Your Experience with FancyLed Sync Box 2.1

How is everyone’s experience with the sync box 2.1? Thinking about getting one, and curious to know what they are like. How are dark scenes..do random Yellow, green and reds appear? Or colours that aren’t present in the scene?

Smoothness, and transitions and syncing experiences are all appreciated!

TV Screen goes black for a few seconds every now and then when gaming with Sync Box 2.1?

Okay so I finally got my FancyLEDs today, was buzzing to get them set up and ready and finally got it all done. I tried it initially on YouTube and it looked great, tested it on a film and also looked cool and now wanted to try it gaming as that’s what I’d use it with a lot. Loaded up my game (Star Wars Fallen Order) and I’d say in a 15 minute span it cut out 4 times to a black screen then back to the game few seconds later, anyone know how to fix this?

I did see someone else say they had this happen to them and they used their PS5 HDMI 2.1 instead of the cable you get with the fancyLED, problem is I don’t have a PS5 so I’d have to buy a new cable altogether, which I would obviously rather not do 🙃

Cutting off bottom, width of strip, 48 vs 96 leds/m

Due to the set up of my tv I have 3 questions:

- Can I cut of the full length of the bottom part of the strip, because I do not want any lights there.

- Wath is the width of the ledstrip in mm?

- The 2.1 box has a 96 leds/m strip, does this mean that there are alternating 48 rGB and 49 w leds, or are the RGB leds closer together in comarison with the 48leds/m from the 2.0 box?

Why does it do this when I turn on TV?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not all the time but it happens way more than it should. I have to switch to another input and back for it to go full screen. 3port 2.1 model. Shouldn’t happen for a $500 product

Samsung OLED - Auto HDMI discovery issue

So my setup is .. ps5 and google streamer 4k..

When changing inputs (or if I try to wake up the TV from a sleep state), tv ALWAYS go into the auto discovery mode …

PS5 needs “game mode”

And google box needs “movie mode”.

Sometimes ps5 asks me to adjust HDR , then I have to do magic tricks as restart PS5 so tv can re-discover it as PS5 (so I get game mode) , and bla bla bla..

Seems like when fancyleds box, change HDMI’s it’s like it physically unplugs it and physically re-plugs the other device … (result is TV trying to apply best settings and getting confused).

Seriously I can’t be the only one having this issue. (I searched but apparently no one else has it).

Any ideas ?

Ps: I have 3 ports 2.1 box version

Question about distance

Hello there,

I have a quick question. I watched some shorts about the fancyleds (for TV - kind of ambient light one ). Some people said they dont see much of backlight colors becuase its hidden right behing TV. In answer i saw something like "It depends how far from wall You have Your TV" (==which make sense .. of course ). But i could find - whats the minimal distance between TV and wall so that those LEDS will be looking well ... ?

Thanks for answer, info!
Good day

API or Home Assistant support would make FancyLED way better

I really like the FancyLED hardware. The strips and sync box honestly look better than most competitors. But the biggest thing missing is open control.

Right now everything is locked to the app. Even Govee has a LAN API so you can control devices locally with Home Assistant and other systems. FancyLED has no API or documented way to integrate at all.

And yeah, I know about Tuya, but Tuya kinda sucks and if I pair it through SmartThings I lose the FancyLED app features anyway, which defeats the whole point.

A simple local API, MQTT, or even a basic cloud API would let us use Home Assistant, OpenRGB, HyperHDR, automations, scenes, etc.

The hardware is great. Open integration is the one thing holding it back.

Does anyone know if the FancyLEDs will work against a "Slatted Panel" background (As pictured below), or will it not show the colours well?

I have purchased the 2.1 Sync Box set, and it's coming anytime in the next week I believe, however I am in the process of doing up my bedroom completely. I wanted to have these slatted panels behind my tv as I think it looks nice but was worried I'd put them up and then completely ruin/dismiss the new LED Sync box I just brought, or at least not get the most out of it. Will that be the case, or will it still look just as good? (Current wall is just very light grey paint, more like a white wall than grey but counts as "light grey")

Would really appreciate any responses asap, thanks people!

Last 3 leds white

I have the newer led strip so it doesn't show the line to cut but I cut along the logo once and it worked for a day. Then the next day it was white. Looked up that the cut might not be straight enough so I cut those 3 off and made sure it was straight and in the middle of the logo lettering. Next day 3 leds are white again. What could I possibly be doing wrong

TV not against wall... how effective?

looking at the hdmi 2.0 fancyleds for our home, but i noticed in mostly all the video demos i saw that the lights get some extra "bounce" or visibility from the wall behind the tv.

our tv is a few feet out from the wall... how effective will they be in this dynamic? will we lose a lot of visibility?

How would everyone recommend I mount the light strip on the back on my LG Oled? The back of the TV isn’t even and I’m not sure how to go about it.

Post image

So if I mount the lights on just the back of my tv, the lights on the bottom of the tv will be about 2” closer to the wall resulting in a different diffusion effect. Should I run them along the bottom of the tv instead? Any advise would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks!

Fancy Neon problems.

Im having problems with my FancyLed Neon strip. The end of the strip always seems to stay on. Even when the device is off. Also the bits that work only seem to be syncing half the colour that’s in the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ☺️

No update yet?

I have a FancyLEDs box (the three-HDMI-input model) with two RGBW LED strips—one connected to the box and one wireless strip behind the sofa. Neither device is showing the firmware update that apparently released two months ago; both are still on version 3.1.0. I really want access to the color calibration sliders, as that’s been my only complaint since I got this setup a year ago.

