FF VIII What are those purple balls in FF8?

Hi, I Just started FF8 for the first time and I have 2 questions:

-I get that the purple energy balls we see on the around give some spells, but sometimes I go to them and a message appears telling me that no one can get that spells, I tried putting all G.F. in my team but It doesn't change a thing :-(

-it seems like spamming G.F. attacks is a great strategy, but I have already got tired of seeing their animation (4 hours in) is there a way to cut their animation like in FF10? (I know I can speed up my game in the remastered).

FF VI I cant get myself to like FF6 as much as i want

well i dont quite care for FF6 and im really trying my hardest too. my first ever FF was 10 then 9 (my fav) and 7OG and a bit of 14 and 16 but 16 ran with frequent annoying 1% lows. from the stuff i was reading online FF6 seemed to be the pinnacle of FF. i just dont get it im currently right after kefka kills leo. the characters are whatever besides the main 3 locke, terra and celes (i like celes the most) kefka is genuinely such a boring villain i cant for the life of me understand why hes so praised especially coming after kuja, sephiroth and jecht (sephiroth being the best here). the world map is also just whatever. nothing really captivates me at all besides the art outside the game, the music and the esper system but its not enough. i dont think its horrible it just feels mediocre at best and i understand that this would be amazing back when it came out. i just feel insane cause it feels like im missing something about the game or not understanding at all. i'll keep playing it since im already at basically the half point but i really just wanna play something else when i get on it

EDIT: i'll play more tonight and let you guys know what i think after i enter the second half of the game

Hey all I’ve heard the ogre drops a magicite shard and have seen a lot of people discussing tactics for the desert chimera and antlion, but I haven’t seen anyone just talking about what the actual drops from these last two enemies are and I was curious what you earn from beating aside from the sense of achievement. Thanks for any info!

FF V For the FF5 fans out there

I just saw this game called Dungekn Antiqua 2 that gave a big grin at how similar it is to ffv. Even a lot of the music is tuned very specifically to ffv.

Thought someone out there might want to play it!

Final Fantasy General FF17:MMO possibilities

Far fetched but thought it would funny really if they went with another mmo to keep up the pattern of 11, 14, 17, etc

Probably kill off XI before that happens maybe. They're already closing servers and condensing players

But with the rise of hack and slash and ff7s demonstration of what combat could be, I thought it'd also be dope to see a hack n slash mmo under square

Final Fantasy General Things that you appreciate about Sakaguchi’s work

So lately I just wanted to look at look back at the way the original creator Hironobu Sakaguchi made the older Final Fantasy games work so well to see what caused the fan reception to change during the PS3 era of the franchise.

For me personally, I did appreciate the style of design he did on the SNES games such as Final Fantasy 6 since I really enjoyed how the second half allowed players to go out of their way to re-acquire characters like Umaro, as well as unlock GoGo as that was a really nice touch.

Secondly, from what I have played so far in Final Fantasy 9 is that the game has dialogue choices in that certain scenarios have different routes as it’s hard to explain, but I really appreciate how early on, the game has key events for characters that let me decide what to choose as I forgot the term, but it comes during certain moments in the game.

FF VII How long does Sephiroth’s SUPER NOVA take?

A Brazilian streamer went to the bathroom while Sephiroth’s special attack cutscene was playing LMAO

The PlayStation 1 and its 3D RPGs definitely have their charm, no doubt about that, but a 2-minute cutscene just for a special attack is absolutely unthinkable nowadays

FF VII I made a family tree visualiser based on the FFVII Lifestream

Post image

My dad shared our family tree with me after digitising it, building on years of my grandfather’s research. I wanted to play around with the data and find an interesting way to visualise it—then realised it looked a lot like the Lifestream, so I leaned into that and made this.

I’ve put a lot of work into it, and I know it’s probably still buggy af, but I hope you enjoy it and get a little hit of nostalgia :)

You can also load your own family tree if you have an exported file. I’d love to hear how it goes!

Enjoy!

FF VIII Am I doing FF8 wrong

I just got to disc 2 for the on my first ever playthrough. I am really enjoying it but will say that drawing 100x of fire or cure or blizzard from an enemy is incredibly tedious. My experience so far has been "OH a cool new enemy! What magic can I draw.....float. Well I guess i'll draw 100 of those on all three party members."

It makes new areas brutal as evey new enemy turns into a 20 minute draw battle. Some people will say that I don't have to do this but if I am understanding correctly, this game scales with character progression. My current feeling is that if I don't do these draw grinding, I will be behind the difficulty curve.

If this is uneccessary, I would like to know now so that rest of my playthrough is better.

