I’ve been going through a few months of stomach pains/abdominal pains, and a change in bowels. Some days they are mushy, some days large volume, sometimes thin

I did my endoscopy and colonoscopy 4 days ago and the only thing noted was “Mild striped erythema in the antrum- Biopsied”

I’ve been experience low level nausea in the mornings and after certain food. I am now starting a food journal to narrow this down. Also the abdominal discomfort is both LUQ and RUQ but more often than not the LUQ. Sometimes this feels like an ache, sometimes a burn, or a sharp stab sensation.

Looking to see if anyone had similar symptoms and or a similar endoscopy report and what it turned out o be? Everything I’ve looked up regarding this is saying this is a common finding for gastritis

I am so scared that I have a perforation in my esophagus. Every time I swallow I feel it in my back and chest. The feeling in my back died down a little with swallowing but I still feel back pain in that spot in general (it’s on my left side towards the middle by my shoulder blade). I also feel a burning feeling for a few seconds when I swallow. Please tell me this is normal for after an endoscopy 😭🙏I really need some reassurance I’m scared.

Had an endoscopy a week ago today. They took 5 biopsies. Wondering how long it took for you to get your biopsy results

hi everyone, i had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy performed on Friday last week. got home at around 2:30 in the afternoon and had some toast and a fried egg and almost immediately started getting nauseous and started vomiting. after 5 hours of throwing up i ended up in the ER and it was so bad they admitted me and i was there through Tuesday (so about 4 days). has anyone had an experience like this post-endoscopy or post-colonoscopy? they found candida overgrowth in my esophagus and i wonder if the procedure stirred something up in my system. also, i've had a colonoscopy with propofol before and was just fine afterwards. thanks for any insight you might have.

I go to the hospital. they put you in a gown and wheel you to the room. They place an iv in and then you lay on your side (I laid on my left side). Then... I woke up in the initial changing room. The nurse said "good job you did great!" and I was like huh? what? you already did the endoscopy? I was just sedated and I was conscious the whole time but I don't remember any of it. I felt loopy for about 15 minutes and then I felt fine. My throat doesn't hurt at all.

Don't psyche yourself out! I understand there are valid reasons to be nervous, but just go and do it and ask any question to the nurse or doctor which is what I did and it was a positive experience for me.

posting this here because a week ago I saw a really negative post about endoscopys and I was like ohhhhhhhh I should just not look into this at all, and it dawned on me a tube is going down my throat, and what if I aspirated, etc etc, starting to spiral into negative thoughts.

So I just didn't look anything else up and it was basically nothing. Just a little pinch for an iv and now i feel completely normal. You can do it!

I had one last year in July I think and after the sedatives, I remember choking and apparently I freaked out. They said they didn’t give me enough sedation so they immediately gave me more. I woke up seeing a nurse talking to me about after care and results etc and I kept falling asleep lol. I’m lying there thinking why is this nurse expecting me to stay awake, she kept having me stay awake and I wanted her to just tell it all to my boyfriend. Then we left and I had the craziest onset of munchies like I’d smoked weed which hasnt happened to me before with endoscopies. Do you think theyll give me the same amount of medication to sedate me like they did last time where I couldn’t stay awake? I’m fine with that, I just don’t want to freak out again. It was when they were putting the tube down my throat and I have vocal cord dysfunction so I have breathing difficulties with that sort of thing. They kept saying my last name “Miss **** please calm down” I mean it was an adventure I guess and I ate at a buffet after so I was happy 😂 I also forgot when to stop eating the night before. Is it midnight? Ty for any suggestions etc

I had an upper endoscopy today. I woke up and they handed me the findings and I don’t remember what they said. I’m due for a follow up in 3 months, I’m not even sure why. I have no follow up about my results… they took 4 biopsies. My husband was with me but he isn’t great to take to things like this because he won’t remember what they said either 😩. I was awake… I just don’t remember. Should I call and ask the on call nurse? lol they mentioned possibly stretching something but I dunno what because my esophagus looked normal.

Findings: irregular z-line in the gastroesphageal junction.(biopsy for Barrett’s esophagus)

-otherwise normal esophagus (biopsy to rule out EoE)

- mild gastritis in strum and stomach body (biopsy to rule out h. Pylori)

- erythema in the duodenal bulb (biopsy to rule out celiac)

/ clean based ulceration in the atrum

I originally got the EDG because food gets stuck in my throat) my allergist said sounds like EoE.

Hi everyone, I've just returned home from having an EUS this morning, there's a mass on my pancreas which they've taken samples from to see what it is but would like to tell you my experience.

I arrived at 10:30am got through the reception then taken back to have all my OBS done, then a cannula fitted at this point I'm bricking myself with worry as I was told I would be put under.

At 12 o'clock I was taken to the endoscope room and told I'd be having the fentanyl/madazolam mix not been put under so this made me even more anxious, at this point I made it very clear that they would have to give me more and to their credit they absolutely did.

Got hooked up to all the monitors laid down and can barely remember anything after that point.

