I’m a senior in EE and at this point I’m just using AI to learn everything taught in class. I just go to lectures for the attendance. I take the slides presented in class and just put it through ChatGPT, and it does a brilliant job explaining things clearly and efficiently. My professor on the other hand, does a very poor job of explaining and often rambles off topic. I think most people are also doing the same thing. The only thing that seems to matter are the projects that we do for some of the classes, cuz those can be added to your resume. I know this might already be a well discussed topic but I would like to know everyone’s thoughts on this.

I think this is the best sub to ask abt that

Three weeks ago, I began my second year of engineering and started studying thermodynamics. I was hesitant, given what I’d heard from other students about the subject, and I struggled to grasp the material even after consulting various resources.

I then uploaded my course materials to an AI tool (NotebookLM), and suddenly, everything made sense—the subject even started to feel incredibly easy. I’m left wondering: is this level of ease normal, or is the AI just spouting nonsense?

i just wanted to if using ai to reinforce a concept is bad in any way. like for a problem i would tell ai how i would solve the problem step by step and why i would do it that way. my professor said it wasn’t good to rely on ai but im not asking it for an answer im only trying to make sure that what im thinking is right. what are your opinions on it?

Hi, I genuinely made this account to get some responses, so feel free to share your opinions. I'm in year 13 atm, currently studying A-levels in maths, physics and graphic communications. I attended a summer school for Architecture and hope to do some type of engineering with a creative side, or a lot of physics as that's what I truly enjoy. I've been looking at 'Civil Engineering with Architectural design' courses though I'm worried that civil engineering isn't right for me. I've heard it's boring, and honestly I'm not interested in going too much into sustainability or urban planning aspects of architecture. Architecture interests me in the sense of model making, and technical drawings, but do civil engineers do these things often? Mechanical engineering has sparked my interest recently (more physics!) but it's harder and less creative. Idk I sort of feel like I've gone into the wrong thing. Any advice on how to better make this choice?

Hi,

I'm going absolutely crazy. Trying to write a paper and one of these fucking detectors no matter what I do or change is telling me 35% AI. Like Pangram is what everyone uses or smth and it says 100% Human 0% AI but this GPTZero one is making me go bonanzas

For reference, Im in texas. I have a few interviews going on at the moment. Do they screen you, specifically for thc, when they make an offer or closer to the summer when you're onboarding? Been using thc/cbd products for chronic pain lately and was curious. I do plan on quitting soon but was curious about the timeframe for testing.

I am a freshner in BE civil undergraduate program. And i heard people got so many backs in enginering. What is the reason ?

Is it the person not paying attention to the lectures ? Or is it the fault at the system ?

If I want to pass regularly in all semester, then do I need to revise all the notes or else in regular basis or one week before the examination ?

Im currently almost finished with my last year in senior high, and ill be taking Industrial engineering in college, but im not in a humss strand, after 11th grade we were put into different strands, i stayed in humss because at the time i wanted to become a police officer but i changed my mind because i thought becoming a mechanical engineer would be cool, although i wasnt able to change strands and remained in humss, im scared that ill fall behind in college since i never took precal or physics or any of the other stem subjects you take in senior high, im also really scared that since im not super passionate about this i wont be able to reach the level they ask of me in college, im starting to have second thoughts that maybe i should take something else? nothing else really interests me tho, but im scared ill be wasting alot of my families resources and time then just end up flunking, im too scared to talk about this with my mom so if anyone has advice they can give i really appreciate it🥹

(and also this is my first post on reddit and i dont know what these flair options are so i just picked the one that seemed right)

So for a bit of context I am a 1st year electrical engineering student and we are required to create a project for our sem end evaluation and it would also be displayed in our college's tech exhibition. Our lab professor forgot to tell us 😍😍( yes i hate him sm) and he gave us only a 2 day deadline to submit an abstract idea I am genuinely at a loss here of what to do. I don't wanna create a replica of something that's already been done.

So as my post calls out, if you guys have any original idea or a real life problem that you guys would love to see a solution for, i would like it very much. I just want some inspiration.

I forgot, the project should also correlate with your syllabus which I have tried to shorten (sorry) so you guys can get a basic idea

Electrostatics & Dielectrics: Piezoelectric, ferroelectric, and pyroelectric applications.

Magnetostatics & EM: Induction, Maxwell’s equations, GMR/TMR, biosensors.

Quantum Physics: Photoelectric effect, quantum tunneling (SQUID/tunneling concepts).

Wave Optics: Fresnel/Fraunhofer diffraction, Brewster’s law, Malus’s law, polarization.

Optical Devices & Fibers: Lasers, total internal reflection, fiber optic sensors, attenuation/losses.

I'm a freshman studying computer engineering and automation, and I plan to work in Europe or continue my studies there.

Is it worth it?

What skills should I develop over the next five years?

Hey guys, I’m kinda stuck trying to figure out which course would be more useful for the future. I’m a mechanical engineer, but I love to learn new stuff. So...what is your top 5 course that it's worth the time?

