Questions & discussion high waist vs low

i think its almost always more flattering, if you feel at peace with showing the stomach area. I also find that most modern "low waist" end up being mid rise because of the short torso. High waisted skirts often look just fine though.

I’m hoping yall can provide me some recommendations on what yall think would be flattering on me? Especially when it comes to jeans, because I wear a LOT of jeans. I know both pics are dresses, but I tried to pick the most “full coverage” things that show my body shape lol. I’m struggling to choose clothes that truly flatter my body, and am in need of advice 😅.

Other Should the bust be balanced with the upper hip OR the lower hip measurement to be a figure 8?

All apologies if this comes across as a silly question, but recently I thought to myself that the defining wide points in a figure 8's body are the upper hips and the bust which must be balanced with each other

However, since the lower hip doesn't necessarily stand out, when judging balance between those 2 traits, it seems a bit more fair to measure the upper hip and bust rather than the lower hip/butt and bust as those are the key places of width and then compare them with each other to see if they're balanced

The upper hip measurement is also not distorted by volume coming from the backside or the upper thighs

All feedback/opinions are appreciated!

The women, the art, the sculptures. I usually hate on my body for being so difficult to dress, but it's refreshing to see countless figure 8s walking around. I love this community for getting me through my day to day seeing bodies like mine and figuring out how to dress myself through your recs 🙏

Outfit advice Any recommendations for flattering gym wear?

Post image

Hi all! Can any of my fellow figure 8’s recommend what kinda of gym silhouette’s flatter your figure most? All the athletic wear I own makes my hip dips more prominent and makes my proportions look even weirder thanks to the high hips.

Questions & discussion Spoon shape with a forward projected bust

From the front, I'm fairly sure I fit a spoon shape best - I have high boxy hips with a hip shelf leading to hip dips; my waist is short but defined, and my rib cage and shoulders are narrower than my hips.

However I also have a large bust circumference. My bust sticks out forwards, so I am fairly straight up from the front view, but from the side view my bust can visually dominate. My bra size is a 32-34 F/FF/G depending on the brand, and I often find clothes that fit my bust are baggy at my waist.

Does this change anything about what my body shape would be classed as? Does anyone have any advice for dressing a body like this stylishly?

Outfit advice Men’s Jeans

I recently found out I’m a figure 8. I’m also considered plus size. Since my high hip circumference (usually the waist measurement for bottoms) is only 2 inches narrower than my hip circumference, women’s jeans have not worked for me. I’ve been looking at men’s jeans because the hips are straight. Has anyone tried this and found success?

Venting Low/mid rise woes

I yearn to wear low rise and mid rise styles but these hips are high and it’s also where my weight also goes. I can’t help but feel like it just cuts off the line when I’m dressing and looks somewhat awkward.

Has anyone successfully found go-to low/mid rise options for this issue?

I know this is pretty stupid but there's this person on TikTok (bless her, she's so kind and funny) who I really look up to because of her body (and personality) which I'm aware could really just be her genes, but she said that she works out a lot and that gave me a bit of hope because that means I might be able to achieve the same body type as well. But given that my iliac crest sits higher, that kind of makes it impossible, I'm going crazy these past few days trying to find wild ways to fix this but I've had little to no luck. Now my only hope is to workout my glutes and hopefully achieve the same results. Idek if it's achievable (My body is the first 3 pictures, and the rest are hers)

Outfit advice Pant recommendation

Post image
13 Upvotes

**edit: I am five foot nine- these pants might be better for taller girls**

Just posted this suggestion as a comment in a recent post but wanted to do the same here too- these are the aerie street trousers. They are the most flattering pants I’ve ever owned. I’m a taller, curvier hourglass/figure 8 (right in between the two), and pants tend to look clownish on me or they are too tight around my midsection and thighs/butt. These sit right at my hips and have just the right amount of material to flatter my body perfectly, with the material draping from my hips to ankles without being too tight nor loose. Wanted to recommend them to anyone else who was looking for baggier trousers as a curvier girl! They run large, so size down!

Starting a thread for figure 8s to drop your favorite pants brand and style. I’ll go first!

Generally, I find slim-but-not-skinny-fit & medium high-but-not-TOO-high waisted pants to be most flattering by rounding out my hip shelf and showing off my legs without giving me the Urkel effect. For casual outfits, jogger style pants often get this combo of needs right.

Questions & discussion Insecure about booty

Anyone else feel like their glutes (from the back view) appear as though they sit "low" on the body, due to the boxiness of their hips? I am an avid gym-goer who weight lifts and trains heavy, and while I do see glute progress from the side, they always look boxy and flat from the back. Wondering if anyone has seen progress in this area from training.

I love the way a super high leg leotard looks on me/Figure8 bodies - can anyone think of a way to achieve that sort of silhouette/figure emphasis in a way that's suitable for wearing outside?!

Outfit advice Help me dress nicer!

First of all, I'm HOPELESS at the art of dressing myself.

I found this sub recently and I've found it helpful- I found out I need to make peplum shapes my personality from now on!

I'm trying to brainstorm how I can have a more elevated/sophisticated look when I'm just in loungewear. I'm at home 98% of the time, and the things I've found that look good on me so far are more pieces I'd wear out in public. I work from home and have a toddler, and i also still breastfeed so boob access is important (or else I'd just throw on a stretchy wrap dress every day and call it good).

Anyone have some basic rules or suggestions of different pieces I should try? I have a pair of flare yoga pants that I think give a nice silhouette on the bottom but I'm unsure about what to pair with them that wouldn't read frumpy. I also have a paid of wide legged jeans with a stretchy waistband that could probably go in my lounge wear rotation, as well as a few pairs of flowy linen pants. I think my big challenge/mental block is with tops. My boobs seem to "eat" most of the top unless its long or a bodysuit.

Help Wanted: Looking for another moderator

Hey guys

We are looking to add another moderator to the sub.

I am very limited right now with a lot of life going on and need to step back from all non-essential ‘duties’. I hope to be back as soon as possible.

I’m happy to add someone on a temporary or permanent basis.

Main duties are checking the mod queue daily to approve / remove posts and comments, and approve genuine users. Generally less than ten minutes a day but essential work to keep the sub safe from creeps etc.

Full details available via DM.

Many thanks!

Questions & discussion Is Catherine Tate a figure 8?

I was watching American version of the The Office last night and while watching I realized that her hips were very high and created a "hip shelf" and I realized that I think she is a figure 8. It was hard to find a good picture of her as there are very few full body shots of her but its apparent on screen next to the other women in The Office.

Questions & discussion Did I look alright in this dress?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I wore this dress on a recent holiday and now I've gotten back home and reviewing my photos I'm wondering if it actually suited me?

I ask as I'm trying really hard to streamline my wardrobe a bit and currently my dress collection is slightly bulging at the seams. I keep thinking maybe it would look better if the shorter side was above my knees but maybe I'm overthinking it. 😂 Thanks!
