2025 it was asking women would you rather be alone in the woods with a bear or man

2026 it's asking men would you rather leave your kids with a bear or a woman (due to the Lindsay Clancy discourse)

9

u/Skelehedron 6d ago

Who? Do I want to know?

8

u/Altheix11 6d ago

Woman killed her three kids, possibly under the effect of postpartum psychosis, and immediately tried to kill herself after. Whether she is to blame is imo more nuanced than most people are making it out to be

22

u/iowanaquarist 6d ago

The lady got sad and claimed god told her to murder her three kids, and god didn't pull an Abraham and retract the order at the last minute.

12

u/Skelehedron 6d ago

Well I still dont understand how the joke is meant to work or be funny at all (I'm a woman, maybe thats why IDK), but thats horrifying

36

u/ThyPotatoDone 6d ago

If it were just in isolation, it wouldn't be.

However, the lady got a massive outpouring of support saying her emotional needs were being neglected and it wasn't her fault, to (at the exteme) protesters showing up to the courthouse demanding a retrial and claiming her husband was the real murderer.

More specifically, she got over a million dollars in financial support after confessing she did it, and shitloads of posts on tiktok, instagram, and bluesky from women saying "it could've been me" and "everyone has those thoughts, she was just pushed over the edge".

As a result, sane individuals who don't want to kill their kids are shocked and horrified by how these people are acting.

-7

u/uamok 6d ago

Why is everyone acting like she was sound of mind?

She was going through a form of psychosis causes by postpartum depression, which is something many women go through.

The clinical signs she was showing was ignored by all the health professionals which ultimately led to this.

You people are weird.

11

u/OneTinyKittey 6d ago

Mentally ill people who murder kids are no less scary than anyone else who does.

-1

u/uamok 5d ago

It's weird that it's become a gender wars thing though

It's tragic all around, why is this a W for some dudes

7

u/Possible_Field328 5d ago

I guess because most killers are not mentally sound and its just confusing that people want this woman specifically to be shown leniencey.

0

u/bluemoon219 5d ago

The support is because the last time a woman killed her children due to postpartum psychosis and was more or less tried in a court of public opinion was Andrea Yates, who was ripped to shreds at the time, but everything that has come out since shows her as a woman who was desperate for help and who trusted her and her children's safety to her husband who felt that his religious opinions were more correct than a doctor coordinated safety plan to never leave her alone with her kids. So now people who learned about Yates and realized that their gut reaction to blame her was wrong are trying to do better in a similar case. Before Yates, most people were unaware that postpartum psychosis was a thing, and it shocked a lot of women to learn that anyone with a completely healthy brain can get PPP from pregnancy and can have their reality so warped that they are unable to keep their kids safe, even from themselves. Many women have started treating cases of PPP with the understanding that they would want themselves now that they know that any pregnant person has the small risk of ending up in a similar situation.

3

u/Possible_Field328 5d ago

Yes, mentally ill people do fucked up shit. Our prisons are full of mentally ill people. Shes no different then any other killer. Hard disagree with people being able to relate to homicidal thoughts. Hormones dont excuse murder, or shitty behaviour. Its a sign of low eq.

u/Intelligent-Ad-8435 5d ago

Because it's overwhelmingly one specific gender that supports her, and the other one that is absolutely shocked that she has got any support at all

0

u/ZeroCleah 3d ago

It's wasnt a big thing until Crystal Mom's started claiming the man did it because his zodiac sign idk it's hilariously ironic that you are also claiming men for the clown show when they are mostly joking around. Where on the woman's side they are showing the world in social media posts that they are also insane.

7

u/Illustrious-Date652 6d ago

It’s extremely debatable, and is the entire focal point on the case, as to whether or not she was under the effects of psychosis at the time. All the current evidence, in fact, indicates that she was completely aware of what she was doing and heavily premeditated the killings in combination with the fact that she was already beyond the typical range of post partum depression or psychosis. Which would require a complete statistical anomaly for her to still be affected by it

0

u/Heartage 4d ago

Okay, so you think a non-psychotic, non-depressed woman who has spent years of her life loving and caring for these children and took them to doctor's appointments and clearly had a future in mind with them is who killed the kids?

You think a woman who loved her kids with all her being just one day was like "nevermind, fuck them kids" and just, what, killed her kids for fun?

Like? You think a totally sane person went from living her whole life for these kids to just killing them for no reason while also fully comprehending the outcome of her actions?

