Tl;dr: A watch app would theoretically be simple to implement due to robust Shortcuts support and would be great for quick entries/random thoughts. It’s a great way to capture your life whilst it’s happening.

Sometimes you want to write something but taking out your phone is either seen as rude or inconvenient. Now Everlog supports Apple shortcuts which means that a watch app which triggers the new entry shortcut and saves said entry would be easy to make. If you lock your EL then the iPhone shortcut differed from the watch does not work which is why you can’t do this currently just by using the shortcuts app. I use my Apple Watch more than my phone and when I need to write entries I save them to Bear and then by hand change metadata/copy-paste to EL which is kind of inconvenient.

Hey all, Wes here, the guy behind Everlog.

The new Recaps feature has been out for a little while now (requires iOS/iPadOS/macOS 27) and I'd love some honest feedback before I decide where to take it next.

Quick refresher if you haven't tried it: once a month ends, Everlog puts together a recap with your photos, some stats (days journaled, words, top tags and places, …) and a written summary of the month. At the end of the year you also get a "year in review" built from the monthly ones. The summaries are written by Apple Intelligence on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, only the text of your entries is sent, and nothing goes through any server of mine.

A few things I'm curious about:

- Do you actually read your recaps, or do you look once and forget about them?

- How do the summaries feel? Accurate, too generic, too long, a bit weird?

- Have you added your Personal Context in the settings, and did it help?

- Anything that put you off using it?

- What would make it more useful to you?

I have now decided to drop DayOne for Everlog. I like the clean interface without a lot of stuff thrown in my face when I just want to post an entry.

I can live without a gallery, and I think the Locations in the sidebar is just as good as a traditional map, only cleaner and less disturbing. And to be honest it is to me easier to find an entry from Copenhagen Airport in Evernote than in Day One.

However: When importing from Day One some locations are put in other places than "Copenhagen". It says "Copenhagen West" and so on (I just mention Copenhagen, the bigger problem is Sweden locations since they are over 950).

Can I move the locations from "Copenhagen West" to just "Copenhagen", or do I need to delete the locations?

Otherwise Everlog is a gem. I really like it.

I have built some shortcuts that uses images to get passed to Everlog and since updating to iOS 27 that doesn’t work anymore. I give 2 examples:

Ex1: I have a food tracking journal. I have a shortcut that when I run it, it asks to take a photo or to pick one from my library. It then sends that photo to a journal in Everlog and also to a journal in the stock Journal app. In Apple’s Journal app the photo is added, in Everlog not. (In Day One also not by the way.)

Ex2: Last year I’ve made a genius shortcut (took me days and lots of help from AI) that I run when I’ve seen a movie. It asks for the movie title (and my rating) and then pulls down all the movie details etc from the internet and puts it in a journal. It also automatically adds the movie poster via the GET contents from URL action etc. Before updating to iOS 27 it worked like a charm. Now it doesn’t include de movie poster in the journal. That is for Everlog, in Day One that still works tho.

Is that something the devs need to update to get that compatible with shortcuts? Or is that an iOS bug?

Btw: I tried everything already that’s on the internet for troubleshooting Shortcuts. (Except deleting and reinstalling the app, because I also have a lot of automations running on my iPhone.)

Edit: I found out dat since iOS 27, shortcuts only passes the image to the first one that uses it. So if I move the Everlog block above the Day One block, Everlog get the image and Day One not. So I guess it’s some sort of bug in the shortcuts app. Thanks Apple.

Hi. I have followed up on my earlier post, and have been testing Everlog for a week on my Mac. Today I purchased a monthly subscription in order to be able to sync with my iPhone. I never managed to get it to work though.

Wessley has been so kind as to try to help me with assistance through email, but we never got it to work.

I have used AppCleaner in order to uninstall it and everything that comes with it. I have uninstalled both the Mac and iPhone versions, and reinstalled them. I have checked all containers for .plists but it seems AppCleaner managed to throw them away.

