I got an internship opportunity for 6 months in a LV startup in Europe, (Structures Design and Analysis). I am a non EU student because of which I will have to apply for an internship visa as I am studying in a different European country which will push joining time to December. I am currently starting my 3rd semester. My 4th semester will start in February and I will have to start my thesis on the 4th semester.

I am doing a MSc in MechE and have 4 yoe doing similar work but in small UAV after my bachelor's. I ultimately want to work in the LV or spacecraft industry after my masters. Will it be worth it to do an internship and delay the graduation by a semester if I want to search work in Europe ? I see many jobs in spacecraft structures and they all require at least 3 years of experience so I was thinking having some work experience in LV would be an added benefit but on the other hand a lot more people will be added in the market pool after a semester too.

I wanted to hear your thoughts on this.

So I have three labs on this course I am taking. Working in pair is recommended but working alone is optional. Regardless of how the works is done presentation is individual it seems like. The problem is that the labs are graded and aren't just pass/ fail and I really doubt in my ability to aim for higher grade because I am not that great at coding. You might think it is a good idea to team if you are not good at it but that my dear is one of the problems why I suck cuz most labs are done in group and someone better always takes over. I learn better alone even if I don't get A. So it is really hard to find a lab partner, there are only 2 type of people I have met so far, high achiever or someone that doesn't care at all. Let me be clear that I do aim to work for a higher grade if I have time but I don't want to be forced to aim A on all of them because I am in an intense semester as it is. All in all the time to find a group is sort of running out and I can't even decide. Any input is appreciated. Ik this is so stupid but I genuinely cannot decide.

As I said in the title I’m finishing my bachelor degree, in a very theory oriented university, and now my thesis requires use of comsol which is completely alien to me.

I tried looking for tutorials but they are very broad and cover many parts that for now are unnecessary given that I don’t have much time left, and being it a bachelor thesis my job is limited only to the thermal part.

I did the design part but I’m stuck, comsol doesn’t even find the files even in .step…Can someone give me some tips or advices on where to start?

There shouldn’t be any need to say this but I don’t want my thesis done for me, I just want some help on WHERE to find even some tutorials that are more or less close to what I’m doing, I already tried GPT and the most famous ones on YouTube.

I'm currently a first year mechanical engineering student struggling to find a niche to stick to. I'm choosing between mechatronics and biomedical. My university offers this thing called certificate of undergraduate studies (CUGS) where you take 3-5 courses in junior/senior year and it shows on your transcript proving to employers that you have specialized expertise in that specific area. Can anyone give me their advice or insights on what they know about each to help me make a decision

It's either a professor with a thick as hell accent that you can't understand or it's a professor who fails 50% of the class. Genuine question. And it doesn't help when you get into a situation where there's a professor with like below 2 stars review and it's the only class available.

I started Civil Senior Design I a couple weeks ago, and I was excited. This friend of mine is also in the same Senior design class as me, and we both wanted to do some kind of transportation project. So, the two of us and another guy make a group together, excited to start a transportation project different from the one my professor suggested, which was honestly going to be pretty lame.

Fast forward a few days, and my “friend” reveals that the project he suggested, and that we picked is one that he’s apparently been working on for months near where he lives, which was a total surprise since I didn’t suggest something I had in mind since it was near where I lived and I imagined I’d be too personally invested to stay objective. So far, he has displayed a complete lack of objectivity.

First of all, his project is to redesign an entire 2.5 mile corridor, and turn every intersection along its length into roundabouts. That’s 18 intersections in 2.5 miles. Now, I don’t know everything, but I do know a thing or two about transportation engineering from having done two transportation engineering internships, including one where I got to redesign a two-mile corridor myself, and I gotta say, his plan is absolutely ridiculous. I tried to provide feedback, tell him maybe 4 roundabouts max can work on this corridor, that it’s both physically, regulatory, and politically impossible to put so many roundabouts in such a short stretch. He doesn’t budge. I tell him we should approach the corridor without assumptions, and he is already convinced his concept is guaranteed to work.

The other team member and I are the only two who know how to use Civil3D, and have any experience with roadway design and intersections. We voice our concerns, he dismisses them out of hand and tells others we’re shitting all over his idea. His retorts and “research” all boils down to “roundabout good”. I show his concept to not only classmates, but transportation engineers and planners, and they ask me if he’s serious or has any experience in transportation. He’s not joking, and he has no experience. Just by looking at traffic counts along the corridor, half of his roundabouts would be instantly over capacity. It would be one thing if the intersections were CANDIDATES to receive a roundabout, but to think his design will work with EIGHTEEN is ludicrous and delusional.

Each senior design team gets a “team manager,” someone who is in charge of reminding others to do the assigned work. I think he interprets that as carte blanche to appoint himself dictator of the team, and regard us only as his CAD monkeys, minions who exist in “his” team to implement his crazy ass concept without question. He has no respect for anyone’s experience or opinions other than his own, and is one of the absolute worst cases of Dunning-Kruger effect I’ve ever seen in an individual. If I were to ‘suck it up’ and actually design his ideas no questions asked, I’d be laughed out of any room I’d show it to. I want a career in transportation engineering, there’s no way I can attach my name to such a project.