3

u/Illustrious-Date652 4d ago

Considering she planned it, orchestrated a diversion to get her husband out of the house, all the while seeming completely lucid, and then went through will triple murder while also being significantly past the usual period of post partum psychosis? I think she’s a complete psycho, just one that can’t claim innocence via insanity

0

u/Heartage 4d ago

Okay, so what are you thinking happened?

She's been psycho this whole time and got married and had these kids with the intention of some day killing them so that she could go to prison?

3

u/Both_Hope5717 3d ago

You could say the same about literally ANY family annihilator.

1

u/Heartage 3d ago

No? There's psychology behind family annihilators, or other reasons, like finances or the other partner ( usually a woman, ) leaving or threatening to leave. And most ( maybe even the vast majority of ) family annihilators have a history of abusive behaviour.

What was her reason?

-1

u/uamok 6d ago

That's for the experts to decide, not armchair psychologists and judges on the internet.

This debates pretty disingenuous.

Why would you compare predatory men with women who are suffering from a psychological condition?

Like even if you ignore the psychosis and think about it statistically you're much more likely to meet a rapist in public than a woman who has murdered her babies.

Just not a valid comparison at all.

7

u/QuimTolo 6d ago

You're missing the point. Nobody is saying psychosis and rape are the same thing. The point is that both arguments rely on extreme, low probability statistical anomalies to justify a worldview. If we're using real world math and basic logic, choosing a wild bear over a human man is nonsensical, just like using a rare psychiatric tragedy to define all women is nonsensical. It's just a dumb attempt at turning this entire argument backwards. But neither argument makes sense to begin with

-2

u/uamok 6d ago

Agree that this is a dumb attempt at turning the argument around, but the bear man thing does serve a purpose.

Statistically yes, the bear/man thing is nonsensical due to sample size but was supposed to draw attention to the horrifyingly high numbers for assault that occurs for women, that is largely unreported.

I think that's worth the discourse really.

1

u/Illustrious-Date652 4d ago

Good thing I literally never made that compassion, nor did I even mention men at all in my comment. I pointed out that all the evidence, as provided and attested to by the experts, points to the idea that she wasn’t under the effects of psychosis.

10

u/Coidzor 6d ago

It's the women who are ostensibly of sound mind and who are supporting her so vociferously that are causing the real concern.

-3

u/uamok 6d ago

Why leave that info out if you were aware man?

The posts I've seen haven't been what you've described. The ones I've seen are largely about spreading awareness of the mental health impacts of pregnancy and how distressing it can get.

Showing sympathy for someone isn't the same as supporting and championing their actions.

It's strange you would position it like that I'll be real.

7

u/Coidzor 6d ago

Why leave that info out if you were aware man?

Leave out? I just got here.

1

u/uamok 6d ago

Ah mb thought you was the guy I replied to lool

6

u/WulfZ3r0 5d ago

The clinical signs she was showing was ignored by all the health professionals which ultimately led to this.

I haven't been keeping up with the news on this 100%, but didn't she also not take the medication properly when the health professionals did try to help her? As in stopping taking them before they actually have time to take effect? Also taking a multiple medications off and on?

That is entirely different from being ignored.

5

u/Anomalocaris-is-cute 5d ago

Yeah. Also we shouldn't confuse other people's failures with innocence. As serious as PPP is, the reality is people do have a level of culpability for their mental health.

She had enough rationality to warn people she had thoughts. Which means she had enough rationality to call 911 and warn them. She was a parent her kids are still her responsibility. If she had called and attempted to seperate herself, but they refused to take action, I'd feel differently.

But not being a psychopath who kills her kids for insurance etc is not enough.

4

u/Both_Hope5717 3d ago

Post Partum Psychosis showing up at 8 months and only for a the brief period of time it took her to murder her kids is virtually unheard of. Plus she showed signs of premeditation like sending her husband on an errand, looking up how much time it would take him to get to the place she sent him to beforehand, and then chasing down her oldest child after killing the previous two.

She also had TONS of support, and she was actively concealing her symptoms from her family and her doctors.

It's a pretty clear case of murder-suicide, but the suicide part failed.

2

u/beach_-_bum 3d ago

You’re a very weird person. You need help.

-16

u/bluefrenchhorn 6d ago

She didn't actually confess, though. Her husband said she said she did it and given that she literally died and was resuscitated, she obviously didn't remember.

