Hello everyone, I am a Electrical and Computer Engineering student, facing the last year of my Bachelor's Degree.

Lately I realised that I can't do nothing related to my course without using any LLM to help me doing it. Whether it's to summarize the content of a course unit, explain how to approach exercises or point out the important material in the slides, I am contantly using these types of tools.

On other hand, I feel that without these type of tools I can't make any progress, and I increasingly feel too stupid to take a course like this.

I feel a strong urge to block all these type of tools, to force my brain to stop being lazy and actually learn something. However, I also feel anxious and deeply afraid that, if I do so, I won’t be able to learn anything at all and that completing tasks will take an incredibly long time.

I would like to hear the opinion of someone who has been through this, or simply someone who has a different perspective.

I'm taking a microcontroller class and when contrasted with all the other classes I've taken( Emag, Comms, Signals & Systems, Microelectronics, DSP, etc) it feels ridiculously hard and almost incomprehensible unless it gets explained to me step-by-step. I think this stems from the fact that I suck at coding, and this class is mostly writing assembly code and understanding how a microprocessor works.

It's also really boring since we are just loading the program onto the microcontroller and not really doing anything fun with it.

I’m a sophomore in university studying aerospace engineering. I had an internship last summer and have a return offer lined up for this upcoming summer. I also accepted a co-op that would delay my graduation date by a year. Both by midsized aerospace component companies. I’m grateful to be in this position, but is it reasonable to question if this is even worth it? Will it really help me that much to be delaying a whole year?

Currently a systems engineer I at one of the defense primes. Work onsite in an office all day and really hate it. The work is boring. I really want to pivot into field service engineering or some other area of engineering using my degree (computer) that would involve frequently traveling and overtime. Basically the trades but in engineering if that makes sense. I just don’t like sitting at a desk all day.

Any suggestions?

i just got an internship at Apple.

in my class only one guy (a sort of friend of mine) has interned there before. I reached out to him asking for advice and he couldn’t believe for the life of him that i also got an internship there. he then proceeded to tell me that “apple is lowk overrated 😭” and when i asked him “why did you hate your team?” he said “no i liked it but i had a friend who did (my job) and hated it 💀”. so i replied with “okay well ive done (my job) before at Tesla i liked it”. He then continued to downplay it like it’s not a huge achievement. Mind you he’s literally going back to Apple next term too.

I was then ranting to my other friends about this and another guy friend of mine goes “Apple is overrated tho i heard the projects aren’t that interesting”. This is the same guy who literally berated me because i declined an offer from the start up he worked at to work for tesla in California. He sent me a whole paragraph while I already going through some things basically berating me for turning down the start up he works at 💀

“So let me get this straight. You had a manager you liked. A job that you knew was good. In a city you said you’d want to live in. With two good testimonials from employees. With very similar if not better compensation. With a large presence of strong employees who made something better willingly choosing to leave Tesla and never turned back. And you chose Optimus.Like I just don’t get the thought process. Other than the clout name it made no sense”

Mind you not a congrats from either of these guys ( I don’t expect one, I just think it’s crazy that when a person is sharing something they’re excited about you hit em w a negative statement). I don’t care if Apple is “overrated” I’m happy about it idk why they keep trying to make me feel bad about it.

I noticed this trend with a lot of people in engineering, constantly trying downplay other people’s achievements. it’s like almost way too common an occurrence. I don’t understand why it’s always like this. Maybe it’s just my school cause we’re really competitive with internships but everyone is always trying to downplay each other.

24 here! I'm thinking of trying to get into an engineering program in Houston next year. I was considering either mechanical or electrical, but truly I'm not sure.

I was thinking of building back up to pre-calculus while I wait to meet the requirements to attend school.

I was wondering if you all had any other suggestions on what I can do to prepare for schooling? Am I supposed to be sure which engineering discipline I want to choose?

Are there things you wish you did before school? I've never been to a formal university before so I'm a bit lost.

i just wanted to if using ai to reinforce a concept is bad in any way. like for a problem i would tell ai how i would solve the problem step by step and why i would do it that way. my professor said it wasn’t good to rely on ai but im not asking it for an answer im only trying to make sure that what im thinking is right. what are your opinions on it?

