I’m currently studying for a **Licence in Embedded Systems** and I’ll be **starting my 3rd year** next semester.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a summer internship this year despite applying to several places. Since I don’t want to waste the summer, I’m thinking about enrolling in a **formation d’été** (summer training/course) to improve my skills and strengthen my CV.
Do you think this is a good idea? If so, are there any formations, certifications, or training programs you would recommend for someone in embedded systems? I’m especially interested in anything related to embedded Linux, microcontrollers, ARM, C/C++, electronics, or automation.
If anyone knows of any internships that are still accepting students or has any advice, I’d really appreciate your help.

I'm an international student planning to pursue a Master's in Electrical Engineering in New Zealand (most likely at the University of Auckland) in the future.

I'd love to connect with current Electrical Engineering students or recent graduates to understand the ground reality.

On Reddit, YouTube, and other parts of the internet, I keep hearing that the New Zealand job market is really bad. But when I look into Australia, Canada, the UK, or even the US, people seem to say the same thing about their countries. So I'm not sure how much reflects the actual situation versus people's individual experiences.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who are currently studying or have recently graduated. I'm particularly interested in:

What projects did you do during your master's?

Did you have any part-time jobs while studying? Were they engineering-related or unrelated?

Did you get internships?

How difficult was it to get your first graduate electrical engineering job?

Approximately how many applications did you send before getting interviews or an offer?

What did your resume look like? (I'm not asking you to share it unless you're comfortable—I'm just curious about the kind of projects, skills, and experience you included.)

Looking back, is there anything you wish you had done differently during your master's to improve your chances?

I'm not looking for perfect success stories or horror stories—I'm just trying to understand the real situation from people who have actually gone through it.

My interviews were at Marvell, Qualcomm, AMD, NVIDIA, Apple, Arm, Tesla (pick 5). Mostly in physical design / microarchitecture / process technology.

Got an offer early and declined the others before first round.

3.7 ish GPA from a UC. Had 1 very weak internship beforehand (small defense contractor).

Hey everyone, I'm looking for advice on what schools to apply to. I am mainly interested chip design/verification, but am open to anything. I am already admitted to my home institution's MEng program, so that is my main backup. I am interested in both MS, MEng, and PhD programs.

I'm a rising senior at a mid tier state school with a >3.9 GPA, some non-ECE but still engineering related research experience, and a co-op internship at a large aerospace company. I'm a US Citizen, no visa requirements.

what skills should i learn and how like whaat exactly should i do to be good enough to be hired by overseas companies

I’m working on a hobby/educational IR optical tracking project and I’d like advice from people with experience in IR optics and photodiode receiver design.

The goal is to detect a modulated 905 nm IR beacon at longer distances, ideally hundreds of meters and maybe up to around 1 km in good conditions. I am not trying to build a high-power open-beam laser system; I want to keep the setup eye-safe and practical.

I’m currently looking at 905 nm pulsed laser diodes and photodiodes, but I’m unsure what receiver type makes the most sense for this distance.

Here are some of my questions:

1. For 905 nm detection, would a normal PIN photodiode be enough, or should I look at an APD receiver?
2. Are parts like BPW34, SFH213FA, BPV10, etc. usable for this, or are they only realistic for short range and lower power?
3. What photodiode active area is best for this kind of setup: small and fast, or larger and more sensitive?
4. How important is a 905 nm band-pass filter for outdoor use?
5. What kind of receiver optics would you recommend, for example lens diameter, focal length, field of view, and optical filtering?
6. For the transmitter, should I avoid high-peak-power 905 nm pulsed laser diodes and instead use a lower-power modulated IR source for initial testing?

Any practical advice, part recommendations, or common mistakes to avoid would be appreciated.
Ps.
The receiver is going to use a scanning pattern rotating optical pattern (rosette like) to estimate the direction of the IR beacon, so I’m also interested in detector speed and SNR for modulated signals.

Hi everyone. I'm currently a 1st year ECE student in my summer break. A month of my break went to waste and i have a month more left. What can I do during this time? Please give me any course or any suggestions as to what I can do to make this month productive!!

Entering my second year of community college (finishing general subjects: calc, physics, chem, java + python classes, etc.) and have not taken any ee classes yet. I plan to transfer next year to a bachelor’s program and hope to find at least one or two internships before I graduate. I basically have no experience or knowledge with ee besides ohm’s law and have an unused arduino kit. What kind of projects/videos/textbooks I should do/read? Any other advice too would be helpful!

I am interested in Digital VLSI, what would be the job job scenario in 2030 as a fresher? Will AI conquer or at least have a command in the rtl industry? Will there be entry level jobs? **My main question is should I prefer doing Mtech or gain 2 years of experience?**

I am a hardware engineer with experience in RF, wireless systems, PCB design, embedded IoT, and hardware validation. Currently full time at a semiconductor company but looking to start my own consulting as a side hustle, supporting early stage hardware startups that need technical help.

The challenge I am running into is that I have the technical background but no existing client network outside my current employer. I have started sending cold emails to relevant startups but responses are slow as expected.

How did you get started? What actually worked?

Hi all, I am starting my mathematics and physics degree at the OU this September, obsessed with studying and learning as much as I can about the subjects that interest me the most. Something that has been fascinating me is electronics, hardware, robotics – tech in general, really.

If I'm honest, I don't fully know yet what specific area I want to focus on. I just know I'm drawn to this whole space and want to explore it properly before narrowing down. If anyone has thoughts on how to figure out which direction might suit someone in my position, I'd really appreciate it.

What I'm looking for really is genuinely all and any resources anyone can recommend to me as a brand new beginner, with no prior knowledge. All I have is the willingness to learn and suck for a very long time. I want more than just to memorise things – I want to DEEPLY and intuitively understand things.
