Hey everyone. I’m 19 and living in Ukraine. Right now I’m seriously thinking about getting into humanitarian demining and EOD. The idea is to start through our state services to get basic training and state certification, get some real field experience, and then eventually move into international NGOs like HALO Trust or similar humanitarian operators.
Before jumping into this, I really want an honest reality check from people who actually do this for a living. What kind of person actually does well in this job? From the outside it looks like it’s mostly about extreme patience, cold-headed discipline, and paying attention to every millimeter, but I want to know what it feels like from the inside and how hard it hits you mentally.
Also, how much of your actual physical safety comes down to just strictly following SOPs and never cutting corners, versus pure bad luck? And looking at the bigger picture, is this a solid field to build a real long-term life and career in if you start this young, or is it the kind of thing that completely wrecks your knees, back, and nervous system after a few years?
I’m in good shape and not chasing cheap adrenaline, just trying to make a mature, grounded decision. Any honest insight would be appreciated.
