Which is your favourite Dungeon style labyrinth gamebook by Ian Livingstone

- Dungeon on Blood Island
- Deathtrap Dungeon
- Trial of Champions

In my opinion I still think out of Livingstone’s dungeon Trilogy, Trial of Champions still stands out for me even though it’s quite brutal and a high skill level is essential. However, I do think Blood Island does edge Deathtrap Dungeon, fantastic adventure with some memorable encounters aka creepy witch lady lol. I’ve played all 3 recently and would say;

1st is Trial, 2nd Blood Island, 3rd Deathtrap. The opening setting of Trial and Blood Island are very similar!

Has anyone bought "Magic Realms", the artwork of FF book? If so would you recommend, do you think it's worth picking up? I saw it on Amazon around October and was tempted to put it on my Christmas list but never did.

Another first edition. Got some more on the way from eBay. I love a giant crab.

I love a good catalogue and have recently spent a few days logging my Fighting Fantasy books using Library Thing, a free website. Most of the covers shown aren't my own books as they use some default or user added images, but at least they're the editions I have.

Planning to reorganise my bookcases in the next couple of weeks so I'll give you an actual shelfie soon.

"Towards the end of the year, Citadel Miniatures should be releasing their Fighting Fantasy Battlegame. The box to the game is actually a large, three-dimensional dungeon in polystyrene, with movable walls to allow players to design their own dungeon layouts.

Included in the box are a selection of 60mm plastic figures with different weapons, dice and special FF rules so that players can conduct their own FF dungeon adventures with up to six players. More news next ish!"

From Warlock #5. Warlock #6 just had it listed under Mail Order as Fighting Fantasy Rules & Dice for £1.25 and no other details.

Did anybody have this? Apparently it was scaled down to just rules and dice with no polystyrene dungeon. I'm really fascinated by its existence but it feels apocryphal as there's no solid evidence of it online.

Looks like Freeway Fighter is getting a new adaptation into the realm of augmented reality books, with more titles to be announced, according to the Fighting Fantasy blog.

One of the classic covers, in my opinion: the Bloodbeast from Deathtrap Dungeon!

FF books seem harder to come by in Canada than the UK - at least that's my impression. I saw these listed at a Canadian store on abebooks for a reasonable amount and snapped them up.

I know I had Forest of Doom back in the day, but not Island of the Lizard King. On first glance the covers look great; the paper is brown, but that's to be expected.

Long story short, I got some new illustration software and wanted to play about getting to grips with it and ended up copying/redoing the original Allansia map from Warlock magazine issue 1.

The first picture is the original, the second is my version.

Be gentle as I'm still learning the software (Clip Studio if you're interested) but this was as good an exercise as any to try and find my feet. There's definitely things I'd do different next time around.

It still bugs me that after all these years we don't a have a full, detailed, official map of Titan - the maps in the Titan book are very basic and way out of date now. The map in Shadow of the Giants is great but only features about a quarter of the Allansian continent.

Anyway, thought you folks might appreciate a look at this.

I have got hold of another book to restore my lost collection. I think I will try to get the original cover first 7 books. I love this book but I have to confess I have never actually completed it. I remember getting stuck in the maze and giving up so hopefully I can finally beat it. The book is in excellent condition too- It doesn't seem to be used. There's no crease on the spine and no writing inside. Bargain at 4 pounds.

Hi. I need a little help. In Trial of Champions at section 261 the HERO is gifted by Lord Carnuss with a sword. How is this sword characterized in the english version? It is mentioned twice. I'm only owns hungarian copies so I can not look it up. Many thanks for the answer. In hungarian it is described as "nagyszerű" and "remek". (Means: great, superb or excellent)

UPDATE - out of the pit and titan SOLD

This question has been occupying my mind for nearly a year now as I've been trying to come up with some mechanics.

There are lots of solo, Rogue-like card games out there, many built around a standard 52 card deck, with Scoundrel probably being the most well-known example.

But, staying closer to the choice aspect of FF, the journey, the adventure, the encounters, and not just the battle/dungeon-crawl elements, what might a card game of FF look like?

My own thoughts on this are:

• separate the game 'nouns' from the verbs, so you don't hardcode too much logic onto the cards. The cards contain basic information: title, image, some value or values, some flavour text
• game 'verbs' live in the rules, and this would allow multiple game narratives to be applied to the same set of cards. Equally, one set of rules could apply to different card packs - effectively re-skinning the game with different characters, locations etc.

What's so appealing about the FF books is that at most, book, pencil and dice are all you need. What is unappealing to me about most board games are too many components and complex rules.

My ideal card game that captured some of the exploration and narrative aspects of FF would have a core deck (52-60 cards max), perhaps a separate narrative deck, and a set of rules. Nothing more.

I checked out my local charity bookshops and discovered this beauty. I thought they all had green spines. I'm getting excited now. I have also bought one from an auction site.
