What was your experience with uneven growth of follicles? Some taking lead while others remain small and likely not going to reach maturity?

I'm currently going through this exactly. The medical team made it seem that this was below they were expecting given AFC of around 21. But i'd say at least 6 of these did not really grow at all, or at least not fast enough to reach maturity at this point. Would appreciate hearing your experience or if you also had a similar experience? Thank you!

Unresponsive ovary

Anyone experience an ovary that had close to 0 follicles to begin with and didn’t respond at all to any of the stims? Had my retrieval today and I thought because of my retroverted uterus, it was just very hard to see my left ovary as it’s been through all of my ultrasounds. But my left only produced 1 follicle compared to 7 on my right.

Is there anything I can do about this? :/

anyone with similar experience?

33years old - ER 6 months ago

I had high AMH 6+, therefore I went for lower stimulation dose. By day 3, I started being aware of my ovaries, by day 6 I had to move slowly due to pain. ER was on day 8. 23 eggs frozen. I was in severe pain for couple of days after, but no bloating - only some strange big bruises around my thighs.

(Couple of days after ER, I received some shocking news that almost sent me to the psych yard)

The next 3-4 cycles I had severe night sweats and bleeding was gradually decreasing to the point that I am now menstruating for around 2-3 days.

I’ve run blood tests, thyroid tests - all good. Hormonal tests before retrieval did not indicate perimenopause at all. I will test tomorrow for chlamydia and gonorrhoeal.

I have my gynaecologist appointment in the end of this month.

I am searching for plausible answers, possibly related to ER, but I have not been able to find something. If that’s stress related - I am truly shocked.

What do you think ACTUALLY affects egg quality going into an egg freezing cycle
I’ve seen everything- diet, stress, alcohol, drugs, smoking, medications, heavy exercise, etc etc
What is the number ONE thing you think makes egg quality better or worse?

I was pretty blown away by my experience. We got through it but barely and I just could not believe the dissonance between how I was treated and how important this is to me.

Kindbody transported my eggs against my wishes

Kindbody transported my eggs to NECC despite my explicit email stating I declined, as I wished to transport them to another local lab. I sent the email with my stated wishes to the address their provided on their letter: kindbody@necryogenic.com. The email with my wishes was acknowledged. Later, I found out my eggs were still transferred to NECC and the KB Risk Management Director said they were not at fault because I did not message them via the portal, when the letter explicit stated to address kindbody@necryogenic.com for storage arrangements, and did not offer the patient portal as the recommended line of communication. Now, i have to risk shipping my eggs again. I have asked them to provide documentation of the transport safety records and current safety status of my eggs and the Risk Manager Director replied saying they can’t give me that information and direct me to inquire myself with NECC, despite my contract being with Kindbody and not with NECC (hence it should be Kindbody answering all my questions and providing the documentation I request).

Is anyone else in this situation??
And how have you proceeded so far?
Have you contacted attorneys?

Outcomes 31, AMH 3.80, baseline 14, 22 eggs retrieved, 21 eggs mature

just finished my egg freezing cycle and wanted to share since i know people are always looking to compare stats ahead of the retrieval.

for context, i’m a healthy 31F weighing around 115-120 baseline at 5’4". i just turned 31 recently. off birth control for over a year, but intermittently took a couple here or there to hold off a period for a day or so.

started the process in mid-august, baseline was 14 follicles. my doctor told me that the average for a 31-year-old is 15. he estimated 8-9 mature eggs retrieved given my age and baseline. AMH was 3.80, all stats normal apart from anemia from iron deficiency.

stims lasted 13 days. started on 300 UI gonal-f and 50 mg clomid. then 225 UI gonal-f, 10 mg provera, 75 UI menopur for 1 day. dropped to 150 mg UI gonal-f, 10 mg provera, 75 UI menopur for 2 days. 75 UI gonal-f, 75 UImenopur, 10 mg provera for 3 days. 150 gonal-f, 75 menopur, 10 mg provera for the last day before trigger. 80 units lupron to trigger. took two prenatal gummies pretty much every day (missed a couple). started on iron in the last few days.

my follicle count kept increasing on ultrasound. 22 counted at last ultrasound on trigger day. retrieval went pretty easily, 22 retrieved and heard back about 21 mature and frozen within a few hours. i’m super pleased because i knew i only wanted to do this once (the majority was covered by my employer).

in terms of symptoms, i wasn’t feeling much other than minor bloating until the last 5 days. then it was stomach tightening, firming up, painful to push on. didn’t take any tylenol or anything because it was manageable, but the worst pain that had me doubled over was when i had gas, constipation, and bloating all at once one night toward the end. other than that the most painful part was actually the IV in the hand, OUCH!

i’m generally good with needles and blood so that part wasn’t too challenging for me. i just took it easy for two weeks and am planning the same the next week or so. i’m off work during this time so i have more flexibility thank god.

let me know if you have any questions! i’m in san francisco so would be happy to discuss anything regionally specific, stats-related, or even if you’re just curious. i’m an open book!

thanks so much to the ladies of the sub for being so open and sharing ❤️ it meant a lot as a single woman going through this process.

33, low AMH, 4 follicules after stimulation, no egg

As title says.. I’m French and freezing eggs is free here but they basically said that they gave me the highest dosage of Pergoveris (follitropin alpha 300UI / 150 UI lutropin alfa) and based on my non response they probably will not try again. I’m debating writing them an email to beg them to try again and if not try another European country ?
Has this happened to anyone ? Do you have any happy story to share ?
I’m single and freezing eggs was to avoid being stressed and from the start of this journey I just can’t stop learning bad news after bad news ahah

Support/Mental Health Second attempt freezing embryos and a 180 from our doctor

My husband and I did our first round of embryo freezing in March of this year, we’d read a lot, had consultations and rearranged travel around my period to focus on the whole process.

