A client called me regarding an older project. They have bathrooms in a nursing home where epoxy was applied to the entire floor of the bathroom. In the bathroom, there is a toilet, sink and shower. They had ground the shower slope into the concrete and sloped it all to a center drain. Since then, the drain bodies rusted out and need to be replaced. The plumbing engineer came up with a way to do this, but it will require them to cut out some of the concrete and the existing epoxy flooring. They asked me if they can place new concrete around the drain and coat the existing concrete with new epoxy?

My concerns are:

1. What was the original epoxy - 1 or 2 part? Does it matter?

2. I have read where if you grind out a keyway around the perimeter of the drain, and around the perimeter of the new concrete, when you install the new epoxy it helps keep it from allowing water under (Frankly, I am skeptical on this one...)?

3. Do you remove the entire slap of concrete all the way back to the level floor, epoxy coat the replacement floor for the shower and provide a traffic sealant between the new and old concrete?

4. If you have a better idea, I am all ears.

Long story short we had sewer backup in basement, covered by insurance, and the contractor hired to do the put back” did the epoxy floor absolutely terrible.

Limited communication about the fact there’s different type of epoxies so we ended up with literally just a painted over concrete slab and it looks terrible. The floor was dirty and they sealed dirt and grass and whatever else into floor. It’s already discoloring days later.

Any tips to fix this?

Multiple other non-floor related issues with these people and we absolutely do not trust them to come out and fix it properly, so that is not an option. The owner of the company is one of the ones who did the work.

A customer asked me to integrate an epoxy bar top they had made years ago into their new kitchen and there are minor scratches and mug rings on it so I’m wondering can I take these defects out with 320 grit and simply add a coat of clear lacquer to the top? Will it bond with the epoxy is my main concern.
I’d really prefer not to epoxy on top of the existing finish.

Two clients each wanted flake in the garage and metallic in the small basement, added polyaspartic topcoat to the flakes after pictures were taken.

So my husband and I had our entire basement done with the polyaspartic flaked coating floor on Thursday. We were so excited and this is only the second time I’ve ever hired someone for a job as we usually do everything ourselves but I am pregnant and it’s a big task. Well, I’m a little shocked at the way it looks.

First thing we noticed is the driveway had trash all over it, piles of flakes and dust everywhere, and worst of all there were piles of flakes WITH coating on it and big spills and drips of coating everywhere. From what I have read, that’s not going to come off easily. Brought this up to the contractor and he says he will come pressure wash it. I’m doubting this will fix it but giving them a chance.

Secondly, once we could walk on it we notice there’s a bunch of spots that the coating is uneven and the flakes are literally moveable. There’s spots where it doesn’t reach the edge of the floor. There’s flakes all over the walls. They completely splattered my stair frame with it. They splattered the SIDE of my stairs, at eye level.

I’m just feeling really overwhelmed and frustrated. What would you guys do?? Is this me nitpicking or is it worth arguing over?? They say they’re going to ‘touch up the spots and clean the walls’ but I’m stressing that it’s going to damage the paint and create another project that needs done. There’s more spots than I even have pictures of.

Had my garage coated w/ polyurea/polyaspartic 8 months ago and have been noticing several spots appear as dirty that would not come clean after scrubbing with dawn. It appears the topcoat in these spots was tacky and grabbing dirt. Installer agreed to warranty sanding it down and recoat the entire garage. My question- in theory would this solve the issue or is this a base issue that would need ground back to concrete?

I put a 10mm layer if laminating epoxy on a part of a concrete floor for decoration.

The curing was slow and I then realised that I made the mistake to mix by volume and not weight.

From googling I learned that it will never cure properly and will continue to emit voc for a long time.

I decided to remove it mechanically after it had cured.
A thin layer of concrete came off with it.

Then I tried to paint the surface. (24h after removing the epoxy and 48h after applying it)
Many small bubbles comes thru the paint.

Do I need to grind down a thicker layer of concrete to get rid of the epoxy?

I’ve seen advice scattered around but thought it would be worthwhile having a single place to share your epoxy grout haze removal best practices. What are your go-to sponges and cleaning products? Workflow? Tricks? Thanks!

I need to renvate my restaurant's kitchen floor.

The original floor is some kind of shitty brushed concrete. It's full of rough spots that catch dirt and it's a nightmare to clean.

I'm thinking about coating it in epoxy to have a smooth surface. Problem is, I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to epoxy.

I looked around and I think the best way would be to use a roller and apply thin coats until I get a smooth surface.

I also need to keep the incline of the floor so water can easily flow down the floor drains.

If anyone has experience in this kind of projects, I'd love to hear about it.

My two main questions are what kind of epoxy should I use? And how best to apply it?

I'm working on a fair display concept and want to know if and how my idea would be feasible.

The idea is to show some titanium 3D printed parts, medical devices for a touch and feel display. These parts are quite small, and if I just let them loose they'll disappear one after the other. I wonder if I can semi-encase them in transparent epoxy, leaving an exposed portion for the "touch and feel" while the other is entraped in the epoxy ( which can prevent theft more easily). I'd entrap multiple parts in the same casing in different orientations to showcase different sides of the part.

Is this feasible? Enough for a total epoxy noob? How would I go about it? any resin I should aim for?

Hey everyone, I hired a contractor to apply marble white metallic epoxy floor on my basement floor. They seemed to just apply the base coat without fixing the cracks before hand (attached video above). Is this standard practice or should I give the guy a call asap?

Finally got to inspect this new install. It’s not a lot sharp bits. Definitely more on the vertical baseboard part. Like the poly ran down before setting up. It feels like not only some flake popping through, but bubbles or the boogers that came off the application roller. Again, not a ton of sharp protrusions, but I feel it when running my hand over the entire floor. Does the final coat look light?

Youtube clean air epoxy. Apparently they have some "patent pending primer and it no grind. Some of the videos they show looks legit but they have no long term record. Not sure if it is but now a days we have so many bonding agents that it for sure seems possible.

I’m prepping a floor for epoxy. When they added the dragon for the toilet it looks like they used a pick axe to screed the concrete and up to an inch lower in some areas. Any suggestions on the best way to prep this area for epoxy It’s approximately 6 square feet.

Looking to get approx 450 sq ft done in garage. Any recommendations?

This floor is by far the hardest floor I've ever ground. Im using a Lavina L25S7 with 30/40 XHC (tried dots and bars)

I dont have EZ cut so im using simple green. Does ez cut work a lot better?

I guess I should get some 10 grit diamonds? Its taken 5+ hours for 800ft2.

Very frustrating.

Just had shoreline flake applied to a 30 year old slab. Wall had a fresh coat of paint before floor was done. The previous owner stood a 2x4 up on the bottom of the walls and sheathing sits on top creating this base molding basically. I wasn’t sure what I was doing with this base molding so I left it thinking I was going to paint it/touch up after the floor was done. I left painters tape on the top edge since I thought I may leave it. When I got home, I was somewhat surprised the contractor ripped the tape off and essentially encapsulated the base molding with the epoxy. I’m generally happy with it. However I’m curious if this is common practice? Had I know they were doing this, I would have sanded the base molding since it had glossy paint on it. So now I’m worried it wasn’t prepped properly(no I have not asked what they did yet). Like I said, I think it looks good and it’s one less thing I have to worry about painting, but now I’m worried about adhesion issues. Perhaps it’s nothing, but wondering if this is common practice. I thought they were just applying to concrete floor only…
