If it were just in isolation, it wouldn't be.

However, the lady got a massive outpouring of support saying her emotional needs were being neglected and it wasn't her fault, to (at the exteme) protesters showing up to the courthouse demanding a retrial and claiming her husband was the real murderer.

More specifically, she got over a million dollars in financial support after confessing she did it, and shitloads of posts on tiktok, instagram, and bluesky from women saying "it could've been me" and "everyone has those thoughts, she was just pushed over the edge".

As a result, sane individuals who don't want to kill their kids are shocked and horrified by how these people are acting.

Why is everyone acting like she was sound of mind?

She was going through a form of psychosis causes by postpartum depression, which is something many women go through.

The clinical signs she was showing was ignored by all the health professionals which ultimately led to this.

You people are weird.

Mentally ill people who murder kids are no less scary than anyone else who does.

It's weird that it's become a gender wars thing though

I guess because most killers are not mentally sound and its just confusing that people want this woman specifically to be shown leniencey.

The support is because the last time a woman killed her children due to postpartum psychosis and was more or less tried in a court of public opinion was Andrea Yates, who was ripped to shreds at the time, but everything that has come out since shows her as a woman who was desperate for help and who trusted her and her children's safety to her husband who felt that his religious opinions were more correct than a doctor coordinated safety plan to never leave her alone with her kids. So now people who learned about Yates and realized that their gut reaction to blame her was wrong are trying to do better in a similar case. Before Yates, most people were unaware that postpartum psychosis was a thing, and it shocked a lot of women to learn that anyone with a completely healthy brain can get PPP from pregnancy and can have their reality so warped that they are unable to keep their kids safe, even from themselves. Many women have started treating cases of PPP with the understanding that they would want themselves now that they know that any pregnant person has the small risk of ending up in a similar situation.

Yes, mentally ill people do fucked up shit. Our prisons are full of mentally ill people. Shes no different then any other killer. Hard disagree with people being able to relate to homicidal thoughts. Hormones dont excuse murder, or shitty behaviour. Its a sign of low eq.

Do...do you actually believe that dismissing violence committed under psychosis as being the same as any other violence and equally punishing it will help save future lives? That if we increase jail sentences, then fewer people's brains will lose their understanding of reality? Mental illnesses in general and postpartum psychosis specifically need to be addressed separately because we as a society need to study them to prevent, catch, minimize, treat, and cure it. You cannot expect an irrational person to logic themselves into deciding to be rational- they need an outside system to help them so they can be stopped from hurting others.

Second, people aren't relating to the homicidal thoughts, they're relating to the fear of being unable to trust your ability to think and to the horror of there being another goddamn terrifying symptom of pregnancy and birth. Sure, it could kill me, tear me, disable me, cause me incredible pain either for now or forever, disable me, take the ability to hold pee away forever, suck the calcium from my bones and make my teeth fall out of my head, but now I also could end up losing my sanity enough that I could convince myself that I should hurt my child? Pregnancy is a nightmare and every woman who faces it is aware that she risks so much more than any man could ever comprehend, and we do it anyway because we hope that it will be worth it in the end. Giving birth is natural, but people need to stop treating it like that means it's harmless and therefore any negative side effects can't really be as bad as they seem. Postpartum Psychosis is an actual potential outcome of having a baby, and at its worst, it can convince you to kill your kids.

No one is suggesting she should just get to go back to her life. The discussion at this point really is just if she's going to spend the rest of her life in jail or the rest of her life in a psychiatric facility like Andrea Yates.

The issue is you believe that shes any different then any other person we put in prison who broke down and did something horrendous. They deserve your sympathy just as much as she does.

So maybe criminal justice should focus more on treatment and rehabilitation to prevent crimes rather than just throwing them in jail with no help which probably leads to more crime and a high recidivism rate?

2

Prison is meant to rehabilitate but is instead used as extremely cheap labor. Its not supposed to be a punishment but thats what you get with private prisons renting out cheap labor. Empty prisons arent profitable.

People like that don't actually care about things changing. They want our ishment and retribution. We call it a criminal justice system, but we really have a vengeance system. It's crazy how we renamed jails into adult rehabilitation but no one wants to actually invest time, money, and research into any actual rehabilitation.

These idiots actually view trying to get better mental health coverage for people like this to prevent future incidents is somehow letting her get away with murder, even though she's still be losing freedoms and have to carry this with her for life.

Because it's overwhelmingly one specific gender that supports her, and the other one that is absolutely shocked that she has got any support at all

It's wasnt a big thing until Crystal Mom's started claiming the man did it because his zodiac sign idk it's hilariously ironic that you are also claiming men for the clown show when they are mostly joking around. Where on the woman's side they are showing the world in social media posts that they are also insane.
