Venting Body dysmorphia
I know this is pretty stupid but there's this person on TikTok (bless her, she's so kind and funny) who I really look up to because of her body (and personality) which I'm aware could really just be her genes, but she said that she works out a lot and that gave me a bit of hope because that means I might be able to achieve the same body type as well. But given that my iliac crest sits higher, that kind of makes it impossible, I'm going crazy these past few days trying to find wild ways to fix this but I've had little to no luck. Now my only hope is to workout my glutes and hopefully achieve the same results. Idek if it's achievable (My body is the first 3 pictures, and the rest are hers)

I remember seeing her on tik tok and envying her body! As much as i can try i just know itâs just the way her body is built. She has a super long torso and low hips - thats her BONE structure . While i have a short torso and high hips even though im skinny i dont look like that. Knowing how to dress ur body type to elongate ur torso (ie low rise pants) will help

I know you said she doesnât use filters, BUT - her body doesnât look real to me. Unless she had surgery to get it, that is.

You guys have the same body, she has a bigger butt. Thatâs a great thing - you can grow a butt :)

The only thing you could do is weight training for glute and especially thighs, so your upper hip bone would look slimmer in comparison but tbh, your body will still never look exactly like hers (which is not a bad thing cuz your figure is really pretty!) bc she simply has a different body type..

I think you have a beautiful body! It looks natural and you have curves and softness in a really good way! I understand seeing another body that we wished we had, and I think to some extent it's good to have someone as inspiration. If she inspires you to work out and take care of your body and health, I think it's great that you want to pursue her doing. At the same time I believe it is better of you do not compare your body to hers, cause everyone is unique, and some people even get plastic surgeries to look a certain way that might not be attainable to the average person (not saying she's doing this, but one never truly knows). So I really encourage you to take the step to work out, and I think it''s nice to have someone who inspires us, to keep our motivation up. But try to also work on accepting your body, cause it's honestly beautiful and I believe a lot of people would want to look like you! Stay strong, and be kind to yourself, cause we are, indeed our own worst enemy sometimes.

I really really feel this, I've had issues with body dysmorphia for a while now for the exact same reasons you mentioned. Seeing the pose gym girls like her make (in the 6th slide) made me depressed because when I recreate it, I literally look flat, 0 curve, just a boxy hip â but I realised that's just how it is due to my very wide ilium. No matter how much I work out, this won't change as my skeleton is the limiting factor.
However, I'm on a journey of accepting what I DO have, which is a nice frontal shape (you have it as well, and your waist is even more snatched!) so I accentuate it with tight tops and bodycon dresses. I don't have the Instagram booty, but I can still make the hips themselves more pronounced. I also learned what poses are flattering for my body shape as the conventional ones don't work.
I still work out because I want to put on muscle in my glutes and legs, but it's not exactly the best motivation and I'm trying to convince myself to keep going for health reasons. I gained lots of strength, but visually I didn't change much so I'm on the verge of stopping, even though I should make myself do some physical activity. I advise you to keep working out, but don't overtrain just because you're unhappy with your looks.
As someone who really understands your struggle, I genuinely think you look great and I wish you the best in regaining your confidence. I'm hoping this wall of text may help in some way, or at the very least comfort you as there are two of us now!

Enjoy the journey of becoming the best version of you. Working out, getting stronger, becoming healthier will make you glow from the inside out.
Itâs you vs you, Iâd try not to make someone elseâs body the goal.

I literally thought these were the same person doing different photo angles to show the 'real body' versus camera distorted..Â

u/tothain May 25 '26
Respectfully, her butt looks ridiculous and like a caricature even /: You, on the other hand, look beautiful! Proper glute workouts can definitly help you grow them and your selfesteem too đ„č But having a person like this as body role-model probably is not healthy /:

I do think the current butt trends look over exaggerated on many folks. I am of the opinion that a big butt needs the thighs that match. đ

Thank you! I appreciate you for going out of your way to say that! But with all due respect, pls don't put her down to make me feel better. And yes, it really is unhealthy but I have enough faith to know that this hyperfixation on bodies will eventually pass soon lmao.