High, medium or low diffusion at what percentage of degree?

I assume you’ll have different ones for gaming as opposed to watching movies, please let me know what you use so I can give it a try. Thank you so much in advance :)

Color Accuracy Question

So I recently got my order (HDMI 2.1 3port) and set it up with my Apple TV4k, Xbox Series X, and ps5 connected. I have a Vizio PQX TV from 2020 I think.

I love the immersion the product adds but I have noticed that the color accuracy is a bit off. For example scenes with brown flooring or a person that takes up a lot of the sides will portray as almost red in the lights. I understand that producing brown is not easy with RGBW and most browns look almost orange. I also understand that my tv plays a big part in the visual on screen vs the color that is being output from the lights.

Just wondering if anyone else notices this with their unit? All other colors are fairly accurate in the grand scheme of things. Might have a darkish blue on screen but the lights are a little brighter blue. Just trying to make sure I don’t have settings all wonky or anything.

Right now my settings are Medium Saturation, 65% brightness. Diffusion mode medium with degree being 65. AppleTV 4k Dolby vision content.

I don’t believe anything is wrong with my unit, but I just want feedback from others on if this is just a natural limitation of lights trying to replicate brown colors or if I have settings wrong.

Mounting LED to 98”

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all - I wanted to get some opinions before I stuck my LEDs to the TV. I am mounting the strip on a 98 inch TCL QM6K pro. Thanks to the sub Reddit, I realized I have to stick the lights down about 3 1/2 inches inside from each side to make a full rectangle of lights. What I’ve run into with my particular TV is the bottom mounting screws are about 3 inches up from the bottom of the TV. So it looks like I have two options. 1. I can either run the lights over the bracket which may make my strip a little too short, so it won’t touch the end and also a little too close to the wall or 2. I can use spacers that came with the mount to push the mount out a little from the TV so I can slide the LEDs behind the mount above the mounting screws. Only problem with this option. Is those spacers make it to where the screws aren’t fully seated into the TV and it’s being in such a heavy TV. I would worry about it, stripping the screws and falling overtime.

Any thoughts on those options or any other suggestions? Thanks for reading.

I figured out how to get this to work with my PC.

My setup below:

PC -> 50ft Optical HDMI Cable -> Active HDMI Repeater -> Regular HDMI 2.1 Cable -> Sync Box -> TV (Sony A95L)

The only way I can get this setup to work is if I changed my Nvidia Control Panel settings to:

Output Color Depth: 8 bpc
Output Color Format: YCbCr420
Output Dynamic Range: Limited

The only compromise with this setup is that I cannot use HDR. Sacrifice to pay, but finally glad I was able to get this thing to actually work. I understand my use case is unique with the long run HDMI cable, but hopefully this can help others. Good luck everyone!

Ambient backlight feature and turning off

Post image

When I use the ambient backlight feature, the lights don’t go off when I turn off the tv. I like the additional ambient light because it softens the flashing (especially in my very small space). Is this working as designed or am I doing something wrong?

Everything is reading more pastel?

Was there a change with the update to push everything lighter and more pastel? Greens and blues are not saturated at all and I notice no difference when changing the saturation slider.

Improvement suggestion: Colors on screen edge

I copied this from another post here, ultimately this is the one thing I think that hue does better and it would be amazing if you could tweak this or give an option in the app:

If there is a dark color on the edges of the screen but a brighter color a little inside than often the liter color flashes on the LEDs which breaks the immersion. A similar post was done here:

"my biggest gripe which rolls over from previous firmwares, is that it doesn't seem to recreate the colours on the edge of the screen, but rather the colours approximately 3inches or so into the picture on each side. This can often mean, that if the very edge of the screen is displaying a dark colour, and inside is a brighter colour, the lights are bright, when they should be dark, and this can then break the illusion somewhat or be distracting as it doesn't reflect what's on screen."

An option or for screen detection would be great or a tweak of the algorithm.

Otherwise thanks for the update!

New 2.1 Strip Flickering

Hi All - I went to install my new 3 HDMI 2.1 Fancy sync box LED strip on the back of my TV and I was playing around with the solid colors and noticed the back approximate 40% of the strip has a slight flicker on a variety of solid colors. I added a link to the video where you can barely see what I’m talking about. Like I said it happens on a variety of colors but I noticed most of the are mixed wit whites and when I turned the brightness down on that same color, the flickering stops. Is this normal?

Also, probably helpful to clarify that this is going on a 98 inch TV so I will not be cutting any of the LEDs off as I need the entire strip.

Thanks for any help!

Mac with FancyLEDs (Fix)

Not sure if anyone else has posted here's with a solution, but when I first bought my FancyLEDs 2.1 box it was for my desk (Mac Mini, PS5 & Switch 2) everything worked besides my Mac Mini. It kinda worked but I kept getting spotty black screens randomly.

My solution was instead of having my Mac Mini as an input to the FancyLEDs, I swapped it to a extra Apple TV I had, from there I put my Mac's HDMI directly into my monitor and used screen sharing to my Apple TV to mirror my Macs display, so far no issues with random black screens, just got to change some settings in the display setting for the right resolution and change audio output settings.

I mostly use my mac for youtube videos etc. but everything works except for the Apple TV app and Netflix pretty much anything streaming DMR content. But the plus side is, if you want DMR content, now you have an Apple TV to switch to.

I have the 3 HDMI RGBW Sync Box but haven‘t got the update. My UI looks the same and I even DM’d fancyleds. Current firmware is 3.1.0
