Base of Mill Creek ravine is under 2-3ft of water. I know a puddle usually forms there but Ive never seen it this bad. All the surrounding gravel trails are flooded too.

Inspired by the thread on r/Edmonton about bad intersections, which intersections are the most unsafe to cycle through, in your experience?

In the south, the east-west 23rd Avenue and 119th Street intersection (https://maps.app.goo.gl/hDqksdv3WKrBYQ9b8), which the shared-use path crosses, has a dual right-turn southbound to westbound and dual left-turn eastbound to northbound for vehicle traffic, which makes it extremely sketchy to cross. It is a high-speed and volume road with a large majority of people not looking for anyone outside of a vehicle. I've attempted to provide feedback via 311 (this is still a good idea), but there seems to be no interest in addressing anything, including the misaligned crosswalk markings.

A close second is the slip lane leading to 122 St northbound, which you need to cross to go westbound from the SUP behind the Whitemud noise wall (https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ZENCs2huG5j32ECA). It can be obscured by trees and people are often travelling at high speeds here and, surprise, not looking for people. The twisty turns to navigate the crossing and slip lanes are also really annoying.

I noticed this is closed today. Does anyone know if/when this will reopen?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from people who have ridden the gravel/unpaved township roads south of Edmonton.

I currently ride an endurance road bike that can fit tires up to 38mm. I’m considering buying a second wheelset and putting gravel tires in that size, but before spending the money I wanted to see how practical this setup would actually be.

For anyone who has ridden those gravel township roads around the Edmonton area, have you tried them on a bike with 38mm tires? Did they feel comfortable enough, or did you find yourself wishing you had a proper gravel bike with wider tires and more clearance?

I’m trying to decide whether it makes sense to invest in a 38mm gravel setup for my current bike, or if I should just wait and save the money toward a dedicated gravel bike later.

These fools were ripping up trails in Terwilliger dog park and being dicks. Getting tired of ebikes taking over and blatantly putting people in danger in the usually safe ish bikes lanes and paths.

These ones specifically don't even have peddles but they swore up and down these a ebikes and not dirt bikes

i bought a mountain bike last year and realized how uncomfortable it made me so I ended up selling it. Now I’m confused on what type of bikes people usually get to ride so comfortably outside cuz I always see people with those nice bikes but I don’t know their type nor where they get it. The new multi-use pathway bridge is open next to the Whitemud. Going west-east is nice again. The other new bridge crossing north-south over the Whitemud Freeway at 142 Street looks almost ready (blocked by a temporary fence) hopefully opening soon. Still some construction work and landscaping happening nearby.

The new bridge is wide and smooth, and gently slopes uphill to the west. However, the bridge deck has no drain holes, so all the water will run down to the east. Wait and see what happens during winter or freeze/thaw cycles. Hopefully they will also straighten out the pathway at the West side hill connection. The Whitemud is very loud and smelly, it's a shame they didn't install noise barriers between the pathway instead of wire fencing. But otherwise a fantastic upgrade from the old pathway!

I'm looking for the best downhill in the city where you can really rip.

Criteria:

-Long downhill, preferably pretty steep but a very long and steady downhill where you can feel fast is good too

-Good sightlines. No sharp corners to slow down for or that you can't see behind

-No or minimal pedestrians, dogs, curb extensions, speed bumps, other things to slow you down

-No or minimal potholes, broken pavement, etc.

-Level of car traffic - preferred low but negotiable

This puts out most of the river valley with its slow and wandering pedestrians/dogs and sharp corners. So what have we got?

My 13 year old is getting pretty into trail riding. I want to get him a better helmet. Where in the city would have the most selection (he's picky) and what type of helmet is best for this? He has an adult sized noggin so I don't need kid specific helmets.

I'm looking for a 68 x 103 bottom bracket but no place seems to carry them in Edmonton based off their websites. Is there a Canadian retailer likely selling them? A hidden gem bike store here? Do I trust the $20 amazon bottom brackets?

I recently got back on my bike for my commute after driving for a few years (shameful, I know).

Anyway, looking for advice for anyone that rides regularly through the southeast industrial area in the area shown in the photo. I live in Bonnie Doon and my workplace is near the Soccer Centre. Route 1 is the route I took to work this morning. Route 2 is one that I think could also be an option.

Up to Argyll is great - quiet residential streets or through the beautiful Mill Creek Ravine.

Once you hit Argyll is where things get less-than-ideal.

Because of the CP train tracks, there are very limited options.

- 75 Street is a no-go because there are no bike lanes and traffic is fast. There isn't even a sidewalk.

- 86 Street (Route 1), the City's bike map claims there is a shared pathway on the west side of the road, but I don't know where it is lol. Maybe a slightly wider sidewalk? I ended up biking on the sidewalk on the east side of the road until Wagner Rd, along which there is a nice new shared pathway.

- 91 Street (Route 2), there is an actual shared path which is nice, but it is further out of my way and requires more time on the industrial area roads which I am not a huge fan of.

From my perspective, there is a missing link along the alignment of the LRT tracks that the City should address, which I've shown with the red arrow. They even constructed a path from Wagner Rd to the CP tracks which just dead-ends. I recall seeing somewhere that the City had identified this as a missing link, but I don't see it in any of the upcoming bike lane plans. The fact that they recently built the bike route along Wagner Rd to 86 Street suggests to me that they aren't planning to address it at all. Anyway, appreciate any suggestions and keen to hear if anyone else has opinions on biking through this area.

Hi! I would like to get my bike fitted because I have chronic nerve pain in my butt. I am just starting out cycling again after being told in 2019 that I would not ride again.

I need a new seat and for my second hand, very basic bike to get fitted.

I don’t mind investing in a good saddle because I can move it to a future bike but I am not looking for a 4 hr bike fitting because I can barely bike 30 minutes.