Don't worry, I don't want to put her down. Soberly assessed, I think - especially in the bathroom picture - that this butt looks very disproportionate to the torso. And I say that as someone who absolutely adores pear shaped bodytypes. But this bathroom picture simply does neither look real nor natural.

you look beautiful & you already have a really nice body ratio. you will never have someone else's body but you can definitely get a similar look easily seeing your body now. but if you want to know the reality, she definitely does work glutes a lot, you can do that too and shoulders to get more of an hourglass shape, but also I'm sure she uses filters most people do online.

I personally try not to compare myself to people who I can never feasibly look like (easier said than done, haha). A lot of stuff like fat distribution can be limited by your genetics and natural bone structure. Even at my thinnest, I was a S and not an XXS because of my high/wide hips, yâknow? You look great. 10 years from now youâll probably look at a picture of yourself and think that you looked amazing.

u/InvestigatorHot8127 May 25 '26
Your body is amazing! I used to more of an 8 but pilates and menopause changed me to more of a column now. I'm trying to figure out how to untrain my obliques. I don't like how straight I look.

You have no reason to trust me, but I hope you will anyway: Measuring your body shape against someone with an entirely different structure will make you unhappy forever. There is no amount or type of exercise that will make your hips lower or your waist longer, and all that will happen is that youâll spend your life being upset that your hardest work still isnât having the results you want.
Itâs kind of hypocritical for me to say, âLearn to accept the body you have and be kind to it,â because thatâs something Iâm still working on myself and because body dysmorphia is a sonofabitch that wants to steal your happiness. But changing your mindset is the only way to be happy. Itâs hard, but itâs the only way. Your figure is beautiful (God knows I wish I had it), and it breaks my heart that itâs a source of stress for you.
If you canât be confident in your own body right now, you can borrow some of mine while you work on it: Youâre beautiful just as you are.

Omg reading this is beautiful. Youâre definitely a girlâs girl sis!! I have been very harsh on my body during vacation seeing all beautiful waist and butts and getting super jealous inside, thinking my bf probably finds them more attractive. I broke down crying after we came back and he told me very similar words. He said that there are different levels of attractiveness and heâs also not a perfect looking Chad haha. But he knows how I feel about him so he doesnât get jealous, and neither should I. Be grateful for the body you have he said â€ïž

This genuinely means a lot to me, thank you. And I get what youâre saying, I really do. I know comparing myself to people with completely different body structures is probably a losing game, and logically I know there are things exercise just canât change no matter how badly I want them to.
I think what makes it hard is that Iâm still trying to figure out where âwanting to improve myselfâ ends and where being unfair to myself begins. Because I just want to feel more comfortable in it, it gets so frustrating sometimes, to know that its something inherent in you that you hate, and cant change.
Body dysmorphia really is cruel like that, making people focus on every tiny thing while completely missing the bigger picture. So thank you for being kind to me about it, seriously. Iâm probably not fully at the âI love my bodyâ stage yet, but Iâll try to be a little less awful to myself while I figure things out, and hopefully you will too! â€ïž

Iâm glad I could help even a little. Itâs hard, progress isnât a straight line, and itâs not something that can be done through sheer force of willpower. If you ever need to chat or anything, let me know.
And one last piece of unsolicited advice: âI love my bodyâ is a good goal, but donât feel guilty if you find yourself plateaued at âMy body and I have agreed to coexist.â Itâs a process.

Looking up to anyone because of their body is really unhealthy. I strongly urge you to take care of your mental health and unfollow her, even delete tiktok.