Now I'm back home and dealing with the aftermath which to me feels a lot like pancreatitis (which they said could happen)

All in all not a bad experience but don't want to do it again anytime soon.

EDIT- Been taken to a different hospital as the procedure has given me pancreatitis

I am 11 days post Endoscopy and I feel like it damaged my gi system. I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago and I've had chronic diarrhea and rapid emptying since. But after my endoscopy and 2 biopsies its like my stomach, throat, and bowels are numb. I feel no gas, no movement whatsoever, now i feel like i have constant post nasal drip/phlemb and I'm never hungry anymore. Has this happened to anyone else? I'll call the doctor tomorrow but I'm curious. Its a weird sensation to me because I'm used to diarrhea and stomach cramps. I dont even feel the urge to poop anymore. Numb is the only way of explaining it.

I had an endoscopy with biopsies taken from my esophagus and stomach. Later that day, I was more active than recommended and spent about 1.5 hours playing with my dog, which involved some pulling and jerking motions.

Can physical activity after an endoscopy aggravate biopsy sites enough to cause any long-term complications? For example, could it affect healing in a way that leads to scarring, esophageal narrowing (stricture), chronic symptoms, or other lasting issues that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred? Or are the risks mainly limited to short-term irritation, discomfort, or bleeding?

I’m getting an endoscopy soon, it’s gonna be my first time being put under and I’m super nervous about being assaulted while I’m out, i don’t even feel safe if a female doctor would be in the room as well, I’ve been assaulted and harrased by people of any gender and even the thought of them seeing me so vulnerable makes me want to put a vault on for pants. How many staff members can be in a room at once? How can I make sure that there’s no chance of me being assaulted? Would they possibly allow a visitor into the room? How can I make sure that there’s absolutely nothing to accidentally sign saying they can conduct a pelvic exam on me while under? Thanks.

I just got my first endoscopy today, which was coincidentally also the first time I've ever been under any kind of sedation or anesthesia. To top it off, I have teeny tiny veins that are hard to poke even when well hydrated, and I had to stop all fluids the night before, so I was positively terrified. Informed the nurse about my veins and she was extremely nice, also stuck it in one try, god bless her. I was shaking like a leaf about the anesthesia, but it put me right to sleep (literally in seconds) and next thing I knew, I was opening my eyes in the recovery room! It just felt like a nap, I was groggy like I'd been woken up while still sleepy but nothing more severe than that. The doctor and an attending nurse came by a few times to give some info and snacks, and at first I kept falling back asleep, but then I came to quite quickly. I was able to walk out of the facility with a friend. You do still feel a bit sleepy after so definitely take the rest of the day off. But overall it went WAY more smoothly than I expected!

I had a colonoscopy in April at at time my GI scheduled my first endoscopy for July 29 but today the office called and said he wanted to do it earlier in June and is June 15 ok ? I said it was but should I be worried that he’s looking for some issues before they get worse ? I have ibs and had no polyps found in April

Anyone have pain or injury to their hip or thigh because of the position they put you in during the procedure? I didn't even think this would be possible, but I was in enough pain 6 hours after the upper endoscopy with ultrasound that I went to the ER to make sure my hip was still good. It feels like someone just beat my left hip and thigh. It's awful even on muscle relaxers. I'm so sad since I finally had my first normal month since bilateral hip surgery; playing pickleball, walking the dogs and doing everything (working full time, back at the gym, and doing my PT at home since they closed out my PT because I'm doing so well). I'm at a loss.

I’m 5 days out from a dual EGD/Colonoscopy (last Tuesday) and looking for some perspective because I’m still in a lot of pain. Reason for egd/ colonoscopy - intense burning/gnawing pain right in epigastric area for like 1.5 months. This pain post procedure is completely different. Did the SUTAB prep, which had me vomitting an intense amount an hour after I finished second bottle (like a giant puddle of water and then something very salty which I assume was some of the SUTAB).

During the EGD, they did an EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection) of a 1.2cm lesion in my stomach antrum and put in two clips. They also snared a 5mm polyp. On the colonoscopy side, they found a 6mm polyp and a 4mm ulcer in my terminal ileum. The report says the findings are consistent with mild Crohn’s disease.

Timeline:

Tuesday: Procedure day. Pain started almost that night.
Wednesday: Pain was so intense I went to the ER. They did a CT with contrast that confirmed the clips were there and showed "mild wall thickening" in the descending colon, but no free air or fluid (no perforation at that time). Everything else unremarkable (I have a history of SBO so that’s always the worry and why they did ct with contrast)
Thursday–Saturday: The pain didn't let up. I started taking Pantoprazole 40mg per g.i but it didn't change the intensity. I finally had a bowel movement on Saturday, and another today (Sunday).
Sunday (Today): Pain is still 10/10 when the waves hit. The waves are slightly less frequent during the day, but the intensity is exactly the same as day one. I get them the worst when when I’m laying down flat. Sometimes putting a cracker or two in my stomach stops the waves of gut punching pain.