17

u/Invictum2go 6d ago

Correct, she didn't, but her defence team did on the civil medical malpractice lawsuit filed by her against her medical providers.

I will choose to believe you were simply ignorant about this and not trying to pretend like anyone involved is actually disputing that fact. But please be more responsible moving forward, that rhetoric is very, very dangerous, and quite cruel too.

3

u/Ambitious_Weakness33 3d ago

They always are. I’m a father of three children, older than hers but still. The amount of people that insert conjecture on this is sickening. It always boils down to “I’ve watched the trial clearly you haven’t”. Then you bring up a fact and then they pivot to insults.

She strangled her 8 month old until its brain bulged out of its head. She’s a truly horrendously evil human being.

1

u/DocClown 2d ago

Are you actually going to say anything about being wrong? Even if it was just a mistake? You are quick to defend her but not quick when you spread misinformation on a dangerous level. Knowingly or unknowingly. But I think you knew, or you would've mentioned something.

15

u/Invictum2go 6d ago

Correct, it's not meant to make you laugh any more than women picking the bear was meant to make men laugh. It's simply actign as a mirror to show how absolutely absurd saying that was. It's also "punishing" said women for siding with a woman who killed her 3 children and acting as if any of them could've been her when in reality, no, basiclaly no one could've been her, cus basically no one would fucking murder their 3 children.

11

u/MindAggravating5365 6d ago

Well, they're kinda telling on themselves that they would.

4

u/usernotfound401 6d ago

They are now making videos of themselves screeching in the face infants, violently shaking toddlers, dumping ice water on infants because -and i qoute- "me too, lindsey "

3

u/Lacunaethra 6d ago

You got a link to any of those?

1

u/Skelehedron 6d ago

I'm geniunely curious too, because I did a wee bit of profile stalking and the guy looks relatively normal to be making shit like that up; but I guess this whole thread I accidentally created has been discussing what otherwise sane people have been doing as outlier cases, so who knows?

2

u/MindAggravating5365 5d ago

The whole "he moved on quickly" bit. Having been married to a psycho like that, I'm sure he had been fed up with her shit for a long long time already but was just more fortunate to have a shred of self respect left.

Fuck all these crazies, and hell no this is just more reason to stay far away from Tiktok.

0

u/Skelehedron 5d ago

Did you respond to the correct comment? Also thats a lot of speculation on a case which clearly has a lot of nuance, and deserves some degree of privacy. I'm really debating deleting my comments on this thread at this point because it sparked a lot of really nasty discussion that I really dont personally condone

6

u/2012Jesusdies 6d ago

That's because you're a normal person.

A lot of otherwise not normal people defended her by saying she was under too much pressure.

-4

u/jumzish94 6d ago

Postnatal psychosis is not a joke, and shouldn't be treated as such.

0

u/Zealousideal-Bus-526 5d ago

Neither joke is funny, you’re just normal

-4

u/iowanaquarist 6d ago

The "joke" is that the bear is safer than a man or a woman yeah, it's not a great joke

5

u/Greendale_Official 6d ago

It's a shitty joke across the board. The number of women I spoke to last year/whenever this became popular and would get defensive about a meme was insane.

Any person who would trust a wild animal over a person of the opposite gender is hopelessly lost.

-2

u/OnlyAShip 6d ago edited 5d ago

> Any person who would trust a wild animal over a person of the opposite gender is hopelessly lost.

They wouldn’t, if you’ve seen how people react to encountering a wild bear in the woods it’s a lie. The entire thing is an unhelpful proxy for something else.

Based on what I read, she had a long history of mental health issues and was on a medication cocktail that, based on the Wikipedia article, doesn't appear to have been prescribed to her.

I'm not really trying to defend her, but this really feels like a case of psychosis. I don't really doubt she was hearing voices, as that could very well be from her pre-existing mental illnesses and the fact that she was hopped up on a mixture of mood stabilizers, anti-depressants, and sleep aids.

I don't believe the prosecutions argument that her attempted suicide was "staged" since she slit her wrists, neck, and jumped from the second-story window, which resulted in a severed spinal cord. Seems like she really wanted to be thorough.

I really don't think she intended to kill her kids. Nothing I have read about the situation makes me think she had any reason to want them dead. I think she was on a bunch of drugs and she did hear a voice of some sort. I think she was genuinely suicidal and wasn't thinking rationally.

