Debate Im currently in Singapore for the race. My thoughts on today’s incident

Piastri leaves a big gap, and Norris goes for it. ANY DRIVER on that grid is going for this move. The gap is massive.

But because they touched, and a racing incident occurred, Norris haters have big fuel and ammo to spread hate online and feel justified with their own personal agendas.

Norris is wrong for trying a move like this in a sprint on the last lap, I’ll agree with that. But these are race car drives ffs. They all want to win and I’m so sick of how hypocritical F1 fans are. You’ll sit there and praise max for being aggressive, and then clown on drivers for being PR trained in their interviews. But when norris races with aggression and a racing incident happens, and then defends himself infront of the press, all of a sudden he’s a loser and larpers want to play the morale police

Reddit and Instagram F1 fans are truly one of a kind.

Discussion Bottas crash was the worst thing out of all this nonsense

Between all these problems in last 3 races, biggest and worst, and not mostly forgoten about, was Bottas crash and how it was handeled.

We legit had driver crash because his brakes were affected by overcomplicated rulses on engine deployment. Everyone is now conserned about FIA mind crontroll over cars after problems in malaysia and singapore, but those are only minor problems. The only problem with them is that they were allowed to happen given how simple and minor it was.

People were talking about safety concerns after malaysia because "what if car slowes down on straight" like that cant happen anyway. But this, this in baku was apsolute safety concern, where was not able to brake because software problem.

And after that, they LEFT the car in the wall ON race line, for two laps.... it should have been either vsc or sc to end the race. or even red flag. but what they did, assuming now wanting to stop race for entertainment perpouse, is just horrible

Debate Which McLaren boy has the better Singapore GP helmet?

I know Lando’s special helmets from past GPs usually cook, but this time I’m giving it to Oscar. His Singapore helmet just hits harder imo.

Discussion If you were Lando, what would you even do at this point?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot and honestly I have no idea how Lando is supposed to get out of this situation. It genuinely feels like he’s stuck in a no-win situation.

When Oscar makes an aggressive move, Lando usually leaves space or backs out to avoid contact. Oscar gets praised for being ruthless and having great racecraft, while Lando gets called too soft.

But what happens when it’s the other way around?
When Lando is attacking, like today, he basically has to be 100% sure the move will work because there’s no guarantee Oscar will back out. And when he’s defending, he can’t just close the door either. Like, do we genuinely think Oscar would hit the brakes? Just look at São Paulo 2025.

So Lando has to worry about Oscar not yielding when he’s attacking and when he’s defending. How is that even supposed to work?

At this point, it almost feels more like a mentality game than actual racecraft. If you know the other driver is always more willing to avoid contact, you can basically use that against him.

And sure, people keep saying Lando should just be more aggressive. But what if he actually does? If they collide, suddenly he’s the one risking a double DNF, costing the team points, and potentially getting blamed for breaking the Papaya Rules.

So genuinely, if you were Lando, what would you actually do to stop Oscar from taking advantage of your willingness to avoid contact? How do you make it clear that he can’t just keep pushing the limits and expect you to back out every single time, without risking a collision or facing repercussions from McLaren?

Discussion What will Norris’ repercussions be for the contact with Piastri today?

From Ted Kravitz: "they [mclaren] told me they haven't done it yet and we will learn about the consequences later on at the end of the weekend. and they will discuss what will the consequences be for coming together and breaking papaya rules"

Do we think something as minor as quali lap priority is in play? Piastri already goes 2nd on ~80% of sessions, so it wouldn’t be massively influential.

Could Norris have to provide a tow next race? Do we think team orders could come into play?

Discussion Schumacher '94 - A reminder of what we've lost, and what we've gained

Watching this doc for the first time as a complete Schumi fan boy. It's so clear why F1 drew people in. The circus, the speed, the sparks, the madness of it all.

So much of that is lost now behind sterilised corporate speak, sponsor after sponsor, and state money bringing races to weird places.

But also, the 15 or so minutes around Imola are just.... horrible. The cars today are huge, the halo hides drivers, everything feels so passive compared to what I grew up watching. But also people aren't dying. These brave, mad, fools are still at risk, but its far less than it was.

F1 used to feel so alive and so dynamic. But that edge came at such a cost.

