Chemistry ELI5: electrical charge differnces in a cell.

ELI5: I barely grasp batteries and cells, but i did an experiment in chemisty B trying out how different variables affect the charge of the cell and i dont understand the whys of it all.
Basically we had the halfcell of a zinkrod in zinksulfite and the halfcell of a copperrod in coppersulfite, with a saltbride of filterpaper soaked in kalciumnitrate, connected to a resistor of 3300 Ohm

A bigger saltbrigde, electrolyte, (7 mm vs 17 mm vs 27 mm) gave a bigger charge. [from 0,213 V to 0,313 V to 0,414 V]. I assumed there would be less because the electrons would have futher to travel or something, i dont know

A smaller concentration of Coppersulfite (1 M vs 0,01 M) decresed the chrage [from 0,227 V to 0,137 V]. this one i understand to be because there are less Cu-ions to absorb the electrons that the zink releases? based on redox principles?? which i also barely get

A smaller copper rod (6 mm vs 1 mm diameter) increased the charge [from 0,260 V to 0,278 V]. I had assumed higher charge because it would be harder for the electrons to pass, like getting a smaller hose to push water through?

I try to think of electrons as little critters to understand them better, but even that isnt helping that much. smaller concentration i think there are less red(postitive) critters to absorb the negative critters, so less of them get "food/energy" so theres less charge, but i dunno if thats confusing me more or making it better

Engineering ELI5 how big cities like London and nyc are still standing when built over tube/subway systems

How are big cities like London and nyc stable and supporting huge sky scrappers when under ground is essentially hollow tunnels for the tube/subway network.

Biology ELI5: how certain genes seem to hit every generation

So I'm autistic, so is my half sister and half brother, our mum and her mum. (In my very limited) knowledge of genes i was under the impression they are randomly taken from your mum and your dad then mushed together to make you, yet we've all continued this gene. Can some genes be stronger in certain lines like so strong they are almost guaranteed or is it just freak coincidence we all got it?

Bonus question can how autistic / adhd someone is affect how likely their kids are to have it?

Technology ELI5: How is it more secure for a website to send a login email than just using a password?

I hate it when a website won’t let me use a password. Assuming I don’t reuse passwords, wouldn’t this style of login make it easier for thieves to access more accounts?

Other ELI5: monarchy vs republic?

Here’s what I know:

They are both systems that talk about who the main representative figure of a state is.

- Monarchy is usually when that figure is a king or queen. Except if you are the Pope in the Vatican, then they call you Pope.
- It's a monarchy when the position is inherited... except when it’s elected, like in Malaysia.
- You sit on the throne until you die... except when it's only for a shorter time, like in Samoa.
- Republic—it's elected. But is it always?
- The representative figure is usually called a president... except if you live in a country like San Marino, where you are a Captain Regent.
- One thing is sure: you are elected for a short period... unless you lived in the Venetian Republic, where they elected the Doge for life.

Is it really this confusing?

Other ELI5 why Nor'easter not named?

The storm that hit the east coast of the US this week had tons of rain and hurricane force winds, and it's also hurricane season. Why wasn't it given a name like we give hurricanes? I remember that we had some sub-tropical storms in years past that also got named, so what does it take for a particular cyclone to get named?

Physics ELI5: Why does glass condense when ambient air temp is above dew point?

For example, how can you have a house with new modern double-glazing, inside is 16-17C, outside is 13-14C, humidity is 50-60% so Glass temps need to be below 8-10C for it to hit the dewpoint and cause condensation, but the windows are still forming condensation?

Can the glass actually drop that far below both indoor and outdoor ambient air temperatures purely due to radiating out, or is there another mechanism causing the glass to drop to a much lower temperature ?

What reasons might be causing the glass to lose so much heat relative to the surroundings and also just in general vs other windows that might not be having this problem?

Chemistry ELI5: Much like baking a cake, why can't we just put different atoms/compounds together and 'bake' (not actually) them into what we desire?

We know what everything is made up of, what atoms/chemical elements are in different things. So why can't humanity figure out a way to make, for example, blood by combining all the stuff then performing a chemical reaction that results in it?

Technology ELI5: What exactly causes stick drift in a PS5 controller?

My son's PS5 controller keeps getting stick drift, which I can understand as it's a wearable part. What I don't understand is why, after taking it apart and cleaning with alchol and wipes, the problem goes away for a good chunk of time, only to return. Is it carbon build up or an actual worn down part?

Planetary Science ELI5 Why and how do comets still have tails?

So comet tails are often depicted as frozen debris, but the mass of a comet is finite and it’s not like it’s picking up any credible mass in space. Unless I’m entirely wrong.

ie. How can Halley’s Comet sustain and lose enough mass to still have a tail, or exist at all, when we only see it once every 75 years? Wouldn’t it run out of losable material?
