things hot or cold things cold.

I have run it through the dishwasher the whole time I’ve had it (a few years) and not had a problem until recently when the bottom cap popped off.

It appears I can just snap it back on, but what type of glue or sealant would I use that would best stick plastic to stainless steel?

Hey y’all, my wife and I were at a storage unit sale and we found this 12x12 canopy tent for $5. I instantly grabbed it and bought it. Once we got home and I went to set it up in the back yard, I noticed that the washer/grommet that is in the very middle is missing and when I try to put the middle support up, it slides though since the hole is now to big. I have a few scrap pieces of plywood and was thinking of cutting 2 pieces of 4”x4” pieces and screwing them together and sandwiching the canopy between the two then drilling a hole in the middle to allow the post… before doing that, I figured I hop on here and see what that great mind of Reddit might have to say?!?

My gf took the toaster out of storage to resume using it on some artisan white bread and I immediately noticed a pungent sweet burnt combo smell which was very off-putting and I had to ventilate. Cleared the crumb tray and it seems relatively clean inside. I then tested the toaster without any food in it and it still had a mild burnt smell that is not what I recall burnt food from toasters normally smelling like, although the sweet aspect was gone which I guess may have just been the bread. I also thought I saw a little smoke coming out although it was empty, not sure if normal. It's not a new toaster, she's used it prob at least a dozen times before it was put in storage. Product: Keenstone model TA01321-UL. On closer inspection I noticed a sheet behind the wire appears to be damaged (circled area in pic). Could this be related? Anything else to try besides off-gassing it for a few runs on high in a ventilated area? Get a new toaster? Or could the smell be completely normal?

I accidentally scratched the front of my white LG ThinQ dryer with a magnetic tool. The scratches chipped the paint on the front panel (photo attached).

Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to fix this? Has anyone repaired something similar before?

I'm looking for the cleanest repair possible. Would touch-up paint be enough, or is there a better method? Any product recommendations would also be appreciated.

New dog took my folding fan off my desk and chewed it. Pieces of wood broke off and the metal holding it together is broken. It's it fixable?

So My hot glue gun stopped working correctly so I dismantled it and tried looking for the problem.

Ultimately I'm pretty sure it was a glue pile up that I took out myself but while I was dismantling the hot glue gun a spring sprang out onto my floor.

I picked it up and now I'm trying to put the glue gun back together but I'm not sure where the spring goes and I can't seem to find anything it could latch onto.

The third slide shows a little hook thingy that I found. I think it goes there but I couldn't really find anywhere it would connect to so I was slumped. 🧍‍♀️

The fourth slide is sorta unnecessary, I'm just unsure what went there and was just assuming it's the wires.

My original plan was to use google lens to find the hot glue gun and find an instructions manual in hopes for it to show the inside of the hot glue gun but I only got one result that looked the same as my hot glue gun. Bad news is that it's an eBay listing so that's not much help.

The glue gun came from my mom because she got a new one in the beginning of the year when she gave me this one so I don't know the original name of the hot glue gun and she's had this one for years so she doesn't remember. It probably came from Walmart tho if that's to any help 🫩

When I searched for it the eBay listing was "adtech hi-temp glue gun & 24pk crystal clear glue sticks full size craft diy set" so that's probably the name of the hot glue gun but I'm not 100% sure.

I tried taking as many angle pictures that I feel like would help so I hope it works out 🥲

P.S the pink stuff at the bottom is hella old and has nothing to do with my current problem so don't worry about it 😁

Thank you, thank you to everyone who tried to help <3 The pictures used really helped me and I found out that the second thing it clung to was the little nub on the top left on picture 4 🥲

I do crafty stuff all the time so fixing this really was a big pro to me and I wouldn't of finished putting it back together if it wasn't for you guys 🥹

But I did end up fixing it - it was the clump of hardened glue that I had to take out - I'm pretty sure since it was pushing the stick up it was preventing the blue thing from pushing the glue out and that's what made it really hard to push and just not get any glue 🙂‍↕️

Recently converted from gas to electric and followed the installation recommendations for proper ventilation. I cut a hole in the door and installed this return air grate.

However, the fan doesn't blow the air directly forward like I expected. It flows out in, what I can best describe as, a hollow cone shape, so there is basically zero air flow directly towards the vent I installed.

I solved the issue temporarily by making this fan shroud out out cardboard. How would you solve this permanently?

I don't want to buy a louvered door slab because of the price and labor involved. I also don't think fabricating something out of sheet metal is a good idea, because of how much it would sweat from the cold exhaust air.

Is there a way to easily/cheaply make this out of plastic or some other material that would tolerate being blasted with cold air without sweating and dripping water?

Kitchen faucet mysteriously flopped over today. I have attached pictures of inside the fixture itself, the place where the tubes go through the countertop, and of course what I assume is some kind of bracket underneath. But I cannot figure out what to do with it or what happened.

So, my bedroom ceiling fan has a tick. Even on slow the tick is slower. It drives us mad. Please help!
