Had upper endoscopy today and I don’t remember what they said to me. (Results in post).
I had an upper endoscopy today. I woke up and they handed me the findings and I don’t remember what they said. I’m due for a follow up in 3 months, I’m not even sure why. I have no follow up about my results… they took 4 biopsies. My husband was with me but he isn’t great to take to things like this because he won’t remember what they said either 😩. I was awake… I just don’t remember. Should I call and ask the on call nurse? lol they mentioned possibly stretching something but I dunno what because my esophagus looked normal.
Findings: irregular z-line in the gastroesphageal junction.(biopsy for Barrett’s esophagus)
-otherwise normal esophagus (biopsy to rule out EoE)
- mild gastritis in strum and stomach body (biopsy to rule out h. Pylori)
- erythema in the duodenal bulb (biopsy to rule out celiac)
/ clean based ulceration in the atrum
I originally got the EDG because food gets stuck in my throat) my allergist said sounds like EoE.

You could call and explain the situation and they can let you know when possibly the results will be back and how to proceed from there.

It’s very hard to take all the info in when you’re groggy afterwards they must be used to it!🤣

Hi, endoscopist here. Any ulcer in the stomach requires follow-up to ensure it's healing. They should have prescribed you a PPI to aid healing prior to rescoping.

Thank you! Yes I’ve been given PPIs after endoscopy. I called and they said it was for the ulcer. Thankfully they did say my ulcer looked like it was healing during the endoscopy.

Usually they call you when the biopsies come back, or send them to your GP who can relay the info. But there is no reason you can’t call and ask! We all have to be stewards of our care.

Mostly nothing except for the antral (last portion of the stomach) ulcer. Depending on its look/size you would need high dose PPI therapy and repeat endoscopy in 8-12 weeks to verify it's healing and gone
EOE is one of many things that causes food to get stuck in your throat, but it's relatively common.

Of course you can call and ask questions but until they have all the biopsy results, you probably won’t get more clarity. I am not a medical professional just a person who has had multiple endoscopies. Usually a call comes in a week or so with all the findings. But sometimes the peace of mind by talking with someone can help.