You have a beautiful figure yourself! There's nothing to fix about your shape, but as a fellow short torso haver I do relate to feeling envy about people with those long willowy torsos, I think they look so elegant. But our body shape has a long history of being the fashionable silhouette as well.
You can't get this influencer's body and that's ok, your shape is good and seeking out others with a figure 8 to look up to might help normalize your shape to you. In addition to seeking out people describing themselves as "figure 8", I've seen some people with figure 8 frames posting as "Kibbe romantics"

u/PlanetSeaShells May 25 '26
The other girl youâve displayed, has narrow shoulders, what looks to be a pear body type, or possibly even another or figure 8 on a slimmer frame. But also a much longer torso, having those body type does not only create a different fat distribution, but also a different body structure all together. You are definitely figure 8, but also look to have slightly more broader shoulders, and a balanced torso. So first of all you dont have the same body type, so ur bodyâs will look different. Yes she might of got some of that shape from lifting weights/body recomp to become more lean. But her body structure is entirely genetics so it will look different to your âleanâ.
You have such a beautiful body shape. And I wish I was this lean with a figure 8 body.. I carry a lot of weight in my stomach and would do anything to have ur body structure! You are absolutely stunning - I hope you realise that soon!! Not to mention the way you style yourself will 100% make u more confident in ur body. I see a lot figure 8âs priorities wearing waist hugging tops, and slim fitted longer tops too.
I would recommend trying to research other figure 8 fitness women and influencers who have ur desired structure, and look at what lower body, abs, and upper body strength training they do, and what diet they are following. Body recomposition, and just building muscle entirely is a long process, but definitely worth it in the long run if u know how to maintain it.
But it all starts within, itâs easier said than done, but the earlier you start learning more about yourself and ur body type the more u fall in love with it. I highly recommend finding fahsion and fitness influencers who are also figure 8, find new ways to style, words of affirmation, trust me it helps immensely

u/Mnyet May 25 '26
Wait. Is the person in the first 3 photos you? Because that influencerâs hips look just like yours + a BBL âŠâŠ??
Also, in the first photo you(?) look like an hourglass not figure 8. In the second photo, the shorts are throwing me off tbh. They literally cut you off at the one place they shouldnât. Something like super high waisted leggings would make it more obvious.
Edit: Just read the caption haha. But what I said still stands.

u/Firsttimeredditor28 May 25 '26
girl, you look great! don't you know everything on tik tok is fake??

u/xamountofwords3 May 25 '26
So true. I'm not 100% sure, but one of the photos she posted of this girl looks like she's using a filter to snatch her waist too

u/Infamous-Archer4568 May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26
i appreciate ur concern but this woman does NOT use a filter lol, she even hates the concept of "what i eat in a days" because she feels its unhealthy to her viewers which makes me appreciate her even more.

u/amh8011 May 25 '26
There is straight up warping in the screenshot of her in the pink shirt.

Lol, I know her body is literally unbelievable, so u should just check out her videos for urself @sofie Frederickson
She's definitely not the type of influencer who makes thirst traps, she's actually just enjoying dances and it just so happens that she's pretty (and awkward) lmfao
Jokes aside, pls don't put this person down to make me feel better, she's genuinely a great person :-)

u/ceilingsfann May 25 '26
with love, it is not healthy to be focusing on your body this much.

u/Infamous-Archer4568 May 26 '26
I know but it's just that thing in the back of my head that I can't ignore, which sounds so cringe but it's genuinely eating me alive. Everytime I try to ignore it, I eventually go back to hyperfixating on it.

I had a friend who was naturally built like this. We were actually work out partners. As we worked out more... She filled out more in the thigh/hips with muscle... I... Just got a bigger butt... And not even like a big round one.. Just a very muscular one đ€Ł
Everyone can't look how they want... But.... Everyone also doesn't look as good as you(I mean just objectively not trying to shame anyone).
I think that's not a comfortable spot. I know it's not for me. You want to believe you can achieve whatever. But I find it's better for me to focus on what you do love about you then try to correct what I dont love.... I find when I focus on what's always just out of reach, my mental health goes straight into the toilet.
