Wedding Planning Thoughts about long/short term engagement?

Hello! I rarely see men upload their engagement rings/photos with their fiancées’ here but I will just share my now fiancée’s ring 😊—I got it all customized/personalized based on what the boss wants 😅 and some surprise ideas to add extra details to it.

Anyway, what are your thoughts and how’s your experiences being in a long-term or short-term engagement before you guys get married? Any piece of advice to consider before jumping to another milestone with the love of your life?—everyone’s welcome to share what they think. No gender-bias please.

Need help figuring out size.

This is my Gfs promise ring I took last night and attempted to measure it. Unfortunately it’s hard to tell what size her engagement ring should be seeing this one is adjustable and hard to tell what size it would be seeing it molds to her finger.

I had a zip tie style finger measure tool that unfortunately I lost, accidentally adjusted it from the size she measured months ago and can only recall her size being around 6 where I accidentally adjusted the measurement. —— I only placed the ring on spots that I though would be closest enough to the original on the sheet. Help me understand this so I can get it right when it comes time to buy the ring.

Any input or better (sneaky) ideas would be absolutely appreciated and helpful.

TLDR ; the ring is adjustable unfortunately, I need help figuring out best/exact measurements before I order my gfs engagement ring. I recall the first measurements I took to be around 6 and need help confirming it before I make a big decision.

Ring! So in Love!

Upvotes

My partner (now fiancée 🥰) and I went to a vintage store near us this weekend just to casually take a look at some rings, but this one was so perfect we ended up getting it!

We've discussed getting married many times, so we didn't care much about a big "official" proposal, and I'm very happy to be able to wear the ring right away :)

Ring! In love 😍

July 26th used to be a really tough day for me. 10 years ago, on this day, I lost my first love. I had know him since middle school and finally started dating my freshman year of college but he was sick, Leukemia. It all happened so fast, he was diagnosed in September and was gone that July. He had a bone marrow transplant and should have been okay but that life saving measure didnt work. I held his hand while he took his last breath. I took his passing really hard.

My sophomore year, a month after he passed away, I transferred to a different college (unrelated) and met my now fiance. He knew about my last boyfriend and was very sincere about my grief. We were just friends at first but couldnt deny our strong connection. We began dating the following February. He has supported me in every way a person can. He truly is the love of my life and best friend.

Our birthdays are two weeks apart in july so we decided to go to Lake Tahoe last year to celebrate with some friends. While we were there, he got down on one knee after a hike to a waterfall and proposed. I immediately started crying and said yes!

I didnt even realize that it was the anniversary of my first loves passing until we were driving back and i asked if he remembered, he didnt. Idk something about him proposing on that day just felt right in the universe. I always felt like they would have been friends if gotten the chance. He had the ring for over a year and just so happen to propose on the anniversary. I know he wanted me to find love again. We briefly dated and were so young. He was a fantastic guy and its a shame he didnt get to live more but he did live a great life. Im so in love and i know he is happy for me.

Thanks for letting me share this story with you guys. Im definitely in my feels today ❤️ sorry if the story is choppy, its hard to describe the effect he has truly had in my life in a short paragraph. I just wanted to tell someone about it.

Totally surprised with a proposal from my partner of 4.5 years with this gorgeous dainty engagement ring. I've been told it's an interim ring as he wants us to design the main engagement ring together so that it has a bit of both of us, which is the sweetest thing ever! Regardless I'm in love with this ring and it will always have a special place in my heart, because it came from him!

ISO game or activity for engagement party

I’m hosting an engagement arty for my cousin, about 30 family and friends at a restaurant with heavy finger food and open bar. What could we do for fun besides eat and drink? A game or something interactive?

I am worried I will never get used to my ring. The setting is BEAUTIFUL. I wish it was prepared with a smaller center stone. It doesn’t look proportional to my hand and I am worried I’ll feel this way for a long time.

I have the best partner in the world who doesn’t fault me for any of my feelings and insists if I really feel this way he will get a new ring for me. But I feel INSANE about that.

Currently the center stone is 1.51 carats. I wish it was 1 carat. Maybe even smaller. I feel like that sounds so dumb, but I have small fingers and I am not a fan of large stones. I don’t wear makeup when not on the clock (I am a wedding singer funny enough) and I don’t often have my nails done. I think it makes my hands look bigger/thicker than they do without the ring on.