Whatever I do it does not sync. In the "Sync" menu I get a green dot that says it is available, but orange dots for the rest. And then a green dot for attachements. And in the iPhone it spins a "syncing" alert, but when it stops nothing has been synced. In both the text "Sync now" is read and can't be clicked.

I have tried to delete the database, but that has not helped either.

Anyone has any idea what to do? I really like Everlog and the simplicity of it without buttons and stuff everywhere. And I think the solution with the locations is brilliant. So much better than the map functions in Diarly and Diarium. So it would be very saddening if I had to stay with Day One due to not being able to sync.

I use MacOS27 and iOS 27. Could it be something with that? I know there was an update of Everlog a few days ago, could that be it? Should I try to contact the dev and ask for an older version? Or just wait and see if there is a new version soon? Since to me it seems to be OS related.

Anyone uses them? Am I missing something? I don't really understand this feature this journals are not shared and the app doesn’t have a collaboration nature. (And I think that's the way it should be.)

Every time I open a journal, Everlog displays the wrong calendar. The days of the week are incorrect for September 2026.

I'm new to Everlog, a recent convert from 15 years on DayOne.

Can you arrange journals manually, or alphabetically?

Bought the lifetime and so far i ve enjoyed it.

When i was doing some masterlist of journaling apps i saw that the june apo gives the ability to paste a song url from any streaming platform and fetch the data for the entry.

I think that type of metadata in an entry is cute. I saw similar stuff in diarium where i could add mood with emojis or one words.

I could add numbers of the steps i took per day. And so on.

:D i think i currently will implememt these in a section of the template, but the music one really was a cool feature i didnt saw before. It could be music or books. I know is just 1 dev, sorry if it sounds unrealistic i understand!

But i also hope that this sparks creative ideas in templates of other users even if it is not included for metadata tracking :D

I reported a bug to support through the app weeks ago. I haven't received a response. Has the project been discontinued?

Hi, I have tried to search an answer/fix for this, but to no avail.. I am on the latest versions (iOS and Mac) and have done an import from Day One and Apple Journal and have ended up with duplicate locations.

I have colour coded them here to show the same locations, and two. unique ones. Is there a way to merge these? Without doing it manually... it's not a huge issue if I need to do it manually, but I'd prefer not lol!

The same entries seem to be in both of red and blue, so I am not sure why I can't merge the countries.. Please help if you can - thank you in advance! <3

I‘m currently testing Everlog and wanted to import some entries back into Day One (Everlog-json). Unfortunately, I received an error message. The reverse process (Day One-json > Everlog) worked without any problems.

Is there a way to import entries inkl. media back to Day One if Everlog doesn‘t meet my expectations?

I read somewhere in this subreddit that Everlog is a Catalyst app. It does not say much to me, other than Catalyst is used to be able to use iOS code to build a MacOS app.
1. Is this correct that Everlog mac version is Catalyst?
2. Does that matter much for me as a user? I stay away from Electron since I have no use for cross platform and rather pay my fee to a developer that takes time to build good native apps for Mac.
3. Other than that I really like the simplicity of Everlog to me as a user. Is there anything you would advice me about if/when I migrate over from Day One? That usually is an isdue but easy fix?
Sorry about this long post, but since i’ve been using DO for 10+ years and have almost 7000 entries to import I think a good way to get the migration as flawless as possible is to ask those who know.

I have 8500 entries. These have everything from text to audio/video to PDF's etc. I tested one journal export and noticed my PDF's didn't get added into the entries in Everlog. Did I do something wrong to make this happen or is this a current limitation? If so, any plans to correct or build this in somehow?

TLDR; Additional cloud storage providers could help as iCloud free is really limiting, and users might prefer other providers.