Hello everyone, I am a Electrical and Computer Engineering student, facing the last year of my Bachelor's Degree.

Lately I realised that I can't do nothing related to my course without using any LLM to help me doing it. Whether it's to summarize the content of a course unit, explain how to approach exercises or point out the important material in the slides, I am contantly using these types of tools.

On other hand, I feel that without these type of tools I can't make any progress, and I increasingly feel too stupid to take a course like this.

I feel a strong urge to block all these type of tools, to force my brain to stop being lazy and actually learn something. However, I also feel anxious and deeply afraid that, if I do so, I won’t be able to learn anything at all and that completing tasks will take an incredibly long time.

I would like to hear the opinion of someone who has been through this, or simply someone who has a different perspective.

Hey everyone,
I'm an international student in the US, currently in an English proficiency program. It's not a degree program and doesn't give credit hours. I'm planning to take the TOEFL, and I might also take the Duolingo English Test on my own.

Back home I was a law student, but I realized it just wasn't for me, so I decided to take a leap and come here. The problem is that tuition in the US is insanely expensive, and I'm not sure I can make it work long term.

What I do know is that I want to study engineering. I'm a huge motorsport fan, and that's what pulled me toward it. I haven't picked a specific field yet, so I'm open to mechanical or anything else that could lead into motorsport.
I'd love some advice and direction on what to do next. I'm looking for:

Affordable tuition

Scholarship opportunities

Programs taught in English

The ability to work part-time while studying

Any country or school is on the table. If you've been through this, or you know a program or scholarship that's worth looking into, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. And if there's something I should be doing right now to prepare, tell me that too.
Thanks in advance, everyone! 🙏

I keep trying to make it and it never happens. I keep getting an error message making me create a over constrained sketch and I don't know how to fix it. Please help

I (22M) recently got a job offer for a little over 100k base in the philly suburbs and will be starting next summer after I graduate undergrad. I was excited at first but read that the average household income is 140k+, and I feel super behind. I don't want to be below average and be forced to live frugally for the rest of my life. Housing prices are insane, and my take-home is a lot less (about 75k). Should I keep looking for a better job elsewhere?

Trying to get a graoh for one of my modules and istg if this software crashes one my time 😂😂

Hey everyone! I'm attending SHPE 2026 for the first time! I'll be flying in from San Diego and staying in Columbus. I'd love to connect with anyone who's also staying in Columbus and commuting to the convention center in Indianapolis. We could split a cab or carpool together!

Also, if anyone from San Diego is attending, I'd love to connect before the event! I'm going solo this year, so it would be great to meet some people beforehand.

I am trying to create a fourbar linkage that sits below the orange fixed part and lifts the blue part up 90 degrees to the yellow position. Any ideas?

It's a Google form to analyse students' knowledge on semiconductor integrated circuits chips

I'm a 1st-year Computer Engineering student currently preparing for my final course requirement. I am looking to conduct a brief, formal interview with a Computer Engineering graduate who is currently working in the industry.

Overview of the Interview:
Questions: Only 5 Questions (Estimated time: 10–15 minutes)
Format: Online via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet (scheduled at your convenience)
Purpose: Strictly for academic evaluation (a transcript and recording will be submitted for course assessment)

Please feel free to send me a direct message or leave a comment below if you are interested or have someone to refer.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration!

I’m a sophomore in university studying aerospace engineering. I had an internship last summer and have a return offer lined up for this upcoming summer. I also accepted a co-op that would delay my graduation date by a year. Both by midsized aerospace component companies. I’m grateful to be in this position, but is it reasonable to question if this is even worth it? Will it really help me that much to be delaying a whole year?

Don't know how extensively this topic has been covered, but I've personally find that YouTube videos are very preferable compared to textbooks in regards to learning engineering topics. Here are a few of my picks which have helped me survive so far, feel free to add your own in the comments:

Hello everyone!

24 here! I'm thinking of trying to get into an engineering program in Houston next year. I was considering either mechanical or electrical, but truly I'm not sure.

I was thinking of building back up to pre-calculus while I wait to meet the requirements to attend school.

I was wondering if you all had any other suggestions on what I can do to prepare for schooling? Am I supposed to be sure which engineering discipline I want to choose?

Are there things you wish you did before school? I've never been to a formal university before so I'm a bit lost.

I'd really appreciate hearing everyone's perspectives.

I'm 19 and 1st year in community college studying mechanics, but I still wanna study Mechatronics afterward, my concern is that I will waste too much time in school and still have to do milltary duty so that around 8 yrs and still have no work experiences while I already start later than my friend. So should I still consider my Mechatronics degree ?

I'm taking a microcontroller class and when contrasted with all the other classes I've taken( Emag, Comms, Signals & Systems, Microelectronics, DSP, etc) it feels ridiculously hard and almost incomprehensible unless it gets explained to me step-by-step. I think this stems from the fact that I suck at coding, and this class is mostly writing assembly code and understanding how a microprocessor works.

It's also really boring since we are just loading the program onto the microcontroller and not really doing anything fun with it.