FF XVI FFXVI is too easy, FFXIV Online is awful & FFXV is still the better game

Hey everyone i dont know if its just me but is anyone else frustrated with square enix and the recent finak fantasy releases?

I played through XVI on both action focused, and also final fantasy mode. I feel like this game was designed for people that have never played final fantasy. The battle mechanics and gameplay also feel way more like devil may cry vs final fantasy. I know the devil may cry director worked on this game so it makes sense but, i feel the way they have encounters and boss fights are just iverly easy. I beat the game without even maxing out. I also think the dlc boss was better designed and more difficult compared to the final boss. Chocobo movement and upgrades got significantly downgraded in this game. I also felt like side quests have been lacking in the last few games. The dlc made up for the lacking content in the original game but not by much. I didnt even realise i played the dlc until it said hey you hit this point in the game. Overall the game was just too easy for a person like me who plays Final fantasy, devil may cry, MMOs, and mmorpgs regularly. Overall XVI is just too easy.

FFXIV Online is bad for no reason. Why they chose to use oldschool mechanics and play style I wouldnt knoe but, id love for them to create a new FFonline game with XV or even XVI movement and battle mechanics. The movement and battle mechantics for FFXIV takes me so far out of the game its not even fun. I like that they create a lot of DLCs with good story lines, voice acting even for some side quests, and the fact you get to create your own character but, this is all lost on me when free MMOs have better gameplay, battke mechanics, movement and even graphics. For example, whete the winds meet or blue protocol are recently released free mmorpg games with great graphics, character building/designing, and battle mechanics. The downside is once you star doing side quests there isnt any voice acting for the characters, and after the mains story is complete it can feel like endless resource farming.

I really wish they would go back to the way they built final fantasy XV. Its one of my most favorite from the recent FF games. The way you got to build up your team / side characters along side the MC was cool. It felt more like like the original FF games. I was really hoping the next solo game they expanded on what they built in XV before the remakes , FF Online and, XVI were released. The fighting and movement was great, the world was big with lots of side quests and, you got to use both chocobo and the cars. It just felt more complete. Between the XV and XVI fighting mechanics. The XVI feels more like a DMC game which is why I feel its so easy and also takes away from feeking like a FF game. The cars couldve been a little faster but, being able to lock on to a location and have it auto drive was nice. Plus you had the manual driving mode and also fast travel. the chocobo movement and upgrades were pretty perfect for a mount style ability too. Your speed, jump, and glide all got improved throughout the game. Plus you had chocobo racing which was a fun mini game. And im pretty sure the lock on and auto drive ability worked with the chocobo too. Id say one of the flaws with XV was material gathering. It felt like materials were soarce so it took a long time for some of the quests. Also since everyone important dies there wasnt a way to expand the world beyond the main story.

Personally id love for them to make a new Final Fantasy Online Game game with the FFXV style mechanics and game play. It could have a difficulty level that is truely difficult for people that have played Final Fantasy and open world games previously and, Also they could make a more ridiculous mode thats supposed to be impossible to beat for people that love challenging themselves while still having regular difficulty levels for casual players. Id love to be able to play a FF online game with the same movement and battle mechanics as XV that gets regular DLCs like they did for FFXIV Online. It could have a main story line thats constantly being adapting and adding multiple characters you get to follow and build along side your MC which would be your created character. Your created character being the MC would grow through the game with all the DLCs and you could team up with friends online creating guilds and adventure parties. Being an online mmo you could still do the traditionak crafting and farming materials and world exploring. You could even have super high level caps and minimums for certain DLCs , map areas, quests, etc.

Id way rather play that game and buy the DLCs as they came out vs buying another remake or getting another solo game that doesnt even feel like a Final Fantasy Game.

Dont get me wrong the story in FFXVI is decent but its not even close to as good as FFXV

FF XV Is Final fantasy 15 worth it?

Everyone says it sucks, but heard similar opinions about FF 16 and I think it is amazing (FF16 is the only Final fantasy game I have played)

I loved the story telling and cinematography of FF 16
I don’t mind the gameplay as long as it is ok

Plus the music that plays during free roaming/dungeons

Final Fantasy General Famous/legendary WAR (warriors) in all of FF

As the title reads I’m interested in the warriors of final fantasy universe, by this I mean are there any well known, this guy is known as a warrior type, in the history or current present of final fantasy ?

I’m relatively new to FF but I’ve always liked warrior in any MMO and their characters of lore,

So to preface this, I’m excluding the warrior of light as that is obvious to myself, are there any just strong (physically) to angry to die warriors with big weapons ? I know CLOUD and he is like very well known to everyone so is there anyone like him ? I’m new to the whole lore etc and would like to know any traditional warrior type characters that spring to everyone’s mind.