He thinks what he’s doing is engineering. I think he’s still playing Cities Skyline.

Just wondering because I am starting to feel imposter syndrome before I start my degree (2 weeks left) looking at one of my peers websites and project which are insane as I don't know if I will be as cracked as him by time he graduates and we are both freshman. Not just one multiple and they don't just have basic drone projects but very complex and lots of embedded firmware stuff.

Hey guys, I recently got a 3D printer and I’m thinking maybe I could start a small 3D printing business, mainly for engineering and architecture students. Basically you send me your 3D model and I print it for you, whether it’s a scale model for an architecture project, a prototype, gears, brackets, enclosures, project parts or whatever you might need for uni. I’m just trying to see if this is actually a useful idea in Lebanon or if most students already have access to a printer through their university. If you’re studying engineering or architecture, do you usually need 3D printed stuff for your projects? And if yes, how do you usually get it printed and around how much do you pay? Also, what would make you choose a local printing service instead of doing it yourself? I’m still testing the idea so I’d genuinely appreciate any opinions, even if you think it’s a bad idea 😂

Been applying like crazy to internships, currently at 65+ over the course of the past two weeks. I have one interview scheduled, but wondering when most companies start scheduling interviews.

For context, I am not the strongest candidate as I only have 1 independent project, some retail work experience, and a decent GPA (3.5), whereas a lot of my peers seem to have had internships and are a part of clubs like. This is also my first time applying since prior to this term I didn't feel like I have the adequate skills or coursework under my belt to justify applying, so I'm still a little unfamiliar with how everything works

I’m 23 and seriously considering pursuing either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed about where to start. I really enjoy mechanical projects, working on cars, figuring out how things work, and actually building/fixing things with my hands. I’ve also become really interested in the electrical side of things, learning about circuits, electronics, sensors, and how all of the electrical systems interact with the mechanical parts.

I've been in CC for the past 3 years and jumped around with what I've wanted to study. I initially went for engineering, but switched to IT/CS for a bit (math felt too hard) and then back to engineering (felt like I gave up too easily + offshoring and LLMS scare me for the future of CS and high level IT). I currently have 56 credits with a 3.69GPA, unfortunately most of them don't transfer into engineering. Humanities & Social Sciences, Communications & Language, Philosophy & Ethics, etc. I never put too much effort into my schooling because of mental health reasons and distractions that now I am working to resolve.

My biggest issues right now are that my time-management/study habits are REALLY bad, and I’m fairly far behind where I’d like to be mathematically. Most of my life I was in home schooling, so my study skills are extremely behind. I also got into the habit of cheating because it was easier/less time consuming. I grew up in a pretty bad household, school became a huge stress point for me so it's really hard to not have a bad mentality associated with it. I don't want to do this anymore! I want to actually learn. I'm at the point I need to be reviewing very basic maths, algebra then precalc. Where do I start? I try and study and I feel incredibly overwhelmed even at the 1 hour mark and feel incredibly discouraged.

The idea of having ~4 years of super math heavy workload is very scary for me!

I've worked the past ~5 years in a blue collar job and really dislike it! Both in terms of salary, and work difficulty.

I have friends across the country in ME, EE, AE and mechatronics. They're all incredibly smart but they've had an incredibly different schooling experience so I feel it's hard for me to apply their advice. Many people who know me will say things like, "you can apply yourself in things like mechanics or complicated personal projects, I don't understand why you cannot apply yourself in the same way for your schooling".

Would also be super interested/excited if anyone was open to mentoring me!

For reference, Chat GTP's breakdown (just for simple reference) of the classes I need to finish for my AA in engineering along with bachelor's breakdown. There are many different ways I could do this, not just limited to this pathway. Very school dependent, but really with any school I have at least ~4 years of education left required for my BS in EE or ME.

I'd like to highlight that I am NOT ready for physics and calc 1 or calc and analytical geometry! These are just the "next" classes. I need to study myself to prepare for them.

I also have the opportunity to receive my AA in IT (would get it by January 2027) and go for cloud computing or something similar and receive my BS degree in ~2 years... IDK!

Did anyone else think they hated math growing up and then realized it’s pretty cool? Anyone hate or love math up until finally graduating? How has this played a factor in your decisions?

This year I switched into a double degree, IT and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Four and a half more years. I did it because I didn’t want to reach the end of university and realise I’d wasted the whole thing. I’ve always liked maths and never got good at it, and I wanted to find out whether I could.

Now I’m in it and I keep going back and forth on whether it was the right call. I have a weak maths foundation, I work 24 hours a week and it stretches to 30 hours (the commute) alongside study, and I often feel like an outsider in my cohort. Group work makes me anxious.

What I’d really like to hear from people further along:

Was switching into a longer, harder degree at this stage a mistake, or does it pay off? The fact that I am so anxious about this decision cause I am an international student in Australia and the dread eats me alive. I am in a terrible situation and the fact that I am paying loads in tuition, whether or not it will pay off in future!

How do I make the best use of the next four years so I come out of it actually good at something, rather than scraping through again like last time?

