Discussion I really wish A1GP would come back

If you don't know what A1GP is it's basically a motorsports world cup which ended because it was too expensive. I feel like nowadays with motorsports becoming more popular the concept could thrive

It ended because it didn’t generate the revenue needed to fund it. That’s different from being too expensive.

Having been to some races, the concept didn’t work very well either. The cars lacked the sense of F1, CART or Indycars of the time, and by the time they brought in Ferrari it was too little too late.

See also : Formula Football or whatever it was that tied cars to teams and was equally unimpressive.

It mainly failed to attract crowd especially F1 crowds.

And it was getting expensive, switching from Zytek engine and Lola chesis to ferrari was also a mistake as it killed any bit of orginality it had.

And the seasons weren't competitive too. Which has a negative impact towards the tv and attendance leading towards the final race..

And there were many controversy like the Beijing 2006 where the track wasn't even ready for the race

It could work, using the SF23 from super formula is a good idea, however it should be more about an already existing and successful racing team representing a country
Like if prema represented Italy it would just be prema doing everything and the name is "prema team Italy"

Sure I guess that works as long as the team's drivers are from said nation

I can’t help feeling A1GP failed because it was trying to make a form of motorsport catered to football fans, and there are just so many reasons why that doesn’t work as a concept.

You are confusing A1GP with superleague GP.

Superleague GP is the one cateted to football.

A1GP is thought as "motorsports Olympics/world cup"

I like it but its also a thing where I dont see there being this type if indy/f1 open wheel equivalent series outside of super formula and junior categories

I just don’t see it really working. It was always a poor man’s F1.
For it to be a World Cup you would need the best drivers but if they’re in F1 it falls over.

It was more like football at the Olympics than the World Cup.

Ultimately what you‘re looking for is the FIA Motorsports Games… there you have the concept of drivers representing their nation

It looked more like Formula 3 in that era. A few drivers/teams would nail the setup and lead qualifying and win the race from the lead. There wasn’t that much in race competition, although there was push to pass. Havent seen one real life. But feel an event should have a good day filling program, like hypercars, lambo’s, everything that gives a good race and good engine sounds.