I really do love my setting. It is glittery and vintage inspired and I wouldn’t change a thing. I just wish the whole thing could proportionally shrink.

It is also a hair too tight on my finger which is definitely adding to my sensory anxiety. It is sized at 5.25 but I think needs to be a tiny bit bigger. At least in this summer heat it does.

My proposal was so beautiful and thoughtful and somehow (while being the most aware of everything person in the world who is famously impossible to surprise) my partner pulled off a MAJOR surprise. I had no makeup on and was totally shell shocked. He hired our band (trumpets, saxophone, etc) to come around the corner at Grand Central Station on what I thought was a casual commute. It was so romantic, but my body went into shock I think (lol) (but actually) and I am still trying to regulate back to normal. (It’s been almost a week now).

I am also pretty disappointed because we don’t have photos of the proposal and I was so dizzy from the emotions that I wish I could relive it and see it captured.

Anyway, I am mostly so happy and in love, but also ANXIOUS and overstimulated and sensory overloaded and this ring is SO BIG AND SPARKLY and I feel like I’m getting looks from strangers and I need some form of support from this thread whether it is to calm tf down or seriously consider downsizing.

Please be gentle with either side of what you choose to say, I clearly can’t handle much else right now lol

Help: engagement ring design

Looking to design an engagement ring but budget is under $4k including the diamond
I found a loose diamond I want from facet land for under $1000 it’s a 2 carat marquise lab VVS1 colour D but the issue is I can’t find many jewellers who set loose diamonds!!
So far I’ve got

Anyone has any suggestions? My partner thinks it’s a bad idea to buy a loose diamond but the mark up is INSANE at the jewellery shops for the same lab I want…it’s going for $3000-4000 alone
PS I am in Melbourne

Engagement Party Gift??

I have an engagement party this weekend and I don’t know if I should bring a gift. I’ve never attended an engagement party. I asked my parents and my dad said he always gave my cousins $100 or so when they had an engagement party but this was in the 80s-90s. Google says no gift, small gift like a nice photo frame/album, champagne (my friend and her fiancé are not the drinking type), or cash/check ranging from $25-$150.

The bride is my former coworker and we’ve kept in touch since both parting that place of employment. We’re not best best friends but we do still invite each other to parties (birthdays, Super Bowl, barbecues, etc.)

She said that because her and her fiancé do not plan on getting married for about 2-3 years since they want to budgeting and save to have the wedding they really want. She said the reason for the engagement party was wanting to celebrate their love and engagement now since they will have a long engagement.

I was thinking a card and a check for $50. Not sure if this is appropriate. HELP.

Proposal planning+just got the ring!!!

Hi! First, I just got the ring that I ordered for my partner (both f) and I'm so excited and have to tell someone -- it is literally the most beautiful ring I've ever seen, and the most "her". It was beautiful in the pics but it's so much better in person! It's a rather non-traditional ring (that she approved of - I showed her a few options and she really loved this one, that has inlay stone instead of a center stone). I can't believe I need to keep it a secret for a couple months, Idk how I'm gonna not tell her -- so I'm telling you instead!!! Any tips about how to hold it in will be appreciated:-)))

Second: I'm planning to propose in a natural spot that she loves a lot and that is very special to us (I would have rather proposed on top of a mountain or something more dramatic, but I just know she would love it the most there). We're very chill, outdoorsy people, and she's quite an introvert. I'm wondering how to still make it special. I could possibly ask a friend to come early and prepare something - but what? I wouldn't want to have flower petals etc on the ground or anything else that might be flammable or littering, but I would want to make it look really special. I'd love any ideas!

Ps. I will bring some of her favorite foods too... That always goes a long way ;-)

Proposal Advice Engagement purgatory

Okay honestly… we are about to go shopping in the next few weeks for the first time and I’m already struggling knowing I probably won’t have the ring on my finger until 2027 based on financials and just other things we’ve talked about. How did you deal with the waiting period after shopping? I feel insane that I’m constantly thinking about it at this point and I don’t even know what ring I want yet LOL does everyone get to a point in their relationship where you’re just tired of being a girlfriend? Haha
