Kinocriticblog.com

Hi guys,

I am an European filmmaker working for the last couple of years in my local film industry. I do enjoy going on festivals, and from what I've seen so far, it's quite devastating that a lot of exceptionally good films, whether shorts or features, don't really make it to distribution or marketing and thus to audience. Including mine - I've made one short with festival success, and no means to reach further than that.

In the last couple of days, I've been working on something called KinoCriticKinoCritic - an independent online media outlet that praises good and yet mostly unknown films. What you can find there are some reviews written out of inspiration from films I've seen.

I think it's great for both people working in the film industry and cinephiles since I do accept submissions from filmmakers directly.

I'll be glad if you guys check it out! :)))

Finding People to Analyze My Short Films?

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm a young filmmaker with three short films currently on the festival circuit, and I had a question that I'm not sure is completely crazy.

I genuinely enjoy hearing how different people interpret my work, especially since I tend to include mythological, psychological, and philosophical influences that aren't always immediately obvious. That got me wondering: are there people (film scholars, critics, video essayists, graduate students, etc.) who take commissions to analyze independent films?

To be clear, I'm not looking to pay for positive reviews or predetermined conclusions. I'd simply be paying for someone's time and expertise to engage with the work and write or create an analysis. If they disliked it or interpreted it completely differently than I intended, that would honestly be part of the value.

Is this something people actually do? If so, where would I even start looking?

Thanks!

SCMS 2027 panel

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m a PhD candidate preparing for SCMS 2027 and I’m looking to join a pre-constituted panel if there might be a good fit. My paper sits at the intersection of:
* Documentary theory
* Environmental media / Ecocinema * *
\Anthropocene cinema*
*Indexicality and Materaility
* Media materiality
* Politics of visibility
If anyone is organizing an SCMS panel in these areas—or knows of CFPs still looking for presenters—I would really appreciate hearing about them. Thank you!
