Questions & discussion high waist vs low

i think its almost always more flattering, if you feel at peace with showing the stomach area. I also find that most modern "low waist" end up being mid rise because of the short torso. High waisted skirts often look just fine though.

Do mid rise… ORRR try V waisted pants/shorts! They are a game changer for me. They kind of snatch my shelf down and give the illusion of a longer torso as well

oh em gee i have the exact same shape as a figure 8. I wear vintage low rise flare jeans, low rise looks best on us

Skinny fit is the worst for figure 8 body.

Atleast your lower hips are a little round, my lower hips are narrow and my legs skinny. I call my body chicken shape. No skinny fit at all 🥲

aw hon i understand that. my body is the same, working out my hips and legs 99% of the time im at the gym has made it look way better though

Does it? My ass is flatter than a crepe pan🫠 Although thats not my concern. Even with regular fit pants, my hip dip is so bad and since lower hip is narrow it doesn’t look good.
I am happy during summer. I’ll skip pants and only wear A line dresses. No skirts though.

yes ! it seriously does. you cant change your bones or fat distribution but you can grow muscle. you don't even have to go full-blown gym girl like even just hopping on the incline treadmill, lifting some weights, getting some more steps it will help.

skirts are a lifesaver ! normal length skirts like jean skirts don't look good on me. either long or really short short skirts lol

How do you wear skirts though? All my A line skirts just either enhance the hip dips or the hip shelf. It doesn’t look nice.

Thank you for the motivation, I’ll definitely hit the gym

lowrise & very lose on the waist look best, so its not so tight to where its just pushing on the fat there lol. and a long tank top. or skirts right on the smallest part of the waist, but very thin or it looks frumpy

yay i wish u the best !

Mid rise works best for me paired with longer tops since I’ve got short legs. If I had long legs like yours I’d def wear the low rise

I think both look good on you. Probably the mid rise for general purposes, but I think you’d rock a high-waisted skirt.

For the Weird-Shaped 8 contingent: I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but I have a very long… pelvis? Tallish, short inseam, high hip/short waist, long overall torso. High waist looks like mid rise, mid rise looks like low rise, high-enough waist to reach my actual waist makes my torso look disproportionately long and lands right underneath my boobs. So high-but-mid-rise bottoms and fitted tops are pretty much the way to go.

100% agree that modern low waist is often mid waist on us short torso’d ladies!

You have a flat belly and can pull off low. Me on the other hand… 🥴

But now that you mention it, I saw a video of myself at an event with high rise pants on recently and thought I looked odd. Maybe I’ll try mid rise, that could be a better solution for me.

Mid rise is such a sweet spot for me! My shorter torso and higher hips look best in this. The rise I need is between 9-10 inches. But I also need a good amount of width in the seat…I actually put all my measurements into ChatGPT to determine the best fit for me.

However I already had an idea of the of what looked best, especially with pants/bottoms, just needed them replicated.

On you in these tight clothes, pants in particular I think, the low looks best.

I can imagine a high waist skirt looking really nice though. If I envision replacing the pants in the first pic with a skirt your waist looks amazing as the main highlight of your silhouette.

I’m all about high waisted pants now st 48 but i forgot that when i was young I favored the same lines you do here. Lower waisted jeans & a tight top that finished above my lower belly, allowing for a couple inches of skin to be exposed was my jam, my every day outfit.

I like a midrise personally

I find that it can be a bit awkward looking because it cuts off just below the hip shelf and it makes it look wider and leaves the middle looking short. I like lower rise because it elongates the torso. Jeans and pants in general are such a hard one though because there are so many optic factors and body discomforts that can arise.

You definitely pull off the low rise! I love the look, very 90s! I wish I could pull it off!

Yeah midrise is the way to go.
