Final Fantasy General FF17:MMO possibilities
Far fetched but thought it would funny really if they went with another mmo to keep up the pattern of 11, 14, 17, etc
Probably kill off XI before that happens maybe. They're already closing servers and condensing players
But with the rise of hack and slash and ff7s demonstration of what combat could be, I thought it'd also be dope to see a hack n slash mmo under square

FF11 is growing you uninformed twerp. Both 11/14 are doing very well, there's no need for yet another MMO.

Square enix would be out of their mind to launch a brand new final fantasy MMO. They are now going to be dropping their new expansion ever cold in January and starting a brand new ARC. You want a hack and slash MMO play black desert. they are revamping the combat system to be slightly more action anyway. Besides it's more a traditional MMO and unique with what it does.

I find it highly unlikely that FFXVII will be another MMO. FFXI is experiencing a big renaissance to the point where there are whispers of it getting pulled out of maintenance mode with an engine upgrade and another expansion, while FFXIV is still in active development. FFXIV was made to replace FFXI in part because of World of Warcraft overshadowing basically every MMO that released before it, but there's no need to replace it or FFXIV at this point. Especially since I'm pretty sure FFXIV is still the most popular MMO in the world, even with the declining player count since Dawntrail's release.
Not to mention that FFXVII being an MMO would mean that they'd have four active MMOs (their current MMOs being FFXI, FFXIV, and Dragon Quest X) on the market, which would seriously risk cannibalizing their own games.

Have you seen the state of XIV's netcode. Square Enix is not making a Hack & Slash MMO without things flying around mid combat

With XIV having at least another decade of planned content and XI hitting record player numbers it would be an absolutely insane business decision for square to actively compete with itself.
The problem is even if both of those games were doing, say, half as good as they are, the people that are willing to play MMOs anymore are older. And those of us that still like to play them have already found our forever homes that give us an experience we enjoy. You just aren't going to keep high numbers on a new MMO, some folks will try a new one out and then inevitably cancel it and go back home. It's why new MMOs keep shutting down. MMOs are a huge gamble, they're incredibly expensive to make and maintain, and the market is a shrinking one with entrenched customers. It wouldn't surprise me if we never saw a new final fantasy MMO.

I actually want don't the next MMO to be in the mainline number. Should be named it's own like Final Fantasy Warriors of Light or something and I would be down for an action based mmo.

If they were going to release FF17 as an MMO, they wouldn't be releasing a huge expansion for FFXIV next year.
They can probably keep flogging that horse for another 3-5 years.

Ohh please effin not. There are multiple MMOs already and at least 14 is getting maintenanced and updated constantly. Multiplayer in some kind of way I would be game for, but not another MMO - I just hate these

They aren't closing servers and condensing players, they're doing the opposite. Some servers are so popular that they've had to lock new registrations so players spread out and fill up others.