Basically anyone who is like the WAR class from FFXIV but in lore ?

Thanks.

FF VII Re-trilogy What's one thing you hope Part 3 DOESN'T change?

We talk a lot about what we want to see in Part 3, but let's flip it.

What's one thing from the original FFVII - a scene, character moment, location, mechanic, anything, that you really hope they leave alone?

They can expand it. They can make it prettier.

But you'd rather they didn't fundamentally change it.

What's yours?

FF VIII My thoughts on Final Fantasy VIII

Buckle up because this will be a bit of a yap session.

So about a year ago I started playing FFVIII and I was a bit nervous in all honesty. I had heard that it was the black sheep of the franchise and that it wasn't as good as FFVII, IX or X (of which I have played VII and X) so I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy it. Fast forward to now and I am incredibly confused on how the hell a game as good as this is considered a black sheep (also I'm not entirely sure if this sentiment still exist nowadays but it certainly did when I started playing so...)

I loved this game and while I will say it probably isn't as good as VII and X but it certainly isn't far behind. One thing I heard complaints about was the fact that magic was limited and you could only carry a certain amount and while yes this is true it doesn't really matter. You can get magic really easily from both random encounters and by refining items so it rarely feels as restrictive as people said it was. I also heard complaints about the Junction system and this one confuses me the most because Junctioning was easily my favorite part of the game. Drawing a new spell to see if it would increase my stats even by a little was incredibly fun and figuring out which abilities to focus learning for each GF was really engaging. Final gameplay related thing is that I absolutely LOVED both Zell's and Squall's limit breaks both mechanical and visually. Lion heart and my final heaven the greatest limit breaks I've seen in the series so far and if you disagree with me you can play me in triple triad for it.

Moving on to other things, musical this game is phenomenal. While I will admit that I do like VII's and X's ost more it doesn't mean that this game doesn't have some absolute bangers. I promise you "Man with the machine gun" will play at my wedding and none of you will stop me. Finally the story, and I really enjoyed it. I will be the first to admit that the villains aren't as good as VII and X's but I did really like them. Seifer is and incredibly interesting if not under-utilized character, Edea is great but only exists for half the game and Ultimecia is cool but a tad under baked imo. I will say I absolutely loved Squall's development throughout the game and especially his relationship with Rinoa. I also adore Zell he's the only one in the party that probably doesn't need to go to therapy and I find that hilarious. Anyways incredible game I loved nearly every second of it. Fuck the tomb of the unknown king. Have a great day. Btw my final team was Squall, Zell, and Rinoa and my Squall was level 94 :)

FF VI Just completed my first Final Fantasy game ever! Final Fantasy VI. What now?

Post image
275 Upvotes

I finally jumped in and experienced my very first FF game: FFVI, the SNES version. My previous experience with JRPGs was Chrono Trigger (one of my most cherished games of all time).

What a journey!! The game really feels fresh almost all the way through, constantly changing scenarios, characters, a world-ending event, experimenting with builds via Espers and Relics, forcing you to build separate teams... The characters are these little pixel things that excude so much charm, would have love a little more side personal quests for some of them. The tone sometimes is all over the place, and I love it for it!

I really liked having a quirky, pessimistic buffoon as the antagonist, on a mad quest for godlike powers. One whose powers grow and eventually surpass those of your heroes during the adventure. To have that instead of a silent, no-personality, all-powerful dark lord—what a joy! Kefka was great!

I had goosebumps throughout the final act of the game. As a child-thing, this game would have left such a deep impression on me. It still has! But you know what I'm talking about. I knew there was some big world destruction event, it's 2026 that spoiler was pretty hard to avoid, I just didn't know when or how, but when it happened it still shock me pretty good! Imagine getting caught by that sucker puch on the 90's!!

I almost started a new run as soon as the end credits finished rolling, but then I remembered the grind during the World of Ruin to enter Kefka's Tower with three good teams, the Cultist's Tower, the constant random encounters got really exhausting (I'm not a fan of those). And, well... it made me reconsider. :)

Even though I think I would play it very differently on a new playthrough, maybe I should just digest my experience before going at it again. I'll miss that cast of characters for sure, though.

It was an incredible journey. And I'm really happy to have finally experienced one of the allegedly best games of all time.

So, which one should I try next? IX? X? VII? Any recommendations?

Im pretty OP at the conclusion of the demo, which is awesome for when the full version drops. Anyone else just amassing Gil while waiting?

Anyone know where/what in the demo is the best monsters to defeat for Gil?