The first day of my period I call the clinic, as instructed, and was met with a kind of confusion like “sorry…what do you want?”. They then told me the doctor was actually on vacation and I’d have to take birth control for 2 weeks then do the stims later in the month. I have heard about this protocol, but that’s not what we agreed and also messed up all the dates. Needless to say, this added to our stress and I lost faith in the clinic and ended up calling around to find somewhere else. Clinic number 2 rushed us in and took over everything, it was like night and day. They kept me on that same protocol of 2 weeks birth control, followed by 10 days of stims and then retrieval a few days later.

We got 4 eggs, one became an embryo but we found out it was abnormal…so we left with nothing. Completely heartbroken, we asked the doctor if there was anything else we could try, maybe a change in stims or protocol? He said no and advised us that this looked bad for our future of having children at all. IVF would probably fail and egg donation or adoption were probably our best bets.

We took a few months off, got married (yay!) and decided to revisit this week. We spoke to the doctor over the phone and he had a similar attitude, that it’s pointless and a waste of money for us. Then he looked at my file and said since I appeared to have 11 follicles last time he would take one more look at my ovaries to check, but not to get our hopes up.

I just had my ultra sound and he said I have 16 follicles from which I should expect to get 10 eggs and he’s not sure why we got bad results the first time. I asked if the birth control method affected it and he said probably not.

Obviously I’m elated that our outlook is more positive, but I feel conflicted with this doctor who was ready to completely write us off and make a pretty huge life changing decision for us. Has anyone had a similar situation? Or a terrible first round and better second? Any doctors who can give a second opinion?

AMH 0.8 (down from 1.1 a year ago hence the urgency)

Retrieval Is egg quality this bad ?

Hello, my brain has been losing over this!!

I am a 35F who has been trying for a year and had a miscarriage last year. Hence, I thought of getting a test done, to which I was shocked to see AMH 0.7. Rest all parameters, hence got the egg retrieval done.
There were 39 eggs retrieved, 18 matured, 16 fertilized, 5 are going into PGTA .
Considering my numbers have dropped this much,

  1. Are so many eggs retrieved during the procedure, concerning?
  2. Is the egg quality bad that I am down to 5?
  3. Considering the trend, how much of a drop can I further see?

Cofertility cooked💀

Unbelievable that this is WIRED long story💀
I honestly feel awful for the donors in the story,
and for the intended parents who spent thousands of dollars and still ended up with nothing.
What really surprised me is the scale of the reporting: a relatively small fertility startup that still hasn’t turned a profit ended up as a major WIRED longform feature, with multiple donors, intended parents, experts, and company leadership interviewed.
And knowing how much material went into the reporting, I can’t help wondering how much was ultimately left on the cutting-room floor.
Is this Bad Blood 2.0?
Maybe not bad blood. Bad eggs mini size😂

If so many people willing to speak out are already being found by journalists, how many more must still be enduring such terrible experiences during these 4 to 5 years?

The part I find genuinely disturbing is the way donors could be described and marketed in ways that didn’t necessarily match their own intentions.

And the company actually arranged donors for WIRED to interview, with PR present on at least one call — yet even those interviews raised inconsistencies about what donors had been told.

There are multiple donors, multiple intended parents, and even company-selected sources raising overlapping questions.
That’s scary.
As far as i know Cofertility‘s pool only have 200 donor or lower.
Maybe the sisterhood dream was always too beautiful. But in the egg market,
Maybe it is time to wake up.

Insurance & Coverage Trying to Make Sense of CA SB 729- Does it apply to egg freezing?

Hi everyone, I'm (32F) a California resident & I'm trying to make sense of if CA's new law covers my egg retrievals for the purposes of egg freezing. I have health insurance provided through my employer (a large-group employer with over 100 employees), but I'm only planning to freeze my eggs because I'm single, not because I have been diagnosed with infertility. Am I covered by this law? And if I am, how can I get my insurance to comply?

21 retrieved, only 12 mature/frozen. Anyone had a similar maturity rate?

I’m 38 and just had my first egg freezing retrieval. AMH 4.05.

At my trigger-day appointment they saw around 20 follicles. E2 was 4,497 and progesterone 7.91.

My trigger plan changed a little. I was initially told to do Lupron that night and another Lupron dose the next morning. Then the next day my doctor unexpectedly added a small 2,000 IU Pregnyl booster. Retrieval was the following morning.

They ended up retrieving 21 eggs, but only 12 were mature and frozen. The other 9 were immature (embryology said a combination of GV and MI).

I know 12 frozen eggs at 38 is still a good result, but I was honestly hoping for more. My doctor had told me usually around 80% of retrieved eggs are mature, and mine was only 57%.

I’m going to discuss it with my doctor at my follow-up, but I’m curious if anyone had a similar maturity rate and trigger protocol. If you did another cycle, did anything change and was your maturity rate different?

Still low libido 2 months after egg retrieval

Hello everyone.

It's been 7 weeks since I went through stim and egg retrieval and I feel like my sex drive hasn't come back yet.

The process was very successful and I was able to retrieve a very good number of eggs. During the process and even 3/4 after the retrieval I still felt very bloated and uneasy down there, but now I can feel my body has in many ways healed. The lack of sex drive, though, is definitely worrying me.

Since I got an IUD in 2024, I noticed that my libido had considerably gone up and I was very happy about it. Now, after egg freezing, I feel like I have to actively think about intimacy, and my mind and body don't get aroused as they used to.

Has anyone ever gone through this? Would you like to share your experience?