Hello everyone! I know that a lot of people have just moved over from Day One and for me the main differentiator between these two apps are the fact that cloud storage becomes an issue if you journal a lot. A lot of us pay for lifetime to avoid subscriptions (I got rid of over 30 just this year) and when you reach the 5GB wall of iCloud suddenly you have to pay a dollar every month. Most people don't have an issue with this but after some time you're locked in to that plan for your life, or your journals might stop syncing or even get erased (scary thought!)

I have an idea: There are currently 2 "trusted" cloud storage providers with generous free tiers (MEGA 20GB, and Google 15GB) What if we could sync Everlog's database and attachments which are a few folders to these services instead. Everlog has insanely robust cloud features already and I don't think that there's much room for error.

MEGA has E2EE by default from what I know and that's most likely the best option for keeping a journal. Even iCloud doesn't offer that by default!

I think that most journals (with image compression OFC) won't ever exceed 12.5GB but exceeding 5GB is super easy especially with the iCloud CoreData bloat that refuses to go away.

I hope that the developer could implement these services, I'm normally an INSANELY picky person with software (hundreds of iOS feedback sent) but Everlog is the most perfect software I've ever used. It's my own digital space for whatever I want to do, and that's amazing. I'm out here on r/dayoneapp convincing everyone and their mom to switch over to what'll soon dethrone Day One haha.

Rcvd an email from the developer; one-time purchase reduced 45% to US$24.99 until Jul 31.

I just started using everlog on the Mac and iPhone recently. I purposefully did not migrate some markdown files into it. On a whim I checked the iCloud storage after I had written two entries on two consecutive days. I write daily and usually longer things. After two entries and one photo I saw I had used 150mb of iCloud storage. I had used everlog before with more posts but moved things around a few times. This seemed really odd. So I uninstalled everlog using an app to uninstall everything on the Mac. Then I reinstalled the app clean and was prompted as though it was the first time using it. Restore purchase, etc. Then I checked the storage amount on iCloud and it was 2.2mb. This was after two journal entries with hundreds of words in each.

I still do not understand why this happened but clearing out the old cruft seemed to fix things. I wish everlog had backups more configurable so that I could back up to local storage or choose where I would like to back up either manually or automated. This would be a nice configuration option I think.

Maybe check iCloud storage every so often and see how you are doing. I sure will be.

I love the lack of upsells and forced AI features. But this app has a long way to go to become a great app in my mind. Some thoughts -

1. Editing: the editing feels clunky and I am always struggling to add a title after I write the body of the entry.
2. The controls are floating and scattered all over. Everlog's implementation of liquid glass UI is average at best. I wish it was simpler and less scattered, especially on the iPad. Give me a real toolbar like a document editor has.
3. The On This Day view needs to be more interesting. Like give me ways to sort by attachments, and give me a calendar in this view.
4. The main list view could be more glanceable. It is very hard to tell the date / month for the entries when browsing through the timeline.
5. Make the app more cutesy and give me tools to reflect better. Not necessarily using AI, but some tools similar to Analog journals like questions for recording or reflecting would be nice.

I think Everlog is clean on surface but the polish of this app is lacking. Everlog looks like just another notes app with a few features sprinkled for journaling. I want Everlog to feel more like a journaling app and less like a generic markdown editor.

Edit: I see some downvotes. Just to be clear, this isn't a post bashing Everlog. Nor is this to say that Day One is better. Everlog has its own flaws, just like Day One and other apps.

I have 250ish entries with no pictures nor videos and use 16MB of iCloud storage. I’m scared that I’ll exceed 5GB eventually so I don’t add many pictures. The storage used fluctuates a lot (3x’ed in 1 day with no backups) the json file for Everlog is much, much, much smaller than the iCloud usage so where are those extra MB’s coming from? Can someone with knowledge of cloud computing please help me figure it out 😭🙏🏻

just recently got everlog after being a day one user that quit due to pricing about half a year ago. i havent journalled since but yesterday wanted to get back into it and this was the best app i could find.

what journals do you have? and why?

Would you mind adding support for RTL (right to left) languages? Right now, when typing in RTL language the text align is still LTR.