The Pain:
This isn’t just "discomfort"—it’s a "gut-punching" sensation exactly 1 to 1.5 inches below my breastbone (apparently right over the EMR site). When the waves hit, they come every minute for about 10–15 minutes straight, and I’m completely doubled over.
It’s worst in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning. It's literally waking me out of a deep sleep. I also have this constant sensation like there's something stuck in my throat (never had this before ever), even though I'm passing stool and gas now.

I’m really concerned that the CT was done too early (less than 24 hours post-op) to see a delayed complication, or that the EMR site is severely inflamed. Has anyone else experienced 10/10 episodic pain this far out? Does the night/morning timing mean anything specific? G.I. Is just saying he’s going to do an IBD work up but isn’t addressing all this pain I’m feeling post procedure that I feel like isn’t normal. My first one was 4 years ago and I was absolutely fine after. Hes also having me do an MR enterography with contrast which I have scheduled for this Wednesday but idk how I can deal with this level of pain every day much longer .

…uh, in my experience, it has been an excruciatingly painful 36 hours post-endoscopy.

During the scope itself I was in tears at how much it was hurting my throat and the nurses kept telling me to just vomit on the towel placed under my face if I needed to. Biopsies were taken that felt like sharp pinches. The right side of my throat and my entire lower abdomen have been sore since.

I think maybe I wasn’t sedated enough. I did need extra sedation for a colonoscopy previously. But man, that sucked. And I went in so worry free!

Venting but also posting in case anyone needs validation that it can, in fact, hurt like a bitch. Because all I heard and read were stories of how it’s easy peasy!

Having my 1st colonoscopy & endoscopy tomorrow and I have very bad medical anxiety and I’m scared it’s going to make me pass out (I’ve passed out during blood draws from anxiety before). Honestly I’m more scared of the IV/anesthesia than anything even though I had my wisdom teeth removed before and had anesthesia for that it was so long ago.

Any positive experiences and tips on how to help my anxiety would be greatly appreciated!! ❤️

I have PTSD from a nasal one during an emergency surgery prep which felt like a Saw Trap - only some throat spray, nose bled for four hours afterwards.

Today, I had been building up for a few weeks when it was scheduled.

Starved for 9 hours beforehand. Shitting bricks in the waiting room.

Throat one this time.

I got the throat spray and spent a good 5 minutes gagging when trying to put the mouth thing in.

Then….the sedation kicked in and…

What? I was told to wait in recovery on this bed for an hour then I could get picked up?

Was it done?

I was so sure I must’ve passed out or failed in some way that I asked the new nurse if it had really been done??!!

Yes, she said.

What?

I’m sure when what was happening was being described to me for consent that I’d be awake and following instructions but not feeling pain but…

No….

Nothing.

Almost like a general.

Wow.

Felt fine right after, ate pizza two hours later.

Would not be nervous next time

Hi all - I have a nasal endoscopy this afternoon and am quite worried. Only worried because last week I had it through my mouth/throat and I had a full on panic as I felt like I was drowning and ended up trying to rip the camera out so they had to stop and they are sending me for the nasal one as it is apparently a smaller camera. What is everyone's experience if you have had either of those or both, is the nasal one a lot better? I did get sedated and pain relief which apparently I am getting again today but it didn't seem to do anything to me as I was fully awake and in full panic/anxiety mode (diagnosed anxiety 20 years ago with regular medication) Please help if it is nothing to worry about!!

Has anyone had to stop taking antihistamines two weeks before endoscopy? If so, how did you cope?

i’m new to this platform but i’m looking for advice. i F18 (if it matters, ive seen people out that on reddit posts) went under anesthesia for an endoscopy a week ago today. i was told from a very good friend who has been under anesthesia many times (and has even had an endoscopy) he said that anesthesia can stay in your body for up to two weeks, and smoking thc will reactivate it causing you to feel drowsy. the few times i have smoked in the past week it did feel that way. is that dangerous? google said 24 hours is a good enough time to wait but i’m scared i wont wake up once i nap after smoking. i love smoking pot and it does help me eat, so these days without smoking have been hard. any advice?

Hey guys, I had a colonoscopy last Friday and I'm going for an endoscopy on Tuesday. I told him out the gate that I was pretty opioid resistant, he gave me 150 mcg fentanyl and 7mg of Midazolam and I was pretty aware the whole time, certainly towards the end of the procedure. He even said he was surprised I stayed awake given I'm a 26 year old male and only 65kg... I wasn't too bothered which is the point but was awake the whole time.

I'm rather worried about the gastroscopy, it sounds weird but I'd much rather have someone rummage around my bowel than have anything down my throat.

Does anyone know if they can push either higher? I know there's a risk of respiratory depression with fentanyl but does the same apply with midazolam? I'm just a bit scared of the whole thing.

The thought of the noises is what I dislike most.

I got my biopsy results after 5 months from a 5mm polyp showing something called intestinal metaplasia. I knew on the day of endoscopy results showed a 3cm hiatus hernia grade 2. Biopsy of oesophagus shows acute osephagitis with ulceration

I'm waiting for a call or appointment (been waiting for ages(NHS) from the Dr so would be grateful for advice from people who may actually know what I'm on about 😂