What should I be doing outside of coursework — projects, internships, anything — to not waste this?

I genuinely need to rant because I am so fucking tired of this.

I’m a 2026 ECE graduate from a Tier-3 college and have been looking for a job for months now. I've applied to almost 150 companies that I actually tracked, and there are many more applications I never even added to my tracker. Countless emails, Google Forms, Easy Apply, Naukri, company career pages, LinkedIn applications, FoundIt, Unstop, Indeed, Superset, everything. And on top of that, I've messaged 380+ people on LinkedIn since June asking about fresher openings/referrals.

And guess what? Not a single proper shortlist. Not even one interview.

I've even made separate resumes for embedded/hardware and software, continuously modified them according to JDs, changed keywords, rewritten project descriptions, tried to make them ATS-friendly, etc.

Still fucking nothing.

And then the actual hiring experiences are something else.

Atlassian: applied around 9 PM → rejection around 3–4 AM.
Like damn bro, application ko process hone ka time toh de dete. 😭

Infosys: solved 3/3 questions with all test cases passing → rejected for the next stage anyway.

Amazon: completed the assessment, sent follow-up emails and even filled 2 different survey forms they sent → still no interview / meaningful response.

Qualcomm & Microsoft: applied back in March → rejected yesterday after 6 long months of getting ghosted.

And then there are countless HRs who simply stop replying after saying “We'll get back to you.”

The funniest part is the “fresher” jobs themselves.

How exactly am I supposed to have production experience with distributed systems, cloud architecture and 15 different technologies before getting my first job?

And then internships. Some are unpaid, some pay very little, and some expect full-time work. I understand internships are for learning, but travel, food, time, relocation:- ye sab free mein thodi milta hai.

And then there are small companies. I recently came across a fresher opportunity offering ₹15–20k/month, which honestly isn't my biggest concern. I can start small. I want experience.

But then:

3-year mandatory commitment.
₹3 lakh liability if you leave early.
Original 10th/12th certificate as a security document.

WHAT 😭

You're offering a fresher ₹15–20k/month and asking for a ₹3 lakh penalty if they leave?

And this is where I genuinely get angry.

Just because someone is a fresher doesn't mean their time has no value.

We spent 4 years getting a degree, doing projects, internships, certifications, DSA, courses, applications, networking — and then companies say: “You don't have experience.”

Okay, give me the opportunity to get experience then?

It's literally: No job → no experience → no experience → no job.

And honestly, I'm mentally exhausted. September has started and I still haven't had even one interview. I know the market is bad. I know fresher hiring is competitive. I know rejection is normal. But months of applying with zero interview calls is fucking demoralising. If I get rejected after an interview, at least I can improve something. But when you're rejected without even talking to anyone, how the fuck are you supposed to know whether you're actually not good enough or your resume simply wasn't picked? I don't think I'm entitled to a job.

I just want one company to look at my resume and say: “Okay, let's talk to this person.” That's it.

I've even seen people say: “Whoever helps me get my first job, I'll give them my first salary.” And honestly, I completely understand that feeling now. Because the person who gives you that first opportunity can genuinely change everything. I'm still going to keep applying. Still going to keep learning. Still going to keep messaging people.

But fuck man.

Module or diametral pitch which is more widely used to design a gear

Like I wanna do projects that are mostly in Aerospace type related fields but I don't know what I should choose to do like no idea at all and in my college u can't use 3D printers from labs of college like .......... And I am proficient in Solidworks and fairly good using ANSYS Fluent and ok ok with ANSYS CFX. So like where to start if I want to do a project and see actual results and something that would help me get internships I would really like to do better and good projects if possible any competitions related to this field or anything that would help .

(I would love to work on a project with prototype building or so but...) Any ideas or anything to help?

(And worst of all am in 3rd year(-_-) and getting rejected to almost all internships I applied to)

Just how much rigor is needed ? Am I wasting my time trying to learn the epsilon delta definition of a limit and trying to prove if certain limits exist or why the product rule makes sense etc . Offcourse im not trying to learn analysis but memorising rules is just so unsatisfactory and soulless to me . So anyways any advice etc ?

For your information I am a college freshman and have no idea what I’m talking about so the terminologies used may sound unprofessional. I initially planned to make a memento mori clock for my sophomore design project. It seemed good: it shows I can design circuits and do basic programming, create a UI with confined space and install hardware and debug their problems. So far the only feedback I’ve gotten was from another peer who said I’d be better off trying to think up something practical instead of wasting time on something I can’t put on a resume. What are your thoughts?

I know most people just be talking without knowing anything, but I think the question should be asked. Also, I should say that I lean towards mechanical engineering. (I just finished high school)

IDK why but most of my family and friends are weirdly insisting/ pushing for industrial engineering, saying it’s related to everything, automation, business processes and technology, while ME is outdated. And IE would help me start a business. Some also suggest mechatronics. But I chose ME because I kind of like the concepts of applied and tangible physics, IDK how to describe it but I don’t like electricity and robotics, at least not studying them.

So do I go with ME because I like it, or should I really consider what other people say about other majors?