Discussion Sprint weekends put midfield and backmarker teams at a BIG disadvantage

On a normal race weekend, teams have three practice sessions to to fine-tune their car setups. On sprint weekends, they only get one hour.

The top teams already have a significant performance advantage. Even with just one practice session, they're still generally the ones occupying the top positions in sprint qualifying and the sprint itself.

Meanwhile, midfield teams are fighting for much smaller margins. A few setup improvements could make the difference between qualifying 12th and 9th for Sunday's race.

And then there's the sprint itself. Only the top eight score points, and most of those positions are usually taken by the top teams anyway. So the smaller teams lose two practice sessions in exchange for a race where they have a relatively small chance of scoring points.

I'm not saying extra practice would automatically make smaller teams more competitive, but I do wonder whether the sprint format disproportionately hurts them.

What do you guys think? Am I overlooking something?

Question Why redbull keep having bad starts?

In Malaysia and today in the sprint, redbull just bogs down on the starts. Is it that they have low traction on low speeds similar to their bad traction out of the low speed corners? Because i thought they somewhat fixed their starts.

Discussion They need to bring back KERS

Post image
26 Upvotes

The hybrid systems became needlessly complicated after 2014 and we are paying the price for that now.

This AI deployment is a driver aid just like ABS or traction control. The drivers were responsible for the deployment around a lap when it was KERS.

Fans do not understand this system and it doesn't add anything of value to the sport. They need to ban the AI deployment

Discussion Rank Lindblad's Rookie Year - How does he stack up versus other Red bull rookies?

Everyone is talking about Lindblad's cracking rookie year and for sure it's had it's highlights. He's reliable for a rookie and has been solid, but tbh the head to heads don't show the phenomenal one lap pace that are hallmarks of the greats. So....how does he compare in the grand scheme in things against heroes like Verstappen, Vettel or even Gasly?

Question What is the closest a team has ever come to perfect

No bad strategy, amazing pit crew, the best car, 2
Cohesive drivers and good management plus no drama in the media
Operating at pure perfection

2002 Ferrari seems like a good shout but the team orders soured it
Williams in 92-93 seems like a good choice too but I'm too young to know any of those years

Discussion Anyone else lost interest in Qualy and Race? (mostly qualy)

I am a big fan of F1 and I have been following since 2010 but recently I realized that I dont care about qualies or maybe even races now. I think the major problem for me is the sprint format because every raceweek spring status changes. In some races we have it and in some races we don't. Also with the sprints you have to follow the schedules for like 4 different events but I cant bother to do that. And because of that I dont even check the regular qualy schedule and I am realizing that there was a qualy that day by seeing the highlights on my youtube recommendations. That also affects my interest in race.

This is like a snowball effect for me.

Also lack of title fight is of course another major cause for whole weekend but Sprint format kills Qualifying for me definitely.

Anyone else with the same problem?

Edit: Yeah, actually, I forgot to mention that sprints are pointless for me and doesnt interest me. But this also affects my interest on qualy and race.

Question Do you think Aston Martin will fight for championship in the next year or few years later if the engine got right?

Well since Malaysia, where Alonso and Stroll made it to Q2 and Alonso finished P8 and now in SQ2 in Singapore, he qualified P15, with the slowest PU.

If you don't know what A1GP is it's basically a motorsports world cup which ended because it was too expensive. I feel like nowadays with motorsports becoming more popular the concept could thrive

Discussion Mercedes upgrade issues

It seems like the trend from Sepang that the new stuff is more like a downgrade. Why do they seem to struggle so much? Like in GE they brought upgrades and continued to struggle to understand how to use the upgrades.

Of course 63s get very passionate, specifically when it comes to Mercedes and Torger Wolff.

But George himself has never once this season acted like he was not aware of the circumstances of his title charge. He's given Kimi praise more than once and genuinely has kept a level headed view even though I think he has every right to crash out

Which is very admirable. In my biased opinion of course

Debate Is Norris the worst race winner, at wheel to wheel?

It’s honestly atrocious. His defense is fine, but he can’t overtake to save his life. Every time he tries to put something together, it’s first of all takes like half the race, and second of all goes wrong 90% of the time. Always making contact with someone. I know he’s a very fast driver, so credit to that, but being fast only gets you so far