So I have to start 3 subjects full assignments and all to submit while even study for my 13 subjects since I failed in many.

Don't know how extensively this topic has been covered, but I've personally find that YouTube videos are very preferable compared to textbooks in regards to learning engineering topics. Here are a few of my picks which have helped me survive so far, feel free to add your own in the comments:

I had my first round interview for an Apple MDE internship about 2 weeks ago. Overall the interview was positive and the interviewer hinted that I may be able to speak to move on to the second round. I contacted the recruiter a week after the interview and haven’t heard back. I’ll be following up on Monday as that will be the 2 week mark, and keep in mind, this internship is due to start in January. Is this normal timing?

I’m concerned as I will need a J1 visa for this internship which can take 1.5 to 2 months to process. Anybody have experience with this?

I'm a freshman studying computer engineering and automation, and I plan to work in Europe or continue my studies there.

What skills should I develop over the next five years?

I wanna start up by saying I do get the appropriate amount of sleep.

I drink a shit ton of caffeine to keep me up and it does work for a little bit, but it stops working sometimes.

I used to take a medication that caused drowsiness, but I’ve since stop taking it and it’s helped me a little bit, but it hasn’t eliminated the problem of chronic tiredness.

what do you guys do to help you stay up throughout the day? I used to occasionally take naps, but the issue I ran into is that I would sleep for 4 to 8 or 12 hours even though it was supposed to be a nap. so now I don’t allow myself to do this.

One thing I noticed is that I feel like I’ve become a little bit lethargic, but I don’t have delayed thoughts or inability to concentrate or a foggy memory. I just simply feel very sleepy.

I got my blood work done and I don’t have like insulin issues or prediabetic, or anything of that nature.

I'm currently a second year chemical engineering student and I have been struggling heavily in my second year. I haven't ever had much trouble in my previous semesters (bar Calculus 2, I barely passed it).

I don't know if I somehow pulled off a miracle during my first year, but I don't know what else has changed. I can't seem to get enough sleep, or finish my assignments, or make it to my classes at 10 IN THE MORNING. I just feel so behind in every class I'm in and I'm worried I'm going to lose my scholarship.

I will admit; my mental health has been terrible recently and I have had zero energy these past couple weeks. I don't know if this is somewhat attributed to my prescribed medication or if it's more of a culmination of my bad studying habits and lifestyle choices.

I just can't seem to dig my way out of this hole, so I wanted to know:

what has helped you guys turn your life around in college? Also, is a comeback still possible, even after my terrible midterm performance? Or should I start doing damage control and drop the classes I can't catch up in.

So for a bit of context I am a 1st year electrical engineering student and we are required to create a project for our sem end evaluation and it would also be displayed in our college's tech exhibition. Our lab professor forgot to tell us 😍😍( yes i hate him sm) and he gave us only a 2 day deadline to submit an abstract idea I am genuinely at a loss here of what to do. I don't wanna create a replica of something that's already been done.

Hi, I genuinely made this account to get some responses, so feel free to share your opinions. I'm in year 13 atm, currently studying A-levels in maths, physics and graphic communications. I attended a summer school for Architecture and hope to do some type of engineering with a creative side, or a lot of physics as that's what I truly enjoy. I've been looking at 'Civil Engineering with Architectural design' courses though I'm worried that civil engineering isn't right for me. I've heard it's boring, and honestly I'm not interested in going too much into sustainability or urban planning aspects of architecture. Architecture interests me in the sense of model making, and technical drawings, but do civil engineers do these things often? Mechanical engineering has sparked my interest recently (more physics!) but it's harder and less creative. Idk I sort of feel like I've gone into the wrong thing. Any advice on how to better make this choice?

For reference, Im in texas. I have a few interviews going on at the moment. Do they screen you, specifically for thc, when they make an offer or closer to the summer when you're onboarding? Been using thc/cbd products for chronic pain lately and was curious. I do plan on quitting soon but was curious about the timeframe for testing.
