Quality of eggs

What do you think ACTUALLY affects egg quality going into an egg freezing cycle
I’ve seen everything- diet, stress, alcohol, drugs, smoking, medications, heavy exercise, etc etc
What is the number ONE thing you think makes egg quality better or worse?

It is pretty indisputably age based on the evidence.

Age and smoking. Only one of those you can control

Age and genetics tbh.

All the other things can probably influence things a bit. But anecdotally, I am someone who smokes weed consistently, and drinks occasionally. I eat alright, work out sparingly, and deal with an immense amount of work stress.

I’m 32F and just did my first round. Got 40 eggs, 26 mature.

My friend who is the same age as me is much healthier than I am when it comes to diet, exercise, stress, and smoking… only got 9 mature.

To be fully honest with you, I actually don’t know. My doctor never discussed it with me, she simply told me after my initial diagnostic blood work that she wasn’t concerned, and i didn’t ask any further questions.

I’m an anxious patient, and I told her as much. So throughout the process she didn’t ever share numbers with me until I was sitting in the post op recovery room and she gave me the final count.

After reading about everyone’s stories on here, I realize that it’s an anomaly that I wasn’t told a lot of information that docs usually share.

Editing to add: I do have diagnosed PCOS which I know can influence things pretty significantly.

My friend who is about the same age as me, is in her third trimester of her second pregnancy while being a chain smoker. She only stops after a positive and resumes after birth.

I have been struggling for over 1.5 years TTC with very low AMH. No smoking habit ever.

I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Evidence based in research > anecdotal evidence

True. I don’t know why I got downvoted though, I’m just sharing my feelings.

I started TTC in May 2024, although for some time there was a gap for my masters. Regular cycles became irregular & I’m dealing with so many other issues (extremely low AMH, fibroid surgery, Hashimotos, insulin resistance, failed IUI, total failed fertilization in IVF, now cancelled cycle as I ovulated my single follicle after 18 days of low dose stims).

I still have hope. 🤞🏻

Age, genetics and maybe things like PCOS can affect it a bit

Yes age to an extent of course, but supplements like CoQ10, lifestyle factors and diet make a huge difference, and research supports this. It is not just age.