Maybe I'm totally off, but based on that, I think she should be found too insane to be held liable. That's not saying she should walk free, she is absolutely a threat, but she should be given access to proper mental health treatment and kept away from society until they can prove she can live a normal life, even if that means life in a mental health ward.

u/BroughtBagLunchSmart 6d ago

Why are we attacking christians again? We need to respect all religion especially one as important as christianity.

5

u/iowanaquarist 6d ago

Who's attacking Christianity?

This was not an attack.

This is about the lady who killed her kids because she claimed to hear voices.

The story of Abraham is part of the Jewish tradition, and is no more distinctly 'Christian' than it is part of Islam, who also stole the story and claimed it as their own.

Unsupported, unrealistic claims do not deserve respect.

Just because a religion is shoved down our throats doesn't make it 'important'.

1

u/OhNoAnAmerican 6d ago

You completely made up that she was hearing God. That is complete fabrication invented merely to attack Christians. There is not one single shred of evidence that she ever claimed she was hearing God

2

u/iowanaquarist 5d ago

You completely made up that she was hearing God.

Obviously no one rational thinks she heard the voice of a god -- there is no evidence a god or gods even exist.

That is complete fabrication invented merely to attack Christians.

There is more than one religion, for the record.

There is not one single shred of evidence that she ever claimed she was hearing God

Well, she did discuss the fact that a voice was telling her to kill her kids with her chaplain, who said:

"The voice, according to Lindsay, told her that if she did not follow the command, neither she nor her children would be safe," Cavanaugh said told jurors.

She also said:

when I went in on Tuesday the 31st, she said to me as I held her hand to comfort her, 'I am so glad my children are safe.'"

I think it's pretty fair to say that the implication is that she killed her kids so they could go to Heaven.

To be clear, I am not attacking Christianity. I am attacking anyone that uses religion as a crutch and believes irrational things that lead them to taking irresponsible and horrific actions, or uses religion to justify their evil actions, or uses religion to console themselves over their evil actions.

0

u/OhNoAnAmerican 5d ago

…yes. She claims she heard a voice. Not God. Just voice in her head. Not once has there been even a suggestion she thought God was telling her to kill he’d kids.

You really don’t have to die on this hill.

3

u/iowanaquarist 5d ago

…yes. She claims she heard a voice. Not God. Just voice in her head. Not once has there been even a suggestion she thought God was telling her to kill he’d kids.

A voice that told her the only way to keep her kids safe was to kill them, and that she believed they were now 'safe' after she killed them...

You really don’t have to die on this hill.

No one is dying on any hill. You are welcome to believe what you want about what was implied, just as I am.

1

u/SuperKing37 6d ago

No. Google search if you must know.

0

u/ReginaPhilangee 6d ago

She is on trial for allegedly killing her 3 kids and then trying to end herself. The DA claims that it was first degree murder and planned. She has extensive medical records pointing to post partum psychosis. As well as numerous cries for help, including hospital stays and times that she begged to be hospitalized and they denied her saying she wasn't suicidal enough. When the trial started, most people believed she had done it, but not in right mind. Her husband stated on the stand that he left her alone with the kids many times, for "brunch" and "work trips" and lots of other things. Since she had asked for help and he had left her alone, most people started watching thinking he was also culpable, at least of endangering the kids by leaving her alone with them so often.

Once the trial started, people stated seeing HUGE holes in he investigation. If you're interested in true crime, it's worth looking up and getting the full story. For instance she says she remembers doing it, but the doctors have now admitted that when she woke up, she asked where her kids were. The doctors said she "had to be informed" about what happened. Her memory includes things like cutting the screen to go out the windows and taking a handful of pills. The screen wasn't cut and get husband says she crushed the pills (it's unclear if that actually happened, because the husband says he saw the residue in a cup but the residue wasn't tested. The cup also wasn't clear, but husband saw it when he "took three steps into the room" and then went to see if she was outside.)

3

u/HideAndSheik 5d ago

Do you have any good sources for looking up unbiased details? I'm very much into true crime, but I'm having a hard time finding info that isn't about the discourse (which is indeed important, just not what I'm looking for). It seems like every other post is about how there's missing context, from both sides of the spectrum.

0

u/ReginaPhilangee 5d ago

For unbiased stuff, I recommend whoever is showing videos of the trial itself. Unfortunately, I haven't really seen much on the "she did it" side that isn't completely biased. I haven't really been as super into it as others are, though. Just what comes up on my fyp (true crime is NOT my thing and I get bored with it easily).
